Book Heat Capacity Studies of Uranium and Uranium fissium Alloys

Download or read book Heat Capacity Studies of Uranium and Uranium fissium Alloys written by Howard Savage and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The heat contents of high-purity uranium and uranium-fissium alloys containing 3, 5, and 8 wt.% fissium were measured at temperatures from 0 deg C through their fusion temperatures. The total heat content above 0 deg C was determined by drop calorimetry and quantitative differential thermal analysis.

Book Structures and Properties of Uranium fissium Alloys

Download or read book Structures and Properties of Uranium fissium Alloys written by S. T. Zegler and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was made of the phase relations and the properties of uranium-fissium alloys which have compositions bracketing that intended for the first core loading of Experimental Breeder Reactor II. The fissium aggregate in the alloys consisted of the elements Zr, Nb, Mo, Ru, Rh, and Pd. Phase relations are shown to parallel closely those in the dominant U--Mo--Ru ternary system. The uranium gamma phase is stabilized down to 552 deg C, while the beta phase is entirely suppressed at high fissium contents. Certain crystallographic data are given and the minor phases that occur in the alloys are identified. In cast and gamma-quenched alloys the retention of the high-temperature gamma phase produced low hardness and low density. The thermal expansion behavior of the alloys is shown to be dependent upon composition and prior thermal history. Thermal conductivity data are presented for uranium and the uranium-fission alloys. The thermal conductivities of the alloys decrease with increasing fissium concentration.

Book Material Properties of Unirradiated Uranium Molybdenum U Mo Fuel for Research Reactors

Download or read book Material Properties of Unirradiated Uranium Molybdenum U Mo Fuel for Research Reactors written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-12 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication presents the material properties of all unirradiated Uranium-Molybdenum (U-Mo) fuel constituents that are essential for fuel designers and reactor operators to evaluate the fuel's performance and safety for research reactors. Many significant advances in the understanding and development of low enriched uranium U-Mo fuels have been made since 2004, stimulated by the need to understand irradiation behavior and early fuel failures during testing. The publication presents a comprehensive overview of mechanical and physical property data from U-Mo fuel research

Book Development and Properties of Uranium base Alloys Corrosion Resistant in High Temperature Water

Download or read book Development and Properties of Uranium base Alloys Corrosion Resistant in High Temperature Water written by Melvin L. Bleiberg and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of pile irradiations on the physical properties and corrosion resistance of U-- Mo, U-- Nb; and U--Si alloys are reported. The dimensional stability under irradiation of the gamma phase U-- Mo and U-- Nb alloys is excellent; however, an isotropic volume increase of 4 to 6% per wt.% burnup may limit the ultimate fuel element life. Corrosion resistance of the gamma-phase alloys appesrs to be improved when subjected to s neutron field; this is attributed to an irrsdiation induced stabilization of the gamma phases. The U/ sub 3/Si alloy, on the other hand, suffered severe deterioration, particularly of corrosion resistance. Changes in electrical resistivity, hardness, mechanical properties, and crystal structure are presented and the mechanisms producing the observed changes discussed.
