This carefully selected collection covers a range of themes and subjects, including citizenship, war and peace, law and order, governance and corruption, and India’s place in the world. The letters also cover momentous world events and the many crises the country faced during the first sixteen years after Independence. Download or read book NATIONALIST MOVEMENT IN ODISHA written by Manas Kumar Das and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-07-16 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second half of the 19th century witnessed the growth of organized nationalist movement in India. It arose to meet the challenge of foreign domination. The direct and indirect consequences of British rule provided the material, moral and intellectual conditions for the development of nationalist movement in India. In this connection, Odisha (previously Orissa) as a part of the nation also witnessed the reflections of it. In Odisha, nationalism developed in two different ways. First, the merger of all Odia-speaking regions and secondly, in the later phase with the growth of national awakening, the people of Odisha involved themselves with the mainstream of the national movement along with the rest of the country. However, the aim of the paper is to highlight the nationalist movement in Odisha. In fact, the history of nationalist movement in Odisha, despite the local differences and issues, was an expression of forces that represent an integral part of the all-India freedom struggle against British Raj.
Download or read book Jallianwala Bagh written by V.N. DATTA and published by Penguin Enterprise. This book was released on 2021-08 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a meticulous exploration of the primary sources and oral testimonies of the survivors and victims of 1919, V.N. Datta crafts a unique and first-hand narrative of the most violent event and its legacy in the history of modern India and provides a complex picture of the city of Amritsar, where he grew up. Jallianwala Bagh is a rigorous account of the causes, nature and impact of the carnage that shook the nation and irreparably wounded its collective consciousness. A pathbreaking study that moves the focus away from the frames of imperialism and nationalism, Jallianwala Bagh brings a local and an altogether different scholarly perspective on imperial, racial and military violence in the twentieth century. This highly readable work in its revised edition is of tremendous historical and contemporary value.

Download or read book The Way to Women s Freedom written by Anjana Gangopadhyay and published by Advaita Ashrama (A publication branch of Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math). This book was released on with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The degree of freedom enjoyed is the first and the foremost factor in evaluating the health of an individual and society. It is the means and also the supreme end of human well-being. But for ages women have been subjugated and suppressed. Victims of gender politics from timeless past, today modern women are struggling to break away from their imprisonment. Published by Advaita Ashrama, a branch of Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math, the central issue dealt with in this small book is The Way to Women's Freedom. Are the modern women truly heading towards freedom? Or are they moving towards another trap? Often what appears to be freedom on the surface proves to be enslavement in disguise! What is the true meaning of freedom? What is the way? This is an extraordinarily important issue of modern times with widespread ramifications. Swami Vivekananda's views on this matter are crucial. The author carefully presents two contrasting pictures: (1) The present day woman, her status, and her expression of freedom, and (2) Swami Vivekananda's view of a truly free woman, and the way to achieve that freedom.
