Book Dictionary

Download or read book Dictionary written by Claus Peter Zoller and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-08-22 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1 of A Grammar and Dictionary of Indus Kohistani contains around 8.000 lemmata, many of which are supplemented with parallels from adjacent dialects, from other Dardic, from Nuristani, Indo-Aryan, Iranian, Dravidian and Munda languages, and from Burushaski. The lemmata have been, wherever possible, provided with information about their origin, and they are connected by numerous cross-references. Since Indus Kohistani is a pitch accent language with complicated rules governing the behaviour of the two pitch accents in compounding, derivation, and inflexion, the lemmata are not only marked with their appropriate pitch accents, but the behaviour of the accents (change of value, shift) is illustrated with a large number of inflected forms and cross-references. And since Indus Kohistani has a rich (and frequently irregular) inner and outer conjugation, most verbs are provided with many finite and participle forms. In addition, the dictionary contains two indexes (English - Indus Kohistani and Old Indo-Aryan - Indus Kohistani), and lists with place and clan names, names of the months, etc.

Book A Year in Himachal

Download or read book A Year in Himachal written by Humera Ahmed and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2016-07-05 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Year in Himachal is a record of the life and culture of an incredible state, set against a varied landscape of splendid mountains, cold deserts, sylvan valleys and gushing rivers. Told from the perspective of a single woman and officer, a rigid city-bound Mumbaikar, the book is a memoir-travelogue that reflects on the life and people, their history and culture, the terrain during different seasons of the year and her attempt to integrate the functioning of the Post Office with community and customer needs in a multilingual and multicultural society. She goes through life-changing experiences during her journey to remote areas in Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti. She experiences the barren silence of the cold desert, the overpowering grandeur and mystery of the snow-capped mountains and the peace and tranquillity of the Tabo monastery. She becomes acutely aware of a spiritual presence that enables her to come to terms with her personal grief and find a purpose in life.

Download or read book The Indo Aryan Languages written by Colin P. Masica and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1993-09-09 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his ambitious survey of the Indo-Aryan languages, Colin Masica has provided a fundamental introduction which will interest not only general and theoretical linguists but also students of one or more of these languages who want to acquaint themselves with the broader linguistic context. Generally synchronic in approach, concentrating on the phonology, morphology and syntax of the modern representatives of the group, the volume also covers their historical development, areal context, writing systems and aspects of sociolinguistics. The survey is organised not on a language-by-language basis but by topic, so that salient theoretical issues may be discussed in a comparative context.
