Book Hearing Voices Demonic and Divine

Download or read book Hearing Voices Demonic and Divine written by Christopher C. H. Cook and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Open Access version of this book, available at www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9781472453983, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivative 4.0 license. Experiences of hearing the voice of God (or angels, demons, or other spiritual beings) have generally been understood either as religious experiences or else as a feature of mental illness. Some critics of traditional religious faith have dismissed the visions and voices attributed to biblical characters and saints as evidence of mental disorder. However, it is now known that many ordinary people, with no other evidence of mental disorder, also hear voices and that these voices not infrequently include spiritual or religious content. Psychological and interdisciplinary research has shed a revealing light on these experiences in recent years, so that we now know much more about the phenomenon of "hearing voices" than ever before. The present work considers biblical, historical, and scientific accounts of spiritual and mystical experiences of voice hearing in the Christian tradition in order to explore how some voices may be understood theologically as revelatory. It is proposed that in the incarnation, Christian faith finds both an understanding of what it is to be fully human (a theological anthropology), and God’s perfect self-disclosure (revelation). Within such an understanding, revelatory voices represent a key point of interpersonal encounter between human beings and God.

Whether it’s hearing God’s voice (the Word), having his ear (prayer), or participating in his body (fellowship), such spiritual rhythms of the Christian life have the power to awaken our souls to God’s glory and stir our hearts for lifelong service in his name. • ISBN : 9781780781884
  • Pages : 222 pages

Download or read book God Conversations written by Tania Harris and published by Authentic. This book was released on 2017 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do I know it's God? is one of the most commonly asked questions of new and mature Christians alike, and the aim of God Conversations is to both equip and inspire the reader and show them that hearing the voice of the Spirit is accessible to everyone who chooses to follow Jesus. Most Christians know that God speaks, yet struggle with how to recognise his voice in their everyday lives. What does God's voice sound like? How do we know if what we're hearing is from God? Stories of God talking to his people abound throughout the Bible, but we usually only get the highlights. We read; "And God said to Joseph; 'Go to Egypt'," and then; "Mary and Joseph left for Egypt." We don't get a blow-by-blow description of how God spoke. We don't receive a detailed explanation of how they knew it was God, and we don't get to see what was going on inside their heads as they acted on what they'd heard. In God Conversations, international speaker and pastor Tania Harris shares insights from her own journey about hearing God's voice. You'll get to eavesdrop on some contemporary conversations with God in the light of his communication with the ancient characters of the Bible. Part memoir, part teaching, this unique and creative collection of stories will help you to recognise God's voice when he speaks and how to respond when you do.

This book was released on 2020-04-09 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible tells us that "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" and "without faith, it is impossible to please God." We are also told that God speaks to us through His written word and spoken words. So how can we have faith if we can't hear the word of God? Hearing God's voice is not only reserved for those who are good, or holy, or special enough. It is a privilege that is available to anyone that truly follows Jesus Christ. It may not be easy, but it is possible for the most simple person to learn to do regardless of your intelligence, education, background, ancestry, or past sins. People often find the Bible difficult to read because it contains so much information about so many different and critically important subjects, that it is sometimes difficult to focus on one specific subject as you read through all the books of the Bible. This book extracts the scriptures, that the Bible gives, to help you hear the voice of God and gives simple practical advice so that you can avoid many mistakes that so many Christians have made, so that you can more easily live the abundantly blessed life that Jesus died for you to have. What the Bible Really Says about 'How to Hear God' is a book that simply and plainly explains what the Bible actually says about the subject and incorporates over twenty-five years of the author's life experience, and mistakes, that will help you to avoid making the same mistakes and to learn how to recognize, hear, and follow the voice of God in your everyday life.

Book Science and Religion in Partnership

Download or read book Science and Religion in Partnership written by Christian Ehemann and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-01-02 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's religions find themselves in conflict with modern science. If the laws of physics always hold as science claims, how could the miracles have occurred that are reported in sacred texts? How could God intervene in the world today to answer someone's prayer? This book looks for evidence that there is a spiritual reality in addition to a material reality and finds ample evidence that both realities are part of the universe in which we live. It is the rapid development of science over the past three hundred years, and the much slower evolution of religious thought that is the source of today's conflicts. A satisfactory understanding of our universe requires a partnership between science and religion in which these major areas of thought and knowledge each learn from the other. This understanding must begin with mutual agreement as to what the major components of the universe are. The existence of material reality is not disputed. This book provides a survey of what else exists. For each nonmaterial entity considered, the evidence is examined for consistency with the findings of science. Many inanimate entities are investigated, including mathematical objects, laws of nature, love, and justice. Animate nonmaterial entities investigated include a supreme spiritual being and human souls. A supreme spiritual being need not be a personal god, and reaching that conclusion requires careful analysis of additional data from a variety of sources. Special attention is given to the relationship between Jesus and this personal God. Following the survey of nonmaterial reality, this book investigates some of the additional implications of science for religious belief and for religious practice. Topics covered here include implications of science as they relate to the effectiveness of prayer, revelation, religious ritual, the focus of religious life, and the afterlife.

Download or read book Religion and Illness written by Annette Weissenrieder and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-11-04 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the relevant conceptualities and terminologies marking the coupling of religion and medical interpretations of illness in different religions such as Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Christianity? How do religious orientations influence courses of a disease? How do experiences of illness change images of the divine in late modernity? This collection of essays from a symposium held at the International Research Institute of the University of Heidelberg examines connections between religious and medical interpretations of illness in different cultures in order to suggest criteria for coupling religion and medicine in ways that enhance rather than diminish life. By discerning which relationships between religion and medicine appear to be beneficial and which harmful, the book as a whole proposes criteria that are not limited to a single scientific approach, cultural tradition, or time period (such as the present). The book has four parts, which deal with Islamic medicine, Chinese medicine, and the relationship between religion and medicine in both Jewish and Christian traditions. All chapters cover from antiquity to the present.
