Even though He promised to work all things together for good, sometimes it can seem as if that’s never going to happen. In God’s Mysterious Ways, Gary Inrig examines the Old Testament story of Joseph, one of the most insightful examples of divine care. Seeing the twists and turns of Joseph’s life intertwined with the sovereignty of God, you’ll understand how God worked not only through the faithfulness of Joseph, but also through the sinfulness of Joseph’s brothers. Speaking to those who see or experience suffering, this book offers a message of grace. It’s a gentle reminder that, no matter what your circumstances seem to tell you, God’s will prevails—His purposes can be trusted and His promises never fail.

Book In Mysterious Ways

Download or read book In Mysterious Ways written by Paul Wilkes and published by Grove Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published to extraordinary acclaim, selected by the Book-of-the-Month Club, and the winner of the Christopher Medal, In Mysterious Ways is widely recognized as one of the best books about Catholicism today -- a modern-day Diary of a Country Priest. Paul Wilkes paints an intimate and affecting portrait of Father Joseph Greer, the pastor of St. Patrick's Church in Natick, Massachusetts, as he struggles with a terminal case of bone marrow cancer. Even as it depicts the pastor's harrowing fight to live, In Mysterious Ways is ultimately an uplifting story of transcendence. As we watch him overcome his own pain, it is impossible not to admire and learn from Father Greer, who is certainly no saint but rather, as Wilkes makes clear, an ordinary person like anyone else. In Mysterious Ways offers a powerful vision of fortitude, leadership, and the limitless capabilities of a strong human spirit.

Book excerpt: To know that God wisely governs all His creatures and all their actions is one thing, but to apply this truth in our own lives is quite a different matter, especially when our hopes are disappointed and providence seems to frown. With great insight and pastoral wisdom, David Kingdon helps us to apply lessons from the life of Joseph to our own lives. He shows that God's people are not lost in a meaningless maze, but are safe in the hands of a loving Father. However 'mysterious' His ways seem at present, He has purposed good for His people, and will 'make it plain' in His own time. Even when we feel most at a loss about God's dealings with us, He is teaching us lessons which could be learned in no other way. 'Kingdon combines the ability to understand the text of Scripture with the sensitive heart of a pastor well prepared to be our friend and guide in this area of spiritual experience' (from the Foreword by SINCLAIR B. FERGUSON).

Book The Archaeology History and Heritage of WWII Karst Defenses in the Pacific

Download or read book The Archaeology History and Heritage of WWII Karst Defenses in the Pacific written by Julie Mushynsky and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-12 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an archaeological study of the cultures of conflict through an examination of caves and tunnels used during the Pacific War. Referred to here as “karst defenses,” WWII caves and tunnels can be found throughout the karst landscapes of the Pacific. Karst defenses have been hidden, literally by the jungle and figuratively by history, for over 70 years. Based on a study of karst defenses and their related artifacts and oral histories in Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, this book uses karst defenses to investigate the varied human experiences before, during and after the Pacific War. Historically, the book reveals new knowledge about the overall defense strategies used in the Pacific. Karst defenses were a central component of Pacific War defense and were constructed and used by civilians, the Japanese military and U.S. troops as early as 1942. Karst defenses also functioned as command posts, hospitals, shelters, storage units and combat positions. The book sheds light on the social aspects that influenced the construction and use of karst defenses, including the fragmented relationship between the Imperial Japanese Navy and the Imperial Japanese Army, the social status of civilians under Japanese rule and the clandestine plans of the U.S. in Micronesia. The book also discusses the complex contemporary meanings of this dark, shared heritage.
