Download or read book The Photomultiplier Handbook written by A. G. Wright and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Photomultipliers are extremely sensitive light detectors with the capability to detect single photons. In multiplying the charge produced by incident light by up to 100 million times, these devices are essential to a wide range of applications, from medical instrumentation to astronomical observations. This complete and authoritative guide will provide...a deeper understanding of the operating principles of these devices." -- Publisher's description, back cover.

Download or read book Absolute Age Determination written by Mebus A. Geyh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the growing recognition during the last two centuries that the Earth has an immense age and processes over long periods of time have changed the morphology and composition of the Earth's crust, geologists have become increasingly interested in determination of absolute ages. A rela tive geochronology was established on the basis of the lithostratigraphic and biostratigraphic principles developed during the last century. With the discovery of radioactivity, the basis for a new geoscientific discipline - geochronology - was established (Rutherford 1906). It is the study of geological time, based mainly on the time signatures provided by the isotopic composition in geologic materials. The isotopic signature in a rock yields more information than that provided by the geochemical signature alone because it reflects the origin and history of the element in the rock. The aim of geochronology is to calibrate and standardize chronostrati graphic scales, to develop geological time scales that have a sensitive or at least useful resolution in order to place the geological events in the correct chronological order, and to assign their proper time spans. In practice, the application of geochronology is much wider because the data in the "natural archives" often provide information on the origin, genesis, and history of the materials. This, of course, requires an understanding of the geochemical behavior of the substances involved.

Download or read book Millimicrosecond Pulse Techniques written by I. A. D. Lewis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millimicrosecond Pulse Techniques, Second Edition focuses on millimicrosecond pulse techniques and the development of devices of large bandwidth, extending down to comparatively low frequencies (1 Mc/s). Emphasis is on basic circuit elements and pieces of equipment of universal application. Specific applications, mostly in the field of nuclear physics instrumentation, are considered. This book consists of eight chapters and opens with an introduction to some of the terminology employed by circuit engineers as well as theoretical concepts, including the laws of circuit analysis, Fourier analysis of pulse waveforms, and Laplace transforms. The next chapter is devoted to the theory of transmission lines and covers uniform rectilinear lines, helical lines, and lumped delay lines, along with some applications of transmission-line principles. Subsequent chapters explore transformers, pulse generators, amplifiers, and cathode ray oscilloscopes. Examples of applications of millimicrosecond pulse techniques in nuclear physics and other miscellaneous areas such as radar propagation measurements and high-speed photography are also presented. This monograph will be of interest to physicists and electronics engineers.
