Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the last twenty years of her professional life, Beverly Wilkins has been a grief group facilitator, congregational nurse, and visiting nurse. Her occupation as a trained palliative care nurse brought her into intimate contact with many patients going through their final stage of life. She possesses a serenity and ease of the vocabulary around death and dying because of her complete belief that it really is not the end. In fact, it is more like a birthday following a birthday. We are all born to eventually die to another life, “where there are many mansions. I go and prepare a place for you” (John 14:2 NKJV). This book is a collection of real-life scenarios she has been witness to; she wants to give you calm and peace as you transition to the next stage of light, the only stage that all of us will experience: death. May you feel the promise that God will be there to meet you when you arrive in your new home. No need for angst at the end. Go in peace and live joyously and confidently knowing your final destination is already reserved. Happy birthday as you breathe your last breath. Enjoy the whoosh. Bev

Book Gordian Knots Hottentots and Elephant Amputees

Download or read book Gordian Knots Hottentots and Elephant Amputees written by William Ivany and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-04-24 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laughter, satire, wit; the devils been using those for years to put down, brow beat, and control Christians. If you go in anyway against his agenda, you are then ridiculed by mainstream society, by the News Media, by Talk Shows, and by some very talented folk who use their God given talent to mock any and all things holy. Well, two can play at that game! Laughter? Satire? Wit? Check! Check! Check! They're all in here! And who says Christians can't have a sense of humor? Sure, they'll sing in church, pray, recite, testify; even cry, sob, and wail; but laugh? Maybe, but only if everyone else does! Hey, it's okay for Christians to learn and laugh, to laugh and learn. The Holy Spirit, here on this earth, is with us, living in us, and has a great sense of humor. He'll even get us to laugh at ourselves, which is a good thing 'cause some of us take ourselves way too seriously. On that note; got a question for you: Is it better to get mad at yourself, or to laugh at yourself? To get mad and increase stress, or to laugh and relieve it? Hey, we're human, we're gonna do the occasional stupid thing anyway, might as well laugh at it and learn from it! Oh right, THE BOOK! This is supposed to be about the book, OOPS! Yes, I confess, I do tend to wander a little off topic. I could get mad at myself for this repetitive tendency, or I could just laugh at it, learn from it, and get back on track. In this book, I've attempted to use Holy Spirit revelation (yes, the Holy Ghost is my "Ghost Writer;" and I freely admit that!), scripture, and humor to further spread the Gospel (The Good News!) of Jesus Christ. So, just in case the back cover of this book is the only part you ever read, just let me say this, JESUS LOVES YOU. HE'S PAID FOR EVERY SIN YOU'VE EVER COMMITTED, ARE COMMITTING, OR WILL COMMIT IN THE FUTURE. YOUR SIN DEBT HAS BEEN PAID IN FULL. Simple acceptance of that truth, and a belief in him, gets you salvation, redemption, righteousness, and eternal life; all that and more. The Bible in particular, and this book in part, can and will provide further revelation. Hey, if you're a Christian you should already know all that; if you're not or you don't, now you do!

Book excerpt: This breathtaking volume boldly, cheerfully, and blankly stares back across the stunningly mellow life and times of Zonker Harris. From his Californian-American roots to his legendary status as surfer, nanny, and former sun god, his career trajectory has unfailingly carried him ever deeper into the homegrown heart of the American daydream. A puddle-plumbing denizen of Walden Commune, Harris spent his formative years as a bodaciously freaked-out college student. His innovative decoding of the rites and rituals of the burgeoning counterculture put him on the cover of Time. Forced by a strategic oversight to graduate from college, Harris blazed a path to glory on the pro tanning circuit. His triumph in the George Hamilton Cocoa-Butter Open set a high watermark for the sport. Family values led Harris to devote considerable time to helping his stunned parents refill their empty nest. Extended-family values propelled him into a career as a professional nanny, in which capacity he has indeed taught the children well--especially Sam, who was surfing the long board while still in diapers. Later, leveraging his political cluelessness, Zonker served on the disastrous Duke2000 presidential campaign. A devoted foot soldier in the war against AIDS suffering, Zonk is held in high regard among SoCal's medical marijuana community for the efficacious potency of his magic brownies. Unfazed by worldly success, he remains a true and gentle freak. After all, he humbly notes, I am but one dude.

Book excerpt: She signed up for the sisterhood, free cars, and the promise of a successful business of her own. Instead, she ended up with an addiction, broken friendships, and the rubble of a toppled pyramid . . . scheme. HEY, HUN: SALES SISTERHOOD, SUPREMACY, AND THE OTHER LIES BEHIND MULTILEVEL MARKETING is the eye-opening, funny, and dangerous personal story of author Emily Lynn Paulson rising to the top of the pyramid in the multilevel marketing (MLM) world, only to recognize that its culture and business practices went beyond a trendy marketing scheme and into the heart of white supremacy in America. A significant polemic on how MLMs operate, HEY, HUN expertly lays out their role in the cultural epidemic of isolation and the cult-like ideologies that course through their trainings, marketing, and one-on-one interactions. Equally entertaining and smart, Paulson’s first-person accounts, acerbic wit, and biting commentary will leave you with a new perspective on those “Hey Hun” messages flooding your inbox. “This book is a must-read for all women, especially those struggling with the deep ache to belong, be successful, or feel their self-worth. HEY, HUN is at once a cautionary tale, an educational service, and a vulnerable memoir. It’s essential reading for anyone considering joining, trying to escape, or healing from the toxic, culty structure that is MLM.” — Sarah Edmondson, actress, host of A Little Bit Culty podcast, author of Scarred: The True Story of How I Escaped NXIVM, the Cult That Bound My Life “Emily’s experience is so raw, honest, and relatable that HEY, HUN should be required reading for anyone involved with MLM—past, present, or future.” — Roberta Blevins, anti-MLM adovcate, host of the Life After MLM podcast, and star of the LulaRich documentary

Book High Bias

    Book Details:
  • Author : Marc Masters
  • Publisher : UNC Press Books
  • Release : 2023-09-14
  • ISBN : 1469675994
  • Pages : 220 pages

Download or read book High Bias written by Marc Masters and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2023-09-14 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cassette tape was revolutionary. Cheap, portable, and reusable, this small plastic rectangle changed music history. Make your own tapes! Trade them with friends! Tape over the ones you don't like! The cassette tape upended pop culture, creating movements and uniting communities. This entertaining book charts the journey of the cassette from its invention in the early 1960s to its Walkman-led domination in the 1980s to decline at the birth of compact discs to resurgence among independent music makers. Scorned by the record industry for "killing music," the cassette tape rippled through scenes corporations couldn't control. For so many, tapes meant freedom—to create, to invent, to connect. Marc Masters introduces readers to the tape artists who thrive underground; concert tapers who trade bootlegs; mixtape makers who send messages with cassettes; tape hunters who rescue forgotten sounds; and today's labels, which reject streaming and sell music on cassette. Their stories celebrate the cassette tape as dangerous, vital, and radical.
