Book Heat Transfer Enhancement Techniques With Special Attention to Passive Methods of Heat Transfer Enhancement

Download or read book Heat Transfer Enhancement Techniques With Special Attention to Passive Methods of Heat Transfer Enhancement written by Chakole M.M. and published by Anchor Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2016-06-02 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat exchangers are widely used in the industrial sector, e.g. in the refrigeration, air conditioning, petrochemical, and agricultural food industry. The high cost of energy and material has resulted in an increased effort aimed at producing high performance heat exchanger equipment. Passive methods of heat transfer enhancement do not need external power for enhancement. One of these kinds of passive technique is twisted tape inserts that enhance the performance of heat exchangers. Using multiple twisted tape inserts gives better enhancement than a single twisted tape insert. Using nanofluid gives also better thermal performance than water. Therefore, nanofluid along with twisted tape inserts was used in this study. For this study, different combinations of multiple twisted tape inserts were designed and fabricated. These different combinations contain dual, triple, and quadruple twisted tapes. Directions of twists are also varied which enables to study the effect of different swirl flow generators. Nanofluid is used with various volume concentrations of 0.07%, 0.14% and 0.21% in order to investigate the effect of nanoparticle concentration on heat transfer enhancement. Experimental investigation was carried out by having a constant heat flux condition and by varying the volume flow rate of flow from 2 to 10 lpm.

Book A Review of Heat Transfer Enhancement Methods Using Coiled Wire and Twisted Tape Inserts

Download or read book A Review of Heat Transfer Enhancement Methods Using Coiled Wire and Twisted Tape Inserts written by Orhan Keklikcioglu and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat transfer enhancement is categorized into passive and active methods. Active methods need external power to input the process; in contrast, passive methods do not require any additional energy to improve the thermohydraulic performance of the system. Passive methods are widely used in both experimental and numerical applications when investigating heat transfer enhancement and friction losses to save energy and costs. The many passive methods for increasing heat transfer rate include various components located in the fluid flow path, such as twisted tapes, coiled or tangled wires, and nozzle turbulators. The present paper represents a comprehensive review that focused on heat transfer enhancement methods with coiled wire and twisted tape inserts since the installation of inserts is easier and more economical. The thermodynamic performance of heat exchange components is also affected by the flow conditions such as laminar or turbulence. The present review comprises investigations on the enhancement of heat transfer using twisted tape and coiled wire inserts in laminar and turbulent flow region.

Book Use of Heat Transfer Enhancement Techniques in the Design of Heat Exchangers

Download or read book Use of Heat Transfer Enhancement Techniques in the Design of Heat Exchangers written by Martín Picón-Núñez and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat transfer enhancement refers to application of basic concepts of heat transfer processes to improve the rate of heat removal or deposition on a surface. In the flow of a clean fluid through the tube of a heat exchanger, the boundary layer theorem establishes that a laminar sublayer exists where the fluid velocity is minimal. Heat transfer through this stagnant layer is mainly dominated by thermal conduction, becoming the major resistance to heat transfer. From an engineering point of view, heat transfer can be enhanced if this stagnant layer is partially removed or eliminated. In single-phase heat transfer processes, three options are available to increase the heat transfer rate. One of them is the choice of smaller free flow sectional area for increased fluid velocity bringing about a reduction of the thickness of the laminar sublayer. A second option is the engineering of new surfaces which cause increased local turbulence, and the third option consists in the use of mechanical inserts that promote local turbulence. The application of these alternatives is limited by the pressure drop. This chapter describes the concept of heat transfer enhancement and the ways it is applied to the development of new heat exchanger technology.
