Download or read book A Baby Boomer s Decision Making written by Francis J. Kostel and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2010-08 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Baby Boomer's Decision Making drives the nation's 75 million baby boomers to examine life through the decisions they make, whether they are considering finances, changing national priorities or the needs of aging parents. Boomers will explore decisions of love, school, career, family and fun. From 1956 Chevrolets to Martin Luther King Jr., Vietnam and the 21st century, memoir snippets expose the author's best and worst decision making. From these engaging stories, a model of decision making emerges driven by individual experience in a distinctive combination of understanding, relationships and God. A Baby Boomer's Decision Making creates a bridge from abstract theoretical manuscripts to the daily reality, dreams and apprehensions of baby boomers. Mathematics unlocks the tools of decision making, and prejudice is an omnipresent force. The peaks and valleys of love, family and career highlight the ingredients of decision making. Guidelines and principles of decision making solidify and further assist readers in reviewing the past, assessing the present and preparing for their future. A series of activities and questions at the end of the book encourage individual reflection or small group discussion. Francis J. Kostel earned a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. As superintendent of schools in suburban Chicago's St. Charles, he led the district of more than 13,000 students, 1,600 staff members and 17 schools. Download or read book Train Your Mind for Athletic Success written by Jim Taylor, PhD and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2017-10-06 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much too often, the mental aspect of sport performance is overlooked. While all top athletes are in outstanding physical condition and technically exceptional, mental preparation is often what separates the best from the rest. This is just as true for young athletes as it is for pros and Olympians. And even though relatively few athletes will ever reach the top of their sport, the attitudes and life lessons learned from mental training—such as motivation, confidence, focus, perseverance, and resilience—will serve them well in all aspects of their lives. In Train Your Mind for Athletic Success: Mental Preparation to Achieve Your Sports Goals, Dr. Jim Taylor uses his own elite athletic experience and decades of working with some of the world’s best athletes to provide competitors of every ability with insights, practical exercises, and tools they can use to be mentally prepared when it really counts. His Prime Sport System explores the attitudes that lay the foundation for athletic success, the mental obstacles that can hold athletes back, the preparations they must take, the mental muscles they should strengthen, and the mental tools they need to fine tune their competitive performances. Most importantly, Dr. Taylor shows athletes practical strategies they can use to become mentally strong so they can perform their best when it matters most. Train Your Mind for Athletic Success goes well beyond the typical mental skills that are discussed in other mental training books. Readers will not only learn why mental preparation is so important to athletic success, but also where they personally are in each area thanks to brief mental assessments in each section of the book. In addition, each chapter includes exercises to show athletes how to incorporate mental training directly into their overall sport training regimen. The most comprehensive and in-depth book on mental preparation for athletes available, Train Your Mind for Athletic Success is an essential read for athletes, coaches, and parents.

Download or read book My Cave My View written by Gary Torres and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gary has used a Twain-like humor with a folksy small town snapshot of life to make us stop and reconsider our own life. He opens up with humor and tenderness that will bring laughter and tears from the same page as he paints pictures of the people, places, and activities that surround him. He and his dog Turbo, his too kind and loving wife, and four children are the innocents abroad on a raft made of love, pain, laughter, and hope that is floating the mighty Mississippi of life somewhere in the West. From his experience raising kids, fighting cancer, running marathons his insights are like barbs on a fence that grab hold of you. Each section of the book contains small snippets of life and insights that make the reader pause to laugh at the character and themselves. BATTLE OF THE SEXES: There it is...one blanket, one bed, two people. It is almost certain that someone is going to be cold tonight. Oh sure, we act cordial enough, remove our slippers, plump our pillows, shake the sheets, then position the mutual blanket and snuggle in for a good night's sleep; a wonderful ending to the age old battle of the sexes. A temporary truce of sorts, can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY: "You drive me crazy." There was a time when my wife said those words, and that was a good thing. Now, when she says those words, it is with a different tone and a different meaning. It's more like, "YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY!!!" And after being married and having kids I have come to decide that it is the little things that will eventually drive a person crazy. BAGS, CHAPSTICK, AND SHOPPING: I'm sitting here in my cave, talking to my dog, Turbo. "Do ya think that we'll ever understand women?" He looked up, smiled and wagged his tail; I think he thought I said, "Would ya like a bite of my sandwich?" Whenever I talk, he must always think I say that, because he always smiles and wags his tail the same way. MYOWN EMERGENCY ROOM VISIT: Well I can tell you one thing. Don't be going to the hospital if you want to get rest and relaxation. Just about the time I would fall asleep, some nurse would come in and shake me and say, "How ya feeling? Are you getting plenty of rest? I need some more blood. This is going to sting just a tiny bit." And proceed to play pin the tail on the donkey again. Frankly, I was tired of the game and didn't want to be the donkey anymore (although many think I am a natural for the part).
