Download or read book Highly Polarized Electron Emission from Strain Compensated Superlattices and Superlattices with High Valence Band Splitting written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of experimental and theoretical studies of polarized electron emission from new short-period strain-compensated InAlGaAs-GaAsP superlattices and InAlGaAs-AlGaAs superlattices with a high-valence-band splitting are presented. The superlattice structures investigated are found to be very promising for spin-polarized electron sources.

Book Strain Compensated A1InGaAs GaAsP Superlattices for Highly Polarized Electron Emission

Download or read book Strain Compensated A1InGaAs GaAsP Superlattices for Highly Polarized Electron Emission written by J. Clendenin and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spin-polarized electron emission from the first superlattice photocathodes developed with strain compensation is investigated. An opposite strain in the quantum well and barrier layers is accomplished using an InAlGaAs/GaAsP superlattice structure. The measured values of maximum polarization and quantum yield for the structure with a 0.18 {micro}m-thick working layer are close to the best results reported for any strained superlattice photocathode structure, demonstrating the high potential of strain compensation for future photocathode applications. An analysis of the photoemission spectra is used to estimate the parameters responsible for the polarization losses.

Book Resonance Enhancement of Spin Polarized Electron Emission from Strain Compensated AlInGaAs GaAsP Superlattices

Download or read book Resonance Enhancement of Spin Polarized Electron Emission from Strain Compensated AlInGaAs GaAsP Superlattices written by J. S. Roberts and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resonance enhancement of the quantum efficiency of new polarized electron photocathodes based on a short-period strain-compensated AlInGaAs/GaAsP superlattice structure is reported. The superlattice is a part of an integrated Fabry-Perot optical cavity. We demonstrate that the Fabry-Perot resonator enhances the quantum efficiency by up to a factor 10 in the wavelength region of the main polarization maximum. The high structural quality implied by these results points to the very promising application of these photocathodes for spin-polarized electron sources.

Book Improved Superlattices for Spin Polarized Electron Sources

Download or read book Improved Superlattices for Spin Polarized Electron Sources written by V. M. Ustinov and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photoemission of polarized electrons from heterostructures based on InAlGaAs/GaAs superlattices with minimum conduction-band offsets is investigated. The comparison of the excitation energy dependence of the photoemission polarization degree with the calculated spectra makes it possible to determine the polarization losses at different stages of the photoemission. A maximum polarization of P = 91% and a quantum efficiency of QE = 0.5% are close to the best results obtained for photocathodes that are based on strained semiconductor superlattices.

Book Electron Optical Orientation in Strained Superlattices

Download or read book Electron Optical Orientation in Strained Superlattices written by A. D. Andreev and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optical spin orientation in the strained short-period semiconductor superlattices is investigated theoretically using 8-band effective mass Hamiltonian. We demonstrate that the strong features in the spin-polarization dependence on the electron energy are associated with Van-Hove singularizes in absorption spectra and can be observed both for large and small barriers for the electrons. Calculated polarization spectra are close to the experimental spectra of polarized electron emission.

Book Spin orbit Coupling Effects in Two Dimensional Electron and Hole Systems

Download or read book Spin orbit Coupling Effects in Two Dimensional Electron and Hole Systems written by Roland Winkler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-10-10 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first part provides a general introduction to the electronic structure of quasi-two-dimensional systems with a particular focus on group-theoretical methods. The main part of the monograph is devoted to spin-orbit coupling phenomena at zero and nonzero magnetic fields. Throughout the book, the main focus is on a thorough discussion of the physical ideas and a detailed interpretation of the results. Accurate numerical calculations are complemented by simple and transparent analytical models that capture the important physics.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superlattices and Other Heterostructures deals with optical properties of superlattices and quantum-well structures with emphasis on phenomena governed by crystal symmetries. After a brief introduction to group theory and symmetries, methods to calculate spectra of electrons, excitions and phonons in heterostructures are discussed. Further chapters cover absorption and reflection of light under interband transitions, cyclotron and electron spin-resoncance, light scattering by free and bound carriers as well as by optical and acoustic phonons, polarized photoluminescence, optical spin orientation of electrons and excitions, and nonlinear optical and photogalvanic effects.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excellent bridge between general solid-state physics textbook and research articles packed with providing detailed explanations of the electronic, vibrational, transport, and optical properties of semiconductors "The most striking feature of the book is its modern outlook ... provides a wonderful foundation. The most wonderful feature is its efficient style of exposition ... an excellent book." Physics Today "Presents the theoretical derivations carefully and in detail and gives thorough discussions of the experimental results it presents. This makes it an excellent textbook both for learners and for more experienced researchers wishing to check facts. I have enjoyed reading it and strongly recommend it as a text for anyone working with semiconductors ... I know of no better text ... I am sure most semiconductor physicists will find this book useful and I recommend it to them." Contemporary Physics Offers much new material: an extensive appendix about the important and by now well-established, deep center known as the DX center, additional problems and the solutions to over fifty of the problems at the end of the various chapters.
