Book History and Heritage

Download or read book History and Heritage written by Simon Ditchfield and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just what is it that we want from the past? History offers us true stories about the past; heritage sells or provides us with the past we appear to desire. The dividing line between history and heritage is, however, far from clear. This collection of papers addresses the division between history and heritage by looking at the ways in which we make use of the past, the way we consume our yesterdays. Looking at a wide variety of fields, including architectural history, museums, films, novels and politics, the authors examine the ways in which the past is invoked in contemporary culture, and question the politics of drawing upon 'history' in present-day practices. In topics ranging from Braveheart to Princess Diana, the Piltdown Man to the National History Curriculum, war memorials to stately homes, "History and Heritage" explores the presence of the past in our lives, and asks, how, and to what end, are we using the idea of the past. Who is consuming the past and why?

Book Multicultures and Cities

Download or read book Multicultures and Cities written by Gösta Arvastson and published by Museum Tusculanum Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the planning of city development, it is important that different groups should be able to live in peaceful coexistence. This is how the concept 'multicultural' came about. During the 1970s, multiculturalism was developed into a model of political democracy-a strategy for society's rapid change. The term multiculturalism suggests that contemporary urban cultures somehow co-exist in a condition of mutual respect and possible equality. The new multiculturalism seems very different from the migration that took place in the 1960s and 1970s. The essays in this collection address the general themes of ethnicity and contemporary European urbanism in many different ways, examining a wide variety of cities and city pairings. The common bond in these writings is the impact that a contemporary merging of ethnicity and culture is having on the new urbanity that is now widely accepted as driving the new Europe. The effect is far greater than might be predicted from the relative social powerlessness of many of the bearers of these cultures. At the same time, existing urban processes continue to ensure the marginality of these groups.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been much academic interest in the role of museums as places where understanding of the past is shaped and legitimised for a wide and increasingly diverse public. This book focuses on the museum representations of the Highland Clearances - a much neglected aspect of one of the most disputed and politically-charged issues in modern Scottish history. Drawing together a range of inter-disciplinary themes and notions, it considers the cultural legacy of the period, brings to light the socially and historically conditioned meanings and values encapsulated in museum narratives of the Clearances, and shows the significance of collective memory in the negotiations inherent in heritage work. Examining both national and local museums in Scotland and concluding with comparisons with Australian museums of migration, Dynamics of Heritage contributes to our understanding of the processes of heritage construction, and its relationship to issues of memory and other modes of engagement with the past.

Book Building Corporate Identity Image and Reputation in the Digital Era

Download or read book Building Corporate Identity Image and Reputation in the Digital Era written by T C Melewar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-07-29 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brands – corporate, products, service – today are collectively defined by their customers, deriving from personal experiences and word of mouth. This book acts as a forum for examining current and future trends in corporate branding, identity, image and reputation. Recognising the complexity and plurality at the heart of the corporate branding discipline, this book fills a gap in the literature by posing a number of original research questions on the intrinsic nature of corporate branding ideas from corporate (external) and organisation (internal) identity perspectives as they relate to brand management, corporate reputation, marketing communications, social media, smart technology, experiential and sensory marketing. It incorporates current thinking and developments by both multidisciplinary academics and practitioners, combining a comprehensive theoretical foundation with practical insights. The text will serve as an important resource for the marketing, identity and brand practitioners requiring more than anecdotal evidence on the structure and operation of stakeholders communication in different geographical areas. It determines current practices and researches in diverse areas, regions and commercial and non-commercial sectors across the world. The book provides scholars, researchers and postgraduate students in business and marketing with a comprehensive treatment of the nature of relationships between companies, brands and stakeholders in different areas and regions of the world.

Book Sustainable Branding

Download or read book Sustainable Branding written by Pantea Foroudi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-01-28 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sustainable brand should integrate environmental, social, economic and issues into its business operations. Sustainable Branding considers how broader perspectives on sustainability and corporate social responsibility can be applied to the practicalities of brand management. By addressing a range of perspectives and their application to branding, the authors go beyond sustainable branding to question the role brands play in a wider sustainable society. Structured around three core parts – People, Planet and Prosperity - contributions from experts in the field consider the human dimensions of environmental change, identity and reputation, technology and innovation, waste management, public and brand engagement, environmental ecosystems and the circular economy. Combining theoretical insight and empirical research with practical application, each chapter includes real-life international cases and reflective questions to allow discussion, best-practice examples and actionable suggestions on how to implement sustainable branding activities. This book is perfect for academics, postgraduate and final-year undergraduate students in sustainable branding, sustainable business, corporate social responsibility, brand management and communications. It provides a comprehensive treatment of the nature of relationships between environmental, economic, social, companies, brands, and stakeholders in different areas and regions of the world.
