Download or read book HAPPY HANDLING written by Jolein Van Weperen and published by Dogwise Publishing. This book was released on 2015-05-06 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jolein formulated classic ideas in a way really drive the point home to the layman. Some were so good that we are going to quote her in future theory seminars.

Here are some examples:
• The self-control of your dog depends on your own self-control.
• Selfishness is the motivation behind nearly every behavior.
• Each time you repeat a command, put a dollar in a jam jar.
• (about the ‘watch me’ exercise) If your dog is not looking at you, see it as feedback from your dog.

What experts are saying about Happy Handling!:
The publication of ‘Happy Handling’ is a milestone in (Dutch) dog training. The methods are factually sound, ethically responsible, and practically focused. Every Dutch trainer in charge of putting together a dog school curriculum needs to have read it.With its attempt at making a best-of-breed trainer out of every client, the book occasionally flirts with idealism. But hey, if you need a point of reference to build your curriculum, best you start too perfect than the other way round, right?Jolein is a beacon for modern dog training in The Netherlands. Her fair, effective and rational methods reflect the gold practices of force-free training. De Laar has become a home away from home for evidence-based trainers from all over the world. In this book, Jolein shares her years of field experience and gargantuan knowledge with trainers and owners alike for generations of well-adjusted and polite dogs. I would love to see more books by Jolein van Weperen.

When Cat Warren adopted Solo, an unruly German shepherd puppy, she soon began to wonder what she'd let herself in for. Solo's boundless energy was what made him loveable -- but it also made him exhausting, and difficult to train. Then she struck upon an idea: what Solo needed was something to do. Like many dogs, Solo was destined to work: using his nose to help the police locate missing people. In this lively, accessible book, Warren details Solo's journey from troublesome pup to expert cadaver dog, and explores the fascinating hidden world of animals that do essential work and the handlers who train them.

Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller REVISED WITH NEW MATIERAL Winner of the 2014 Living Now Book Award for Inspirational Memoir "An enormously smart, clear-eyed, brave-hearted, and quite personal look at the benefits of meditation." —Elizabeth Gilbert Nightline anchor Dan Harrisembarks on an unexpected, hilarious, and deeply skeptical odyssey through the strange worlds of spirituality and self-help, and discovers a way to get happier that is truly achievable. After having a nationally televised panic attack, Dan Harris knew he had to make some changes. A lifelong nonbeliever, he found himself on a bizarre adventure involving a disgraced pastor, a mysterious self-help guru, and a gaggle of brain scientists. Eventually, Harris realized that the source of his problems was the very thing he always thought was his greatest asset: the incessant, insatiable voice in his head, which had propelled him through the ranks of a hypercompetitive business, but had also led him to make the profoundly stupid decisions that provoked his on-air freak-out. Finally, Harris stumbled upon an effective way to rein in that voice, something he always assumed to be either impossible or useless: meditation, a tool that research suggests can do everything from lower your blood pressure to essentially rewire your brain. 10% Happier takes readers on a ride from the outer reaches of neuroscience to the inner sanctum of network news to the bizarre fringes of America’s spiritual scene, and leaves them with a takeaway that could actually change their lives.

The Death of Jeffrey Stapleton is based on, introduces and illustrates a technically sound, testable and easy to demonstrate explanation of how people think and act that lays a foundation for psychology to become a natural science rather than merely an art. The book shows that an understanding the phenomenon of control provides an explanation for the way people behave, what behavior is, how it works, and what it accomplishes. This has profound implications for litigation where psychology is involved.

Book The Way the Money Goes

  • Author : Christopher Hood
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2023-10-19
  • ISBN : 0198865082
  • Pages : 305 pages

Download or read book The Way the Money Goes written by Christopher Hood and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-10-19 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Way the Money Goes traces out what happened to the UK's fiscal constitution - the framework for planning and controlling public spending - under three different governments (Conservative, Labour, Conservative/Liberal Democrat) from the early 1990s to the mid-2010s. The book tells the story of what happened under each government and combines narrative with vignettes that range from the funding of a new Treasury building to efforts to 'crowdsource' ideas for spending cuts. It also includes chapters devoted to different domains of spending control, namely capital spending, spending by subnational governments, running cost expenditure, fiscal forecasting, and the development of new accounting metrics. This book is based on over 120 in-depth interviews of civil servants and ministers who were involved in public spending over the period, as well as documents from the same timeframe. It explores how and why, despite much talk of change and reform in everything from parliamentary procedure to bureaucratic processes, many of the underlying features of the UK's fiscal constitution persisted, including arrangements for formula-funding of the different countries within the union designed as a temporary stopgap in the transition to devolution. To put UK developments into perspective, the book includes a discussion of how the UK system was rated in reports from international bodies over the period, which suggests that in such exercises the more 'political' parts of the fiscal constitution were rated differently from the more 'technocratic' parts. Given several volcanic-type political eruptions in the UK over recent years, the book concludes by exploring some different possible scenarios for the future of its fiscal constitution in the light of those and other possible eruptions to come.
