Book Calming the Storm Within

Download or read book Calming the Storm Within written by Jim Lange and published by . This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is the best book on attaining peace that I've ever read...it has all the makings of a classic. Here's why I like this book: It's relevant (who doesn't want greater peace?); It's human (Jim shares, doesn't preach); It's engaging (enjoyable to read, its lessons very practical); And, it's biblically rooted (I'm frankly suspect of other peace-prescriptions). It's just what you and I need as we try to navigate our pressure-packed lives " John D. Beckett, Chairman, The Beckett Companies Author: Loving Monday and Mastering Monday One of the few constants in life is change. Our lives are so unpredictable. Jobs are lost. Health falters. Loved ones pass away. Relationships get rocky. Stress comes like a tidal wave. Being a follower of Jesus doesn't necessarily make it easier. In fact, He told us we'd have trouble in this life: "In this world you will have trouble..".That means all of us. Guaranteed. While Jesus didn't leave us without hope, trouble often brings with it a lack of peace. We become prisoners to worry, anxiety and fear. Thankfully, Jesus didn't stop there. We CAN be free. After making this prediction of trouble in our lives, Jesus was also quick to remind us that He is bigger than any of our troubles: "But take heart I have overcome the world." Jesus not only came to provide a way to heaven-He came to give us life to the full. That means inner peace in recessions. Serenity in the midst of relationship struggles. Calm regardless of circumstances. This isn't just any kind of peace...it is the peace which transcends all understanding, a level of peace that we cannot imagine. And God has made this readily available. So take hold of this peace. It's meant for you. This easy-to-read book walks the reader through a process to discovering peace in the midst of the chaos which abounds in your life. Because it is rooted in Scripture, if you follow the principles outlined here you WILL find true, lasting peace regardless of the circumstances in your life.

Book Still Amidst the Storm

Download or read book Still Amidst the Storm written by Conor Gallagher and published by Tan Books. This book was released on 2019-01-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Peace! Be still!" Mark 4:39 The apostles are trapped in a mighty storm, their fishing boat on the brink of capsizing. . . . And Jesus slept. This confused, scared, and even angered the apostles, who could not fight back the storm. But as always, Christ is our model. In these modern times, we often find ourselves adrift in a storm of stress, anxiety, and chronic busy-ness. We all suffer from it. In these moments, it's easy to react like the apostles. To panic, to become angry, to be frightened. But like Christ, we should strive to be still amidst the storm. Here, Conor Gallagher (as a father of 12, no stranger to life's chaos) helps you reflect upon and cultivate three remedies to the stress of modern life: encountering God in the present moment which requires of a stillness of mind, to remain in the moment instead of fretting over past mistakes or future anxieties listening to the voice of God, which can only be heard by blocking out the relentless noise of the world and calming our increasingly restless souls resting in serene stillness by resisting the stir-crazy spirit of the world and rejecting busy-ness for busy-ness sake In a world that constantly bombards us with noise, this little book offers a wealth of practical advice and real-world guidance on how to cut out stress, anxiety, and worry so that we may rest in the Lord and hear his voice, so that we may be Still Amidst the Storm.

Writer and Bible teacher Jen Wise knew that holistic faith—that reaches into every facet of life—is what brings grace and renewal. But she didn’t begin to live this truth until her world fractured. So as she searched Scripture for a better way, she discovered Jesus’ invitation for just that: small steps able to lead us into a bright new beginning. So to the woman who feels her all is never enough, The Bright Life is your invitation to a new start. You were created to be healthy, strong, vibrant, and to rest in the unforced rhythms of grace Jesus so lovingly makes available to us all. Come along and learn how to avoid habits that seem smart but are deceptively self-sabotaging, pick up habits of wholeness that actually stick, and try surprising ways to practice kindness toward yourself and generosity toward loved ones. The Bright Life extends a daily invitation with striking insights, tips to reclaim your energy, and a three-part practice of looking inward, upward, and outward as you step into a brighter way. Book The Miracles of Jesus Women s Bible Study Participant Workbook

Download or read book The Miracles of Jesus Women s Bible Study Participant Workbook written by Jessica LaGrone and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus demonstrated the presence and power of God by performing miracles. He turned water into wine, healed the sick, calmed the storm, opened blind eyes, and raised the dead. While these beloved stories draw our attention to divine power, they also have something else in common: human desperation. Every time we see Jesus performing a miracle, we also get a glimpse into the gift of desperation, a gift that opens us to the dramatic power of God through our desperate need for him. In this six-week Bible study, Jessica LaGrone leads us in a captivating exploration of the miracles of Jesus, helping us to see that our weakness is an invitation for God to work powerfully in our lives and reminding us that we need God on our best days just as much as we do on our worst. Themes and miracle stories include: the gift of desperation (turning water into wine and other signs of God's response of fullness in our times of emptiness) the miracle of abundance (feeding the 5,000 and other abundance stories) miracles on the water (calming the storm, walking on water, the abundant catch) Jesus our healer (5 stories of healing) death and resurrection (Lazarus, Jairus’ daughter) the miracle we all receive (the Incarnation) The participant workbook includes five days of lessons for each week, combining study of Scripture with personal reflection, application, and prayer. Other components for the Bible study, available separately, include a Leader Guide, DVD with six 20-25 minute sessions, and boxed Leader Kit.

Book Sustaining Persons Grieving Losses

Download or read book Sustaining Persons Grieving Losses written by Dianne Crowther and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-01-19 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dementia presents a significant social issue in a hyper-cognitive culture where stigma, relational neglect, and isolation still accompany forgetfulness. This raises serious theological, ecclesiological, and pastoral questions calling for a Christian response. To fight against a malignant social positioning of anyone as an "an empty shell" is crucial; nonetheless, there is another pressing reality, the reality of ongoing loss. Often the focus is on one or the other side: affirming personhood or acknowledging loss and grief. Spiritual caregiving and Christian pastoral caregiving are uniquely placed to offer both sustaining relationship and grief support to both caregivers and persons with dementia. This pastoral approach emerges from cultural scholarship, rigorous on-the-ground research, and theological reflection on God's purposes in responding to persons in and beyond the Christian community. Christian communities are called to be places of agape love, compassion, and hospitality. We, individually and corporately, are called to care: to love, honor, value, comfort, and sustain one another--and "one another" includes those who travel the road of forgetting and those who travel with them. This fresh pastoral approach offers theologically and culturally informed, practical ways of sustaining persons in the midst of their losses, throughout the dementia journey.
