Download or read book High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes Evaluation II written by Peter T. Martin and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report evaluated the safety and public opinion of HOV lanes assessed by a survey and accident data. Survey results indicate a strong support for HOV lanes. A need for outreach programs to promote the benefits of lanes is discussed. Also, stricter enforcement, construction of direct on-ramps and off-ramps and installation of prominent signs to increase public awareness is recommended.

This book was released on 1992 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This design guide has been developed for the purpose of helping to achieve the following transportation systems management (TSM) goals: To maximize the person-moving capacity of roadway facilities by providing improved operating level of service for high occupancy vehicles (HOVs), both public and private; To conserve fuel and to minimize consumption of other resources needed for transportation; To improve air quality; and To increase overall accessibility while reducing vehicular congestion. Part I deals with HOV options in terms of planning and operations; Part II deals with design criteria for HOV options on freeways; and Part III deals with design criteria for HOV options on surface arterial streets.

Download or read book Preferential Lane Treatments for High occupancy Vehicles written by Charles A. Fuhs and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1993 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to transportation planners, highway engineers, environmental personnel, highway design engineers, transit planners, highway administrators, and others concerned with the planning, design, and operational features of preferential high- occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes on highways. Information is provided on the current and proposed state of the practice in North America. This synthesis describes the state of the art with respect to preferential treatment for HOVs on highways. This report of the Transportation Research Board provides information on long-distance facilities, such as barrier-separated, concurrent-flow (separated and nonseparated), and contraflow facilities, as well as on short-distance facilities, such as queue by-pass lanes. Planning, design, and operational features of each treatment are described. The issues and operating results are described, and specific case studies are included.

Download or read book Urban Street Design Planning written by A. Pratelli and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2013-12-04 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second book of the series on Transport Systems and Traffic Engineering addresses operational, safety, costs, benefits, control and geometrical aspects associated with street design and roadway network planning in urban areas. The design features and planning goals consider urban-sensitive solutions for coping with motorized traffic, pedestrians and public transport passengers. Great emphasis is placed on the critical interactions involved with traffic safety problems. The included papers offer a variety of sample studies and developed projects and provide useful references to academics and traffic engineers. One of the most noteworthy characteristics of this book is that the reported experiences come from different national policies and standard requirements as well as local guidelines. As such it provides a well-structured and consistent book that will be of great interest to those working in this field.
