Book High Performance S band Horn Antennas for Radiometer Use

Download or read book High Performance S band Horn Antennas for Radiometer Use written by and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Horn antennas of four types: pyramidal corrugated, conical corrugated, pyramidal dual mode and conical dual mode, have been constructed and evaluated for use as S-band radiometer antennas. Each of the structures is described and radiation patterns and impedance and resistive loss measurements including a layer of foreign material on a thin radome, are presented. A precision method for determining reflection losses is described using a multiprobe reflectometer technique. The same technique is also applied to the measurement of resistive losses by closing the ends of the antennas with short circuit plates and determining the losses from an accurate measurement of the reflection coefficient. The radiation patterns were recorded with the aid of a real-time digital computer. The stored patterns were then processed to yield gain and beam efficiency. It was concluded that it is possible to design a highly efficient antenna for radiometer use and to measure its parameters precisely. However, it was found that it is necessary to modify the conventional definition of beamwidth somewhat if this term is to be meaningful for radiometer applications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ideal text for a one-semester course in radio astronomy Essential Radio Astronomy is the only textbook on the subject specifically designed for a one-semester introductory course for advanced undergraduates or graduate students in astronomy and astrophysics. It starts from first principles in order to fill gaps in students' backgrounds, make teaching easier for professors who are not expert radio astronomers, and provide a useful reference to the essential equations used by practitioners. This unique textbook reflects the fact that students of multiwavelength astronomy typically can afford to spend only one semester studying the observational techniques particular to each wavelength band. Essential Radio Astronomy presents only the most crucial concepts—succinctly and accessibly. It covers the general principles behind radio telescopes, receivers, and digital backends without getting bogged down in engineering details. Emphasizing the physical processes in radio sources, the book's approach is shaped by the view that radio astrophysics owes more to thermodynamics than electromagnetism. Proven in the classroom and generously illustrated throughout, Essential Radio Astronomy is an invaluable resource for students and researchers alike. The only textbook specifically designed for a one-semester course in radio astronomy Starts from first principles Makes teaching easier for astronomy professors who are not expert radio astronomers Emphasizes the physical processes in radio sources Covers the principles behind radio telescopes and receivers Provides the essential equations and fundamental constants used by practitioners Supplementary website includes lecture notes, problem sets, exams, and links to interactive demonstrations An online illustration package is available to professors

Book A Parametric Study of Cut off Corrugated Surface Properties

Download or read book A Parametric Study of Cut off Corrugated Surface Properties written by C. A. Mentzer and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrugated horns involve a junction between the corrugated surface and a conducting groundplane. Proper horn design requires an understanding of the electromagnetic properties of the corrugated surface and this junction. Therefore, an integral equation solution has been used to study the influence of corrugation density and shape on the power loss. Surface current, and the scattering from a groundplane-corrugated surface junction. Both square and vee shape corrugations have been considered over the range of corrugation depths where the surface acts as a cut-off corrugated surface.

Book Large Antennas of the Deep Space Network

Download or read book Large Antennas of the Deep Space Network written by William A. Imbriale and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-02-04 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important historical look at the space program's evolvingtelecommunications systems Large Antennas of the Deep Space Network traces the development ofthe antennas of NASA's Deep Space Network (DSN) from the network'sinception in 1958 to the present. It details the evolution of thelarge parabolic dish antennas, from the initial 26-m operation atL-band (960 MHz) through the current Ka-band (32 GHz) systems.Primarily used for telecommunications, these antennas also supportradar and radio astronomy observations in the exploration of thesolar system and the universe. In addition, the author also offersthorough treatment of the analytical and measurement techniquesused in design and performance assessment. Large Antennas of the Deep Space Network represents a vitaladdition to the literature in that it includes NASA-funded researchthat significantly impacts on deep space telecommunications. Partof the prestigious JPL Deep Space Communications and NavigationSeries, it captures fundamental principles and practices developedduring decades of deep space exploration, providing informationthat will enable antenna professionals to replicate radiofrequencies and optics designs. Designed as an introduction for students in the field as well as areference for advanced practitioners, the text assumes a basicfamiliarity with engineering and mathematical concepts andtechnical terms. The Deep Space Communications and Navigation Series is authored byscientists and engineers with extensive experience in astronautics, communications, and related fields. It lays the foundation forinnovation in the areas of deep space navigation and communicationsby disseminating state-of-the-art knowledge in key technologies.

Book Handbook of Reflector Antennas and Feed Systems Volume III Applications of Reflectors

The intent of this book volume is to provide practical applications and design information on reflector antennas used for several communications systems. This book covers recent developments of reflector antennas used for satellite communications, terrestrial communications, and remote sensing applications. New subjects are introduced for the first time, including satellite antennas, Terahertz antennas, PIM, multipaction, corona, deployable mesh reflector antennas, and mechanical aspects of reflector antennas. In addition, this book contains a separate topic on integrated feed assembly for reflector antennas covering analysis, design, fabrication, and test.
