DOI: 10. 1007/s11159-008-9097-9 Springer Science+Business Media B. V. 2008 The papers in this collection have been selected from over 800 presentations given at the XIIIth World Congress of Comparative Education Societies, held at the University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 3 to 7 September 2007. The Congress was hosted on behalf of the WCCES by the Mediterranean Society of Comparative Education and in association with the International Association of Intercultural Education. For such an int- national gathering, it was appropriate that the theme chosen was ‘‘Living Together: Education and Intercultural Dialogue’’, providing scope for c- tributions by participating scholars, policy makers and practitioners in e- cation from some 70 countries. The presenters approached contemporary educational issues with knowledge and insights about a world characterized by the tensions and demands of global and local interests, by regional c- ?icts and post-con?ict deliberations, and by the global diaspora, with c- tural, religious and linguistic diversity within both small and large states. Only a very few papers could be included for this collection, but they rep- sent some of the key topics under discussion during the Congress. The papers were selected from the recommendations of the convenors of the 13 Thematic Groups, the keynote addresses and several symposia.
Download or read book Shame 4 0 written by Claude-Hélène Mayer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-21 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume provides new perspectives on how shame is experienced and transformed within digital worlds and Industry 4.0. The editors and authors discuss how individuals and organisations can constructively transform shame at work, in professional and private contexts, and with regard to socio-cultural lifestyle changes, founded in digitalisation and Industry 4.0. The contributions in this volume enable researchers and practitioners alike to unlock the topic of shame and its specifics in the highly dynamic and rapidly changing times to explore this emotion in depth in connection with remote workplaces, home office, automated realities and smart systems, or digitalised life- and working styles. By employing transdisciplinary and transcultural perspectives, the volume further discusses shame in the context of new lifestyles, religion, gender, sexual suppression, mental illness, and the nature of citizenship. Researchers, practitioners and students in the fields of industrial and organisational psychology, positive psychology, organisational studies, future studies, health and occupational science and therapy, emotion sciences, management, leadership and human resources will find the contributions highly topical, insightful and applicable to practice. Fresh, timely, thought-provoking with each turn of the page, this impressive volume explores shame in today’s world. Moving beyond the simple “guilt is good; shame is bad” perspective, authors from diverse disciplines examine adaptive and maladaptive aspects of shame in the context of contemporary issues (e.g., social media use, COVID-19) via multiple cultural and social lenses. Aptly named, Shame 4.0 is a treasure trove of rich ideas ripe for empirical study – a blueprint for the next generation of research on this complex and ubiquitous emotion. Bravo! --June Tangney, PhD, University Professor and Professor of Psychology, George Mason University, USA Uncovering Shame - To a much greater extent than other emotions like anger, grief, and fear, until recently most shame in modern societies has been hidden from sight. The text you see in this book is one of the steps that is being taken to make it more visible and therefore controllable. -- Thomas Scheff, Prof. Emeritus Department of Sociology, UCSB, Santa Bararbara, Ca.

It then discusses innovative ways of hearing the views of students, pre-service teachers and teachers, featuring a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The concluding commentaries from North American investigators provide a further international perspective from another region where much progress in researching these areas has been made. Download or read book Bullying written by José Ramón Ubieto and published by NED Ediciones. This book was released on 2016-01-15 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Discriminatory Bullying written by Esoh Elamé and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-20 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the relation between bullying at school and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and disability. In examining the interactions between bullying and discrimination, the authors set out from the premise that the current practice of intercultural education does not systematically address the issue of bullying, as evidenced by the lack, within schools, of intercultural education projects. The starting point for the work is a survey conducted in ten European countries on a sample of about 9,000 students including immigrants and natives. The research provides important information on which factors deserve special attention when formulating interventions in the classroom with the aim of preventing or combating discriminatory bullying. If intercultural education is called upon to handle the fight against any form of discrimination, it cannot shirk from addressing the issue of bullying discrimination. The results represent a sound, stimulating basis for broad and realistic reflections on discriminatory bullying and intercultural education, and show that intercultural pedagogy needs to be appropriately equipped theoretically. This book will be an indispensable tool for those seeking a thorough understanding of the new challenges facing intercultural education and the means of overcoming them. On that basis, innovative education practices should be developed with the aim of spreading a culture of non-violence and intercultural dialogue.
Download or read book The blue pill written by Fabio De Dominicis and published by Fabio De Dominicis. This book was released on 2024-08-22 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever considered a modern society without money, barter or lies? A society without passing grades, failing school years, or university exams? A society where companies do not force you to an interview to hire you and to have a professional career with the pressure of a boss asking you for impossible performance, to reach goals and overcome a competitor? In the end, economics and education go together with politics. We say politicians do not keep their promises or talk without saying anything. Can we make them stop, finally? How could we reduce crime and violence and make our justice more effective for offenders and victims? The book addresses all these questions and more with the hope of fueling the debate to improve Western society. Do you want to participate too?
Download or read book Decreasing School Violence Bullying and Delinquency With Epistemic Inclusion written by Mechi, Aneta and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-12-18 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When asked what inclusion means, most people immediately think about relatedness: being accepted by a group or having the opportunity to belong. However, there are multiple needs for inclusivity that one goes in search of including self-integrity. If any stimuli threatens this integrity, a person may struggle to recover it, even if the price is to become the best gang leader, to follow the principle that it is better to be the leader of the dunces than to have the reputation of a “good for nothing.” Individuals may suffer from unrecognition and thus avoid a situation in which they would be perceived as incompetent, especially when their potential has been previously ignored. This pain has often been accompanied by verbal aggression, violence, delinquency, or other criminal activities because of the need to show, at any cost, that they are skilled somewhere, even if it is a socially depreciated area. This theory has shown itself in school violence and students who partake in bullying, criminal acts, and delinquency. But giving individuals the opportunity to develop and display their competence keeps them related to pro-social behavior instead of pushing them to excel in anti-social settings. Decreasing School Violence, Bullying, and Delinquency With Epistemic Inclusion identifies which factors lead to prosocial behavior, why people start to behave antisocially, and how simple actions can change others’ visions and goals in both positive and negative ways. This book employs the theory of epistemic inclusion in educational settings and how to increase it. Divided into four sections, this book covers the importance of finding a solution for violence, bullying, and delinquency; what epistemic inclusion is; how schools can make epistemic inclusion work; and implementing procedures. This book is a valuable reference tool for in-service and preservice teachers, administrators, psychologists, therapists, counselors, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students interested in how the theory of epistemic inclusion can be implemented in educational settings.
