Book Heat transfer and Flow field Tests of the McDonnell Douglas Martin Marietta Space Shuttle Configurations

Download or read book Heat transfer and Flow field Tests of the McDonnell Douglas Martin Marietta Space Shuttle Configurations written by Richard K. Matthews and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerothermodynamic tests of Phase B space shuttle configurations proposed by McDonnell Douglas--Martin Marietta were conducted at Mach numbers 8 and 10.5. Test conditions provided both Mach number and Reynolds number simulation for typical ascent and reentry trajectories. This report provides a comprehensive analysis of the major test results and also presents data comparisons with theoretical calculations. Specific areas covered are ascent heating and shock interference, booster reentry heating and flow fields, and orbiter reentry analysis which includes leeside heating, windward shock angles and flow fields, windward surface heating, and boundary-layer transition.

Book Dominance of Radiated Aerodynamic Noise on Boundary layer Transition in Supersonic hypersonic Wind Tunnels

Download or read book Dominance of Radiated Aerodynamic Noise on Boundary layer Transition in Supersonic hypersonic Wind Tunnels written by Samuel R. Pate and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation was conducted to determine the effects of radiated aerodynamic-noise on boundary-layer transition in supersonic-hypersonic wind tunnels. It is conclusively shown that the aerodynamic noise (pressure fluctuations associated with sound waves), which radiate from the tunnel wall, turbulent boundary layer, will dominate the transition process on sharp flat places and sharp slender cones at zero incidence.

Book Space Shuttle Orbiter SILTS Pod Flow Angularity and Aerodynamic Heating Tests OH 102A and OH 400

Download or read book Space Shuttle Orbiter SILTS Pod Flow Angularity and Aerodynamic Heating Tests OH 102A and OH 400 written by K. W. Nutt and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat transfer, flow field, and oil flow tests were conducted on a 0.0175 scale model of the space shuttle orbiter. The tests were conducted at Mach 8. The objective of the tests was to determine the aerodynamic heating distribution on the orbiter SILTS tail configuration and to obtain flow field total pressure and total temperature measurements at the location of the leading edge of the vertical tail. The tests were conducted at free-stream Reynolds numbers ranging from 0.5 to 3.7 million per ft. The model angle of attack was varied from -5 to 5 deg and from 30 to 40 degrees.

Book Heat Transfer Tests of Two Space Shuttle Orbiter Configurations at Mach Number 8

Download or read book Heat Transfer Tests of Two Space Shuttle Orbiter Configurations at Mach Number 8 written by W. R. Martindale and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat transfer tests were conducted on two Space Shuttle configurations at Mach number 8 to investigate the effects of nose geometry on windward and leeward heating and boundary layer transition. Free-stream Reynolds number based on model length was varied from 1.5 to 7.5 million at angles of attack from 20 to 50 deg. Windward centerline heating rates were in general agreement with calculated values except for laminar rates dowstream of the wing/body junction. Differences in the location of the beginning of transition and the length of the transition zone were observed for the two configurations, but it was not clear whether variation in nose shape per se or the abrupt cross-sectional change from the nose to the aft fuselage and wing was the controlling factor.
