Download or read book Traceable Temperatures written by J. V. Nicholas and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over one in five thermometers currently in use are out of calibration. This self-teaching text seeks to redress this situation by providing practical guidance on temperature measurement and calibration. Focusing upon recognised measurement procedures and international standards, the authors detail the operating and measurement principles for the four most common thermometers: platinum resistance, liquid-in-glass, thermocouples, and radiation thermometers. Features include the latest temperature information including ITS-90 reference tables for thermocouples and platinum resistance thermometers; detailed coverage of traceability; how to make traceable measurements and how to design, carry-out and report calibrations; identification of the main contributing uncertainties for a range of thermometers; extensive advice on accuracy, with sections devoted to the recognition and treatment of errors; technical information to complement the managerial guidelines of the ISO 9000 series QA systems. The systematic approach will assist those seeking accreditation along the lines of ISO Guide 25; and illustrative examples, detailed references and a full bibliography.

Download or read book High Temperature Measurements of Materials written by Hiroyuki Fukuyama and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-28 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A variety of industries – information technology, aerospace, automobile, and basic and new materials manufacturing – need technological innovations, which bring high-value-added and high-quality products at low cost not only because of global competition, but also because of the perspective of en- ronmental consciousness and regulation. Thermophysical properties of hi- temperature melts are indispensable for numerical simulations of material processes such as semiconductor and optical crystal growth of the melt, and castingofsuper-high-temperaturealloysforjet-engineturbineblades,inad- tion to welding in automobile manufacturing. Recent developments in process modeling provide 3D unsteady analysis of melt convection, temperature, and heat ?ux distribution, which enables us to predict product quality. In fact, 3D process visualization using computer modeling helps us to understand complicated phenomena occurring in the melt and to control the process. Accurate data are necessary to improve the modeling, which co- e?ectively engenders high-quality products. However, crucial obstacles render measurements of thermophysical properties di?cult at elevated temperatures because of high chemical reactivity and ?uidity of melts. Substantial and persistent challenges have been made to ascertain the precise thermophysical properties of high-temperature melts. This book describes the new techniques and latest developments in the measurements of atomic structure, density, surface tension, viscosity, heat capacity, thermal and mass di?usivity, th- mal conductivity, emissivity, and electrical conductivity of high-temperature melts. In addition to up-to-date improvements in conventional techniques, some new attempts are introduced to open a new scienti?c ?eld, that is, physics of high-temperature melts.

Download or read book Modified Phycoerythrin from Porphyridium Cruentum Treated with P chloro mercuribenzoate written by Eiji Fujimori and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phycoerythrin, pigment-protein complex in photosynthetic organisms, plays a role in photosynthesis in transferring an energy abosrbed by itself to chlorophyll. Previous studies in this laboratory showed that the longest absorption band at 565 millimicrons responsible for fluorescence originates from the interaction between the pigment and SH-group of the protein in phycoerythrin. During the course of investigation on the effect of SH-blocking agent on energy transfer, it was found that modified phycoerythrin is released from cells treated with PCMB. This modified phycoerythrin possesses a single absorption band at 545 millimicrons, while native phycoerythrin shows three absorption bands at 500, 545, and 565 millimicrons. In the glutathione-treated modified phycoerythrin, the highly fluorescent 565 millimicrons chromophore was partially regenerated. This investigation indicates that native phycoerythrin is composed of two units and that modified phycoerythrin is one of them separated from the other containing the 500 millimicrons chromophore only. This book was released on 1965 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of a microwave impedance method for measuring electron density and effective electron collision frequency in a plasma column is reviewed. It is evident from laboratory observations that surface polarization effects may be present in the impedance method. Such a consideration alters the form of the usual expression for the complex dielectric constant of an ionized gas. (Author).
