Book The Helper s Apprentice

Download or read book The Helper s Apprentice written by C E Pickhardt and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-07 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Too bad Professor Skye wasn't around to help. Professor Skye. Did he mean what he had said? That I would be his apprentice? Probably not. But I wished he had. I never even got to thank him for helping find my money. Of course, I told my mom and sister about Professor Skye, but they thought this was more of my pretending. More of my stories. Just because I liked to make things up, Mom sometimes found it hard believing me. Oh, I'd tell the truth all right, but then I'd add some make-believe to make the truth even better. If I took extra long before getting something done, it was because the clocks got tired and slowed down to take a rest. "Tell me another story that's a little closer to the truth," my Mom would say. "One that I won't have such a hard time believing." So I'd take out some of the make-believe, even though the story was never near as good. But not this time. Professor Skye had been real!

Book Treatment Of Suicidal People

Download or read book Treatment Of Suicidal People written by Robert A. Neimeyer and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treatment of suicidal people takes three forms: prevention - strategies to avert conditions leading to suicide; intervention - treatment and care during the crisis; and postvention - response after the event has occurred. Unlike other current literature, here the focus is on the state of the art of intervention. This type of examination is essential, because suicidal people themselves are in need of such treatments - crisis intervention, psychotherapy, psychopharmacology and hospitalization. Written by professionals in the field, the Treatment of Suicidal People allows readers to participate in a learning experience. First is a case presentation of an individual - Arthur Inman - and his long road toward suicide, as chronicled in his personal diary. The seond section puts forth guidelines for the evaluation of suicide risk and crisis intervention. A focus on more sustained efforts in psychotherapy is next, a theme which is continued in the fourth part by addressing psychiatric issues that are essential for treatment of highly disturbed and lethal patients. The following section examines a number of clinical and legal issues that transcend any one population of suicidal people, and any particular treatment approach or context. And lastly, the volume returns to Arthur Inman, with case consultations providing alternative perspectives and recommendations on his treatment. Suicide and related forms of self-injurious behaviour can be circumvented, if the involved professionals are sufficiently trained in assessment and prevention.

Book excerpt: In this book it is not my intention to teach anyone but only to incite everyone to think about, to speak about and to recommend in order improving life for entire humanity independent, of race, color, ethnicity, languages or religion for everyone to become in agreement according to its given gift, which is powerful Spirit of love, what we call talent. It is not my idea that proves that, but myriad of humans as modern prophets that by their work witnessed for real life directed by the powerful Spirit of love call talent is only one way only one direction toward goodness for entire humanity, which pleases only One whom we call Great Creator. We may call it as universal secular religion or secular ideology as you wish which is universal and founded on free gift, given talent and responsibility while divine religion is religion of individuals gathered in the congregation founded on faith and obedience, while both are blessed with the power of love. It is true and is easy to understand that life that is directed by the given talent as a life purpose for the love toward One who sent you to do it and for devoted love for entire humanity as a fulfillment of first law to love your Great Creator and not only your neighbor but entire humanity to be like sun that shine from above for all and rain that comes for above for all as a HEAVENLY WISDOM An end I would like to hear from you about your opinion and suggestion in order to further improve that given program suggested from many and for goodness for entire humanity.

Book A Path Called Alzheimer s

Download or read book A Path Called Alzheimer s written by Christine Leys and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-05-15 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering a raw, honest account of what it means on a practical level to love and care for a spouse with Alzheimer’s Disease, A Path Called Alzheimer’s, by author Christine Leys, gives unflinching witness to losses that come relentlessly and to exhaustion that define her days. It records her conversations with the God she loves and trusts, who walks with her every step of the way. He doesn’t make the road of caregiving easy, but he does answer prayer and provide strength when all human strength is spent. Churches sometimes struggle with knowing how to support members with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. As the disease progresses, these people are often more and more hidden. A Path Called Alzheimer’s brings them out of the shadows, helping people better understand the needs of those living with Alzheimer’s and the care they need. Leys shares a story of struggle and loss, but also a love story. It’s the story of a spouse’s love for her husband that persists even when she sees little of the man she married in the shell of his body. It’s the story of her love for her Lord who is her companion on the journey. But more importantly, it’s the story of God’s love and care for both, a love that gives meaning to the journey.

Book Peer assisted Learning

Download or read book Peer assisted Learning written by Keith Topping and published by Routledge. This book was released on 1998-07-01 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) involves children in school consciously assisting others to learn, and in so doing learning more effectively themselves. It encompasses peer tutoring, peer modeling, peer education, peer counseling, peer monitoring, and peer assessment, which are differentiated from other more general "co-operative learning" methods. PAL is not diluted or surrogate "teaching"; it complements and supplements (but never replaces) professional teaching--capitalizing on the unique qualities and richness of peer interaction and helping students become empowered democratically to take more responsibility for their own learning. In this book, PAL is presented as a set of dynamic, robust, effective, and flexible approaches to teaching and learning, which can be used in a range of different settings. The chapters provide descriptions of good practice blended with research findings on effectiveness. They describe procedures that can be applied to all areas of the school curriculum, and can be used with learners of all levels of ability, including gifted students, students with disabilities, and second-language learners. Among the distinguished contributors, many are from North America, while others are from Europe and Australia. The applicability of the methods they present is worldwide. Peer-Assisted Learning is designed to be accessible and useful to teachers and to those who employ, train, support, consult with, and evaluate them. Many chapters will be helpful to teachers aiming to replicate in their own school environments the cost-effective procedures described. A practical resources guide is included. This volume will also be of interest to faculty and researchers in the fields of education and psychology, to community educators who want to learn about the implications of Peer Assisted Learning beyond school contexts, and to employers and others involved in post-school training.
