Excerpt: ... in a minor key; Her clear low voice and its tones are bringing A mingled melody back to me. Drifting down in the clear calm weather, 0, how sweet is the maiden's song! Love, my Love, when we drift together, O, how quickly we drift along. J. Ashby-sterry. LOVE AND I. Love came to me in the morning--A merry young imp was he; I knew when I saw him alighting, He wanted to stay with me. He folded his tiny wings and smiled, And then to my side drew nigh; But I wanted him not, so I told him to go, And Love flew away with a sigh. Love came to me in the noon-tide--Once more he was bright and gay; But I pushed him rudely from me, And told him to keep away. A SONG OF HEARTS. 109 A shadow came over his sunny face, As he lingered a moment near--Not a pang of regret or remorse felt I As Love flew off with a tear. Love came to me in the evening--He came in the twilight grey; And, oh! I was glad to see him, I wanted him then to stay. I poured out a goblet of sparkling wine, That we together might quaff. "Oh, stay with me now) sweet Love!" I cried, But Love flew off with a laugh. W. J. Cbosbie. A SONG OF HEARTS. When stars come forth in darkening skies, Love dreameth in thy wistful eyes--Oh! would I could young Love surprise When in those limpid orbs he sleeps, And modesty such close watch keeps Lest he should sudden wake and rise! Then would I bid the rogue confess That he has made thee long to bless Some heart that could thine own address In language only known to hearts--Or, better, through their subtle arts--And of him claim for thee redress. Because that when he knows full well My passion for thee, he'll not tell; But lets thee yearn and still rebel Against grim fate--what sayest thou, That "men are dull, or that ere now For thee had...

Book Thoughts From Nature s Heart Classic Reprint

Download or read book Thoughts From Nature s Heart Classic Reprint written by Harriet Trieloff Schelin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-29 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Thoughts From Nature's Heart To revise, publish and read the poetry of one who at that time has already been called to The Great Beyond is a task at once so painful and so pleasant that language seems to fail us in its capacity to express its own. Pain ful, because it keeps before us more than ever the start ling fact that Time again has deprived us of the pres ence of one without whom life will never again be quite the same - quite complete; pleasant, because it links us to that very Presence at its best. Or shall I say the Real Self, tho gone, is ever with us, giving its view-point unrestrainedly - checked, as it were, neither by impulses within or conditions without. Again, had Our Loved One lived, who knows whether we ever should have seen her aspirations in print! There was a certain shyness, or shall I say mod esty about her, which made her hesitate to show herself at her innate, true value and not one of us, husband or mother, sister or brother, ever caught her in the act of actually writing. Of at least two-thirds of her efforts no one but herself knew anything. It was but thru the untiring efforts of her husband that her very best selec tions were found, one by one; and the hiding places themselves were as inconspicuous as was the author. Not even of The Ode of the Memory of My Father, to me her favorite poem, did anyone, the family included, know the existence. In terms of a life lived so unpretentiously and so unassumingly, of a soul misunderstood by all but a fewwhose power of comprehension is far above that of the rest of us, we, her nearest and dearest, publish her writ ings, mainly for relatives and friends. Should others outside of that little circle wish to share our pleasure of reading, we shall be glad indeed, to serve them in the name of her whose physical serving has ceased to be. May her gentle spirit, better fit for a larger realm, look down upon our efforts in approval. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Heart Whispers Heart Whispers. The Goal Is Home. I cannot know one incident the morrow Across the hidden way may bring, I cannot know what heritage of sorrow, What rush of pain into my heart may fling Its numbing chill; I cannot know if joy will kiss My lips, and spill from out the bubbling cup of bliss One drop for me. The far horizon's misty light Allows no knowledge of the things beyond my sight - Of what shall come to me, or go from out my reach Is little worth my while to guess. The skybeams teach The lesson that my soul is all content to know - That whether light or shadow touch the path I go, The goal is home.
