Book Identification and Designation of Heavily Modified and Artificial Water Bodies

Download or read book Identification and Designation of Heavily Modified and Artificial Water Bodies written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document focuses on the identification and designation of artificial and heavily modified water bodies in the broader context of the development of integrated river basin management plans as required by the water framework directive. The purpose of this guidance is to introduce the requirements of the WFD with respect to HMWB and AWB identification and designation and to serve as a practical implementation guide for those who will be actively involved in the implementation of the WFD including the designation of HMWB and AWB. As the WFD does not always define or describe the terms and approaches to be used, and because some parts are ambiguous, this guidance aims to develop a common understanding and interpretation of the WFD for the HMWB and AWB designation process and may, in part, describe pragmatic operational approaches to meet the WFD requirements.

Book Experiences from Ground Coastal and Transitional Water Quality Monitoring

Download or read book Experiences from Ground Coastal and Transitional Water Quality Monitoring written by Antoni Munné and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-23 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book details the experiences gained by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) in a Mediterranean watershed – the Catalan River Basin District – following the launch of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) in the year 2000. Groundwater and coastal water experts present 13 chapters defining tools for water-status assessment specially adapted to Mediterranean conditions. The content of this and the companion volume Experiences from Surface Water Quality Monitoring: The EU Water Framework Directive Implementation in the Catalan River Basin District (Part I) are the result of an excellent collaboration between the ACA and several Catalan universities and research centers to cope with new challenges provided by the WFD monitoring requirements. The volume serves as a useful guide for environmental managers and scientists engaged in other European as well as Non-European river basins.

Book Integrated Water Resources Management in the 21st Century Revisiting the paradigm

Download or read book Integrated Water Resources Management in the 21st Century Revisiting the paradigm written by Pedro Martinez-Santos and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-03-03 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated water resources management advocates a coordinated approach for managing water resources in a way that balances social and economic needs with concern for the environment. While potentially useful, integrated water management is also controversial. Supporters believe that the multi-dimensional nature of water can only be understood and managed from a holistic perspective, while critics often argue that integrated water management lacks suffi ciently well-defi ned rules for its practical implementation. This book, written by academics, users and practitioners, provides a down-to-earth approach to the ideal of integrated water resources management, drawing from conceptual frameworks and real-life practice to identify the key aspects that are yet to be resolved. As such, it examines the role of water accounting, food trade, environmental externalities and intangible values as key aspects whose consideration may help the water management community move forward. Overall, integrated water resources management is perceived to be a useful utopia, whose value lies more in the steps that need to be taken to make it a reality than in achieving its ever-elusive end goal.

Book Wetlands and Water Framework Directive

Download or read book Wetlands and Water Framework Directive written by Stefan Ignar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-14 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book compares the lessons learned from a wetland-perspective approach to the changing climate and the requirements of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) with regard to environmental conservation. Examples from Germany and Poland are discussed due to the efficiency of their respective implementations of water conservation policies. Although the general scientific interest in specific issues such as wetlands, climate change, nature conservation and the WFD enjoy a well established position in international environmental research, these four elements are rarely considered together due to the complexity of the processes, biased scenarios of global change and subjective policy background. Major challenges involved in carrying out environmental conservation actions that assess the potential impacts of climate change and management plans on water bodies are identified. The results of this approach are addressed to practitioners in the field of adaptive management in a wetlands context.

Book Quality of Water Resources in Poland

Download or read book Quality of Water Resources in Poland written by Martina Zeleňáková and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-22 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents state-of-the-art knowledge concerning water quality in Poland. It offers a wide variety of cases and issues on water resource quality management. The book also presents different methods and strategies to effectively use the most advanced water resource quality problems such as water pollution, whether physical, chemical, or biological, of surface water resources and groundwater resources. The authors pay exceptional attention to water quality monitoring in agricultural, urban catchments, and water reservoirs. More light into the water quality is required to assess water's physicochemical status accurately and plan suitable protection actions against recognized threats. This book addresses the needs of professional engineers, researchers, policy planners, decision-makers, stakeholders, and anyone looking to learn more about the quality situation of water resources in Poland and other similar countries and regions.
