Book Healthy Habits For A Healthy Heart

Download or read book Healthy Habits For A Healthy Heart written by Robert C Mansfield and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2022-08-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heart disease is the top cause of mortality for men, women, and individuals of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. One person dies every 34 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease. About 697,000 individuals in the United States died from heart disease in 2020-that's 1 in every 5 fatalities. In the United States, someone suffers a heart attack every 40 seconds. Every year, roughly 805,000 individuals in the United States experience a heart attack. Of these, 605,000 are a first heart attack, 200,000 happen to those who have previously experienced a heart attack. About 5 heart attacks are silent-the harm is done, but the victim is not aware of it. With these in mind, it's better to prevent heart complications from occurring than to be in this number. With so many good publications about cardiac protection currently accessible, why is heart disease still the number one killer of men and women? Despite hundreds of proven diet and exercise regimens available, why are most individuals overweight? Why aren't we doing a better job of preventing heart disease? We know what to do, so why aren't we following through? What are we doing wrong? In Healthy Habits For A Healthy Heart: Best Natural Preventive Practices For Heart Attack, cardiologist Dr. Robert C. Mansfield gives answers to these issues and offered a fresh approach, including nutrition and exercise, that may help you minimize your risk of heart disease. Prevention (reducing blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar; decreasing weight via diet and exercise) must be seen as a genuine therapy for heart disease, no different from drugs, a heart bypass, or an angioplasty. In other words, regulating your blood pressure and decreasing your cholesterol (prevention) is equally as essential as having an angioplasty (therapy) (treatment). Losing weight and managing your diabetes (prevention) is just as vital as bypass surgery (therapy) (treatment). Prevention is the most essential therapy for heart disorders

Book Your Guide to Lowering Your Blood Pressure with Dash

Download or read book Your Guide to Lowering Your Blood Pressure with Dash written by U. S. Department Human Services and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2012-07-09 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book by the National Institutes of Health (Publication 06-4082) and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute provides information and effective ways to work with your diet because what you choose to eat affects your chances of developing high blood pressure, or hypertension (the medical term). Recent studies show that blood pressure can be lowered by following the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating plan-and by eating less salt, also called sodium. While each step alone lowers blood pressure, the combination of the eating plan and a reduced sodium intake gives the biggest benefit and may help prevent the development of high blood pressure. This book, based on the DASH research findings, tells how to follow the DASH eating plan and reduce the amount of sodium you consume. It offers tips on how to start and stay on the eating plan, as well as a week of menus and some recipes. The menus and recipes are given for two levels of daily sodium consumption-2,300 and 1,500 milligrams per day. Twenty-three hundred milligrams is the highest level considered acceptable by the National High Blood Pressure Education Program. It is also the highest amount recommended for healthy Americans by the 2005 "U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans." The 1,500 milligram level can lower blood pressure further and more recently is the amount recommended by the Institute of Medicine as an adequate intake level and one that most people should try to achieve. The lower your salt intake is, the lower your blood pressure. Studies have found that the DASH menus containing 2,300 milligrams of sodium can lower blood pressure and that an even lower level of sodium, 1,500 milligrams, can further reduce blood pressure. All the menus are lower in sodium than what adults in the United States currently eat-about 4,200 milligrams per day in men and 3,300 milligrams per day in women. Those with high blood pressure and prehypertension may benefit especially from following the DASH eating plan and reducing their sodium intake.

Book Habits of the Heart

Download or read book Habits of the Heart written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bellah led a team of sociologists in interviewing some 200 Americans on love, work, success and values. Blending interviews with historical analysis, they explore what habits of the heart move Americans, and what beliefs and practices shape their character and social order. They examine the traditions Americans use to make sense of themselves and their society and show that while individualism creates self-reliant heroes, it also destroys the fabric of community and the capacity for commitment to one another. Most of the people interviewed--wives and husbands, managers, psychotherapists, local businessmen and civic activists--are split between a public world of competitive striving and a private world supposed to provide the meaning and love that make the competitive jungle bearable. Book Stress Proof Your Heart

Download or read book Stress Proof Your Heart written by Eliz Greene and published by Sound Wisdom. This book was released on 2020-04-04 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is stress hurting your heart? Do you want to live longer, feel better, and protect your health? A stress-proof heart is immune to the physical impact of unrelenting stress. Diet and exercise play an important role in preventing heart disease, but the most insidious, under-addressed risk factor of all is the one that many of us find the hardest to manage—stress. We can’t alleviate all stress, and we wouldn’t want to even if we could. Some stress is natural and necessary; it is what gives us the zing of energy to get things done. Trouble comes when that zing becomes a constant thrum, continually triggering the stress hormone cortisol to pump into the body rather than allowing it to ebb and flow as we need it. This book provides tools to power a fulfilling life by efficiently processing cortisol out of the body and nurturing a heart resilient enough to withstand high stress, change, crisis—and to bounce back from illness. Author Eliz Greene knows that protecting your heart from stress isn’t a “nice-to-have.” The strategies in this book are essential, life-or-death skills. When she was 35 years old and 7 months pregnant with twins, Eliz survived a massive heart attack, causing her heart to stop for 10 minutes. To reduce her heightened risk of having another heart attack, she’s spent the last 17 years honing practical and implementable strategies to manage stress for herself and the thousands of audience members and readers she reaches each year. Stress-Proof Your Heart contains these strategies and the fruits of her international research study on job stress. Engaging assessments and actionable principles and tools will enable you to evaluate the physical impact of your stress and then offset that impact to protect your heart. Find out how to: Protect your heart from the stress hormone cortisol and avoid countless other unpleasant symptoms such as weight gain (especially in the belly and face), insomnia, muscle weakness, mood swings, and reduced cognitive function. Use everyday activities to help your body efficiently process cortisol of your system, so you can to feel better and function at a higher physical and mental level. Motivate yourself to commit to a healthier life. Includes bonus content to address emotional stress from Eliz’s book Stress-Proof Your Life.
