Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first translation of a previously unknown Aztec codex and its initiatory teachings for 2012 • Discloses the potential for great spiritual awakening offered at the end of the Aztec calendar cycle • Presents the only existing English-language transcription of the Aztec codex, with line-by-line commentary • Contains the epic poetry and metaphysical insights of Beat poet Marty Matz (1934–2001 In 1961 an unknown Aztec codex was revealed to Beat poet and explorer Marty Matz by a Mazatec shaman in the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico. Originally intended for dramatic performance, this codex presents a profound metaphysical teaching describing how the end of time will bring about a visionary ascent. At the behest of his Mazatec teacher, Matz transcribed this pictorial codex into a literary form that would preserve its initiatory teachings and reveal its secret meanings to a wider audience.Pyramid of Fire is an epic poem that provides a vehicle to transport the initiate into the higher realms of consciousness. It represents a barely surviving thread of teachings that have been passed down in secret since the time of the Spanish Conquest. Revealed are the techniques by which man is transported to the stellar realm after death via the solar energy within what the ancients called the “serpent of consciousness.” Line-by-line commentary by Matz and John Major Jenkins provides insights into the perennial philosophy contained in the codex and its relevance to our times.

Download or read book When My Brother Was an Aztec written by Natalie Diaz and published by Copper Canyon Press. This book was released on 2012-12-04 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I write hungry sentences," Natalie Diaz once explained in an interview, "because they want more and more lyricism and imagery to satisfy them." This debut collection is a fast-paced tour of Mojave life and family narrative: A sister fights for or against a brother on meth, and everyone from Antigone, Houdini, Huitzilopochtli, and Jesus is invoked and invited to hash it out. These darkly humorous poems illuminate far corners of the heart, revealing teeth, tails, and more than a few dreams. I watched a lion eat a man like a piece of fruit, peel tendons from fascia like pith from rind, then lick the sweet meat from its hard core of bones. The man had earned this feast and his own deliciousness by ringing a stick against the lion's cage, calling out Here, Kitty Kitty, Meow! With one swipe of a paw much like a catcher's mitt with fangs, the lion pulled the man into the cage, rattling his skeleton against the metal bars. The lion didn't want to do it— He didn't want to eat the man like a piece of fruit and he told the crowd this: I only wanted some goddamn sleep . . . Natalie Diaz was born and raised on the Fort Mojave Indian Reservation in Needles, California. After playing professional basketball for four years in Europe and Asia, Diaz returned to the states to complete her MFA at Old Dominion University. She lives in Surprise, Arizona, and is working to preserve the Mojave language.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Turner Family continue their adventures around the world. The family travels to Mexico and celebrates Cinco de Mayo with close friends and the people of Mexico. Cinco de Mayo means 'The Fifth of May' and is in recognition of the Mexican Constitution. The people celebrate with festivals, carnivals, fireworks, food, dance, music and costume. People from all over the world attend these festivities yearly. The three Turner teens and their friends visit the Aztec ruins and get trapped in the Land of the Aztecs. There is danger everywhere as the teens are in the middle of an impending war between two kingdoms in which two kings are determined to kill each other and take each others people as sacrifices for the altar. The love between a princess and a prince is the only thing that stands in the way of thousands of people being killed and both kingdoms being torn apart. It is their love that can stop blood from being spilled on the altar. Can the 'Teen Archaeologists' help the young lovers unite the kingdoms before the two kings destroy them all? And even if they do, will the gods in the heavens come down to earth and destroy them all? Sample from the book- Back at the palace, the Sorceress Inancu walked onto the balcony to watch the battle of the Aztec warriors. Princess Anacoana rushed over to her. Inancu, Anacoana cried out. The God of War Monchipotl is going to destroy them all. Chantico is out there on the battle ground. He will die unless you help him. Help him. Please!" "Do not fret, princess," Inancu said calmly. "I shall call upon the Goddess of War Tipanza to come forth and destroy Monchipotl. It is the only way he can be defeated. No human can kill a giant. He can only be destroyed by another god." Inancu looked up into the sky. She held her hands up and closed her eyes. She called forth the Goddess of War. Tipanza heard her thoughts and appeared in the sky. She looked down at the battle between the Aztec warriors and her enemy Monchipotl and smiled. The two gods of war hated each other. The Goddess of War Tipanza appeared on earth in the Land of the Azteca, ready to destroy Monchipotl. The God of War Monchipotl smiled and laughed out loud when he saw Tipanza standing before him. The ground shook as the powerful giant spoke. "Tipanza, you have come on behalf of these humans to battle me? Do you actually think that you can defeat me? You are a goddess of war. Yes. You are a warrior. But you are still a mere female. Go back into the heavens or I shall destroy you." "I shall return to the heavens when you are dead, Monchipotl," she replied with confidence. "Very well then, if that's the way you want it. We shall do things the hard way. Now you shall die," he said angrily. The Aztec warriors backed away from the two giants and ran toward the Kingdom of the Tesoshtilandt. King Moctuma invited King Mapich and his four sons and head Aztec warriors inside the palace. When Chantico and Anacoana saw each other they ran and embraced. Queen Neca and Princess Tayanna smiled.

Scott-Elliot) The lost world is a subgenre of the fantasy or science fiction genre that involves the discovery of a new world out of time or place. King Solomon's Mines by H. Rider Haggard is sometimes considered the first lost-world narrative. Haggard's novel shaped the form and influenced later lost-world books, including Kipling's The Man Who Would Be King, Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World, Burroughs' The Land That Time Forgot, A. Merritt's The Moon Pool, and H. P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness. James Hilton's Lost Horizon used the genre as a takeoff for popular philosophy and social comment and it introduced the name Shangri-La, a meme for the idealization of the lost world as a paradise.

Book excerpt: In Writing to Explore, David and Peter demonstrate how to teach adventure writing, which integrates nonfiction and fiction and motivates students to write with imagination, curiosity, and a hunger to learn everything about their topic. The book starts with a solid foundation in the basics of good writing: setting descriptions, writing atmosphere, and character development. The authors then explore the specific elements of adventure writing--from setting the stage to conducting research; from combining history and geography to effectively utilizing technology. The result is an adventure-based paper that is "rooted in real places, supported by facts, and developed with detailed description of images from real locations." Teachers will find handouts, sample activities, student writing examples, research sources, and tips to help them create a nonfiction writing program based around the adventure writing model. Research papers don't have to be boring to read or to write. This book will show you how to get vibrant papers from your students--papers that teach both reader and writer something new.
