Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current research has shown that the representative democratic process is in jeopardy due to low voter participation. With contention a brew in the Democratic and Republican parties, and with the challenges that COVID-19 presents, winning elections has become a daunting and challenging task. Candidates, elected officials, running for another term, and their campaigns will need all the resources to give them a winning edge. The electoral process relies on informed and motivated voters to turn out and elect our political leaders, how candidates connect with these voters will determine the likelihood of their political future. This study looks at the influence of political campaigns and community activism groups on voter participation and their role in the overall political health in the democratic process. The study identified several flaws in the political approaches toward influencing voter participation. The research further suggests real-world strategies for the groups to become more effective in fostering practical electoral change, thereby increasing voter participation, and improving their ability to influence the elections in their favor positively.

Download or read book History is Bunk written by Jessie Swigger and published by Public History in Historical P. This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of Henry Ford's Greenfield Village. In 1916 Henry Ford proclaimed that "history is more or less bunk"-at least its focus on politicians and military heroes was bunk. Thirteen years later, he sought to correct this error by opening the Greenfield Village museum, which celebrated the history of farmers and inventors. The village eventually included a replica of Thomas Edison's Menlo Park, New Jersey, laboratory, the Wright brothers' cycle shop and home from Dayton, Ohio, and Ford's own Michigan birthplace. Artisan shops, a Cotswold cottage from England, and two brick slave cabins reflected Ford's idiosyncratic worldview.

Download or read book Hey America Your Roots Are Showing written by Megan Smolenyak and published by Kensington Publishing Corp.. This book was released on 2011-10-24 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The acclaimed genealogist and New York Times–bestselling author reveals how she solved some of the most fascinating mysteries of family lineage. Part forensic scientist, part master sleuth, Megan Smolenyak has a unique way of digging up our historical roots. She discovered Barack Obama’s Irish ancestry—and his relation to Brad Pitt. She revealed the true story of Ellis Island’s first immigrant, Annie Moore. And she shed light on a startling link between politicians Al Sharpton and Strom Thurmond. In Hey America, Your Roots Are Showing, the “Indiana Jones of genealogy” reveals how she cracked these and other news-making cases. Along the way, she shares her own story of becoming genealogy’s celebrity face. She even explains why her name is squared (Buzzy Jackson, author of Shaking the Family Tree). Whether she's scouring websites to uncover the surprising connections between famous figures or using cutting-edge DNA tests to locate family members of fallen soldiers dating back to the Civil War, Smolenyak's historical sleuthing is as provocative, richly layered, and exciting as America itself. “Megan is a genealogist's dream, a forensic investigator who can also tell a great story.” —Sam Roberts, The New York Times
