Download or read book Healing the Pharmacy of the World written by K.L. Sharma and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2021-08-30 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indian pharmaceutical industry, it is argued, has democratized the availability, accessibility and affordability of medicines. Everyone, rich or poor, can now get them at a fraction of the cost of branded drugs. However, the allegations about their suspect quality, if true, pose questions of life-and-death for the unsuspecting consumers. Is it the messiah supplying the low-cost quality medicines across the globe or is it the precursor for the ultimate indigence of the unsuspecting millions consuming poor-quality generic medicines? In the absence of any evidence, it remains an inexplicable enigma. This book by a public policy practitioner of four decades who steered drug regulation in the Government of India unravels the truth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early modern Atlantic World, pharmacopoeias—official lists of medicaments and medicinal preparations published by municipal, national, or imperial governments—organized the world of healing goods, giving rise to new and valuable medical commodities such as cinchona bark, guaiacum, and ipecac. Pharmacopoeias and related texts, developed by governments and official medical bodies as a means to standardize therapeutic practice, were particularly important to scientific and colonial enterprises. They served, in part, as tools for making sense of encounters with a diversity of peoples, places, and things provoked by the commercial and colonial expansion of early modern Europe. Drugs on the Page explores practices of recording, organizing, and transmitting information about medicinal substances by artisans, colonial officials, indigenous peoples, and others who, unlike European pharmacists and physicians, rarely had a recognized role in the production of official texts and medicines. Drawing on examples across various national and imperial contexts, contributors to this volume offer new and valuable insights into the entangled histories of knowledge resulting from interactions and negotiations between Europeans, Africans, and Native Americans from 1500 to 1850.

Book The Green Pharmacy Guide to Healing Foods

Download or read book The Green Pharmacy Guide to Healing Foods written by James A. Duke and published by Rodale Books. This book was released on 2009-06-23 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Upon its publication more than a decade ago, Dr. James Duke's The Green Pharmacy quickly set the standard for consumer herb references. A favorite of laypeople and professionals alike, the book sold more than a million copies and solidified the author's reputation as one of the world's foremost authorities on medicinal plants. In The Green Pharmacy Guide to Healing Foods, Dr. Duke turns to the broader and even more popular subject of food as medicine, drawing on more than thirty years of research to identify the most powerful healing foods on earth. Whether he is revealing how to beat high cholesterol with blueberries, combat hot flashes with black beans, bash blood sugar spikes with almonds, or help relieve agonizing back pain with pineapple, Dr. Duke's food remedies help treat and prevent the whole gamut of health concerns, from minor (such as sunburn and the common cold) to more serious (like arthritis and diabetes). Dr. Duke has assigned a rating to each remedy, according to his evaluation of the available scientific studies and anecdotal reports. Many of the healing foods recommended here are proving so effective that they may outperform popular pharmaceuticals—minus the risk (and cost).

Book The Healing Past

Download or read book The Healing Past written by Irene Jacob and published by BRILL. This book was released on 1993 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on our present knowledge of pharmaceuticals in the Biblical and Rabbinic world, a subject which has received little attention. Although many aspects of ancient Near Eastern cultural life have been studied thoroughly, no one has dealt with the pharmaceutical knowledge of this period. The essays in this study deal with their themes in different ways. They thus provide the best current information on a particular subject. They also demonstrate various approaches which may prove fruitful for further investigation. References in specialized studies and archeological field work have demonstrated that our knowledge in this area continues to grow. The fragmented and isolated nature of this material has led to it remaining unknown to those interested in the history of medicine, pharmacy, and horticulture. The authors have sought to fill this gap.

It also remains a significant part of the healing and visionary traditions of Latin American curanderos and Brazilian, Nepalese, and Indian folk medicine. Modern research has confirmed the effectiveness of marijuana's application in treating such diseases as asthma and glaucoma. Christian Ratsch profiles the medicinal, historical, and cultural uses of cannabis in each of these societies and medical systems, providing remedies and recipes for those interested in how cannabis can be used to treat specific conditions.

Now a recognized and practicing ayahuasquero, or ayahuasca shaman, in Peru, he offers an insider’s account of the ayahuasca tradition and of its use for expanding consciousness and achieving healing through access to other dimensions of being. Shoemaker details his training and his own curandero practice using ayahuasca medicine, tobacco purges, psychedelic mushrooms, and other visionary plants. He discusses the different traditions of his two foremost teachers and mentors, Don Juan in the Peruvian Amazon, an ayahuasquero, and Valentin in Ecuador, a San Pedro shaman. He reveals the indispensable role played by icaros, the healing songs of the plant shaman, and offers firsthand accounts of miraculous healing resulting from ayahuasca’s ability to reveal the cause of an illness, including how he healed his mother from liver cancer. The author also addresses the rising popularity of Northerners traveling to the Amazon to seek healing and mind expansion through ayahuasca and shows how this fascination is triggered by humanity’s reawakening need to connect to the universal life force.

Download or read book Healing written by Mary Healy and published by Our Sunday Visitor. This book was released on 2015-10-23 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed." - Matthew 8:8 When we, or a family member or friend, are faced with an injury or illness, physical or emotional, our thoughts turn to God in prayer for healing. We want to believe, as the Centurion did, that God will grant healing, but we wonder. And if we as Catholics have doubts, what does this mean to a hurting world, also in need of healing? In her new book Healing: Bringing God's Gift of Mercy to the World, Mary Healy answers to these questions and more -- Is Jesus still healing people today? Are these healings real and do they last? How do we know if God wants us to pray for healing? Isn't God asking us to endure suffering and hardships instead of asking for healing? How can we pray for healing? Can my broken heart be healed as well as my body? Through the study of Catholic tradition, the lives of the saints, and ordinary people, you'll begin to understand how the message of inward healing is also a message that we as Catholics are empowered to take outward to the world.

Book Medicine for the Earth

Download or read book Medicine for the Earth written by Sandra Ingerman and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2010-05-05 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From cross-cultural legends recounting shamanic cures to the biblical accounts of the parting of the Red Sea and Jesus multiplying the loaves and fishes, many spiritual traditions are rich in stories about seemingly inexplicable transformations of the natural world. The ancient healing art of transmutation, in which toxic substances are transformed into "safe" substances, is mentioned in all the world's great spiritual traditions, including Hinduism and Taoism. And while many have tapped this body of work to heal the self, it has yet to be used to heal our environment. For twenty years, Sandra Ingerman has studied alternative ways to reverse environmental pollution. In this book, Ingerman takes us on a remarkable journey through the history of transmutation, teaching us how we can use this forgotten technique to change ourselves and our environment. She provides us with creative visualizations, ceremonies, rituals, and chants derived from ancient healing practices that produce miraculous, scientifically proven results. In one dramatic illustration of what can be accomplished when consciousness and awareness fuel our actions, Ingerman describes her own success in transforming the nature of chemically polluted water.

  • Pages : 623 pages

Download or read book Radical Healing written by Rudolph Ballentine and published by Three Rivers Press (CA). This book was released on 1999 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This extraordinary book offers nothing less than a new vision of medical care. Rudolph Ballentine, M.D., has created a unique, integrative blending of the primary holistic schools of healing that is far more potent than any one of these alone. Like Deepak Chopra and Andrew Weil, Rudolph Ballentine is a medical doctor who became intrigued by the workings of mind-body medicine and looked beyond the West in his search for understanding. Drawing on thirty years of medical study and practice, Dr. Ballentine has accomplished a singular feat: integrating the wisdom of the great traditional healing systems--especially Ayurveda, homeopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, European and Native American herbology, nutrition, psychotherapy, and bodywork. Melded together, the profound principles buried in these systems become clearer and stronger, and a new level of effectiveness becomes possible. Healing and reorganization are accelerated and deepened--physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The result is transformation. The result is radical healing. Radical Healing harnesses nature's medicinals--plants and other natural substances--with commonsense essentials such as diet, exercise, and cleansing, as well as the most profound principles of spiritual and psychological transformation. In Dr. Ballentine's synthesis, illness is an opportunity for growth that can go far beyond recovery. Through radical healing old habits and attitudes that supported the development of disease fall away, to be replaced by the clarity that comes with a whole new way of being in the world.
