Download or read book Hardcore Java written by Robert Simmons Jr and published by "O'Reilly Media, Inc.". This book was released on 2004-03-11 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Java has quickly become one of the most important languages in programming, particularly for professional and enterprise-level projects. From its infancy as a language primarily used for web applets to its maturity through servlets, Enterprise JavaBeans, and database access, Java has become a complex and robust tool for today's developer.Hardcore Java takes this language and breaks it apart, piece by piece, revealing the important secrets and tricks that will take you from a junior-level programmer to a seasoned and expert developer. You'll fly through the fundamentals and quickly find yourself learning about advanced memory management techniques, optimization and bytecode-level enhancements, and the techniques required to build lightning-fast GUIs. Throughout the book, you'll also master the art of writing and maintaining bulletproof and error-proof code, all while grasping the intricacies of the Java language.Hardcore Java covers: Use of the final keyword to optimize and protect your Java classes. Complete and thorough coverage of all types of nested classes, including how to optimize anonymous and inner classes. Detailed discussion of immutable objects, including unique tips on when to use them (and when not to). Elimination of bugs through exception-handling management. In-depth studies of constants, including their impact on the Java memory model. The most thorough discussion of reflection in print, moving far beyond other books' "Hello World" coverage. Construction and use of dynamic proxies, in both Java Standard and Enterprise editions. Expansive coverage of weak references, including usage patterns and their role in garbage collection and memory management. Hardcore Java is an invaluable addition to every programmer's library, and even the most advanced developers will find themselves moving beyond their own conceptions into truly advanced applications of the language. Thousands of lines of code, heavily commented and easily runnable, illustrate each concept in the book.

Book The Paradox of Fiscal Austerity

Download or read book The Paradox of Fiscal Austerity written by Justin Vélez-Hagan and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-12-12 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If governments followed the optimal fiscal policy path, surpluses in good times would counter necessary deficits during economic downturns, leading to worldwide balance. The world, however, has chosen to go in a different direction in recent decades, avoiding thrift in light of a decidedly more indebted future. When financial crises kicked off a global recession in 2008, the spotlight placed on countries’ fiscal conditions put pressure on policymakers around the globe to find a way to slow the growth of deficits and debt by imposing fiscal consolidations (or, more simply, austerity). How have these policies fared across the developed world? Were they even necessary to begin with? This book examines the many factors that have contributed to the success (or failure) of such policies, including timing, magnitude, accompanying policies, composition, and more, while explaining the economic rationale behind their choices.

Book Synthesis and Analytics of Rigidified Peptide Architectures Neuropeptide Y Dipeptide Scan Ring Chain Equilibria of Iminopeptides Thiazole Amino Acids for Thiopeptide Antibiotics

Download or read book Synthesis and Analytics of Rigidified Peptide Architectures Neuropeptide Y Dipeptide Scan Ring Chain Equilibria of Iminopeptides Thiazole Amino Acids for Thiopeptide Antibiotics written by Sebastian Enck and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2010 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The architectures (three-dimensional shapes) of peptides determine their respective biological functions. Therefore, the correct alignment of functionalities in a structure by constraining the flexibility is a key process in evolution as well as in medicinal chemistry in order to increase binding affinity and selectivity. The rigidification of a peptide chain can have local effects (incorporation of the amino acid proline) or it can globally restrain flexibility (macrocyclization). Furthermore, the combination of both strategies has given rise to complex antibiotics with highly optimized modes of action. This work approaches these principles in three topics and for different purposes. The first chapter presents a novel scanning strategy which utilizes synthetic local rigidifications for the evaluation of Neuropeptide Y structure and receptor binding patterns. The fundamental process of macrocyclization is topic of the second chapter. For iminopeptides, ring-chain equilibria can be established and controlled, thereby allowing for the thermodynamic analysis of the ring closure. This leads to the identification of structural determinants that influence the inclination of a peptide chain to close the ring. In the third chapter, a sugarbased synthetic pathway leading to highly functionalized thiazole dipeptides is described. This strategy led to the synthesis of core motivs of complex thiopeptide antibiotics, as well as to diastereomers and homologs thereof.
