Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "HANG IN THERE LIKE HAIR IN A BISCUIT¿ is the first book written by Brad Bradford. Growing up in the red clay of north Alabama during the sixties, he began getting his education in the game of life at an early age. He was able to overcome adversity and a serious eye injury and turn it into an unbelievable inspirational story. Brad actually sold chicken stew door to door out of the trunk of his 1959 Edsel to help pay for his college education. Following graduation from the University of Alabama, he began his journey through the coaching ranks. His leadership as a head football coach at age twenty-eight was phenomenal. He led his high school team to nineteen wins in two years in spite of having only twenty-one players on the team. His dream job at the University of Alabama soon followed. Coach Bradford was selected as the director of Bryant Hall Athletic Dorm and later served as the football recruiting coordinator at his alma mater. When Alabama¿s head coach took a job in the NFL, Brad was married with two boys less than three years of age and out of a job. Never one to give up on his dreams and goals, he joined the University of Louisville football staff as a graduate assistant coach MAKING TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY DOLLARS A MONTH. In less than six months, he became a full time assistant, coach for the running backs and served as the recruiting coordinator. He was named by the media as one of the ¿Best Recruiters in the Nation.¿ Once, seven of the eleven starters on the offensive team were recruited and signed by Brad Bradford. Shortly after the 1994 season, history repeated itself. The head football coach took another job and again, Brad was without a job. Instead of feeling sorry for himself, he decided to take on a new challenge and opportunity. A financial planning firm in Alabama selected him as the executive director where he grew the company from 1.5 million dollars in volume to over 70 million in less than seven years. He is now president of his own company, Bradford Consulting Group. In addition to his popularity as a professional speaker, he is an accomplished bluegrass musician. Brad currently resides in Destin, Florida.
Download or read book When Someone You Know Has Depression written by Susan J. Noonan and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2016-06 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Following on the success of Managing Your Depression, Susan Noonan's new book is for family members and friends of people with depression or bipolar disorder. A certified peer specialist at McLean Hospital (a comprehensive psychiatric hospital affiliated with Harvard University), Susan draws on her experiences providing support and education for those living with or caring for a person who has a mood disorder. A family member who has a mood disorder affects the entire family. Further, family members and close friends are often the first to recognize the subtle changes and symptoms of depression--and they are also the people who provide daily support to their loved ones, often at great personal price. Caring for someone with a mood disorder differs from caring for someone with a physical medical disorder, in ways that complicate the caregiving role. A concise and practical guide to the daily management of depression and bipolar depression written for the caregiver, the book explains how to reinforce lessons the patient has been taught in therapy, how to role model resilience skills, and how caregivers can and must care for themselves. It describes effective communication strategies and advises how to find appropriate professional help. Its many tables and worksheets convey much needed information in an accessible way. References, Resources, and a Glossary complete the package. Overall the book helps readers navigate the depression or biopolar disorder of someone close to them, providing readers with words to say and things to do as they try to help someone change the course of a sometimes confounding and often disabling illness"--
Download or read book How to Hang a Witch written by Adriana Mather and published by Ember. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The #1 New York Times bestseller! It’s the Salem Witch Trials meets Mean Girls in this New York Times bestselling novel from one of the descendants of Cotton Mather, where the trials of high school start to feel like a modern-day witch hunt for a teen with all the wrong connections to Salem’s past. Salem, Massachusetts, is the site of the infamous witch trials and the new home of Samantha Mather. Recently transplanted from New York City, Sam and her stepmother are not exactly welcomed with open arms. Sam is the descendant of Cotton Mather, one of the men responsible for those trials—and almost immediately, she becomes the enemy of a group of girls who call themselves the Descendants. And guess who their ancestors were? If dealing with that weren’t enough, Sam also comes face to face with a real, live (well, technically dead) ghost. A handsome, angry ghost who wants Sam to stop touching his stuff. But soon Sam discovers she is at the center of a centuries-old curse affecting anyone with ties to the trials. Sam must come to terms with the ghost and find a way to work with the Descendants to stop a deadly cycle that has been going on since the first accused witch was hanged. If any town should have learned its lesson, it’s Salem. But history may be about to repeat itself. “It’s like Mean Girls meets history class in the best possible way.” —Seventeen Magazine “Mather shines a light on the lessons the Salem Witch Trials can teach us about modern-day bullying—and what we can do about it.” —Bustle “Strikes a careful balance of creepy, fun, and thoughtful.” —NPR I am utterly addicted to Mather’s electric debut. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, twisting and turning with ghosts, witches, an ancient curse, and—sigh—romance. It’s beautiful. Haunting. The characters are vivid and real. I. Could. Not. Put. It. Down.” —Jennifer Niven, bestselling author of All the Bright Places

Download or read book How to Hang a Picture written by Jason Sacher and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like tying a Windsor knot or brewing a perfect cup of coffee, knowing how to hang art on your wall is a hallmark of everyday style and nuts-and-bolts know-how. The where, what, and whys of hanging art are an overlooked, under-appreciated line of inquiry. Most of us simply wing it with a quick eyeball and a swing of the hammer. How hard can it be? we think. What can go wrong? The answer, of course, is plenty: crumbling plaster, ruined antique laths, mismatched art hung too-close together, or a poorly-mounted photograph warping in its frame. But beyond the technical mishaps, there is a more essential lesson to be learned: The skill and consideration with which you decorate your home makes an aesthetic statement about the world you inhabit-and more importantly, when it's done right, it very clearly looks a whole lot better. Slim and stylish, How to Hang a Picture: And Other Essential Lessons for a Stylish Home is a user-friendly guidebook that details everything you need to know about hanging, framing, decorating and displaying art. If Strunk & White's Elements of Style was crossed with a no-nonsense how-to manual, you will have captured the tone and immediacy of How to Hang a Picture: simple rules and essential information presented with charm and intelligence.

Book excerpt: A heartwarming story about three siblings, evacuated from London to live in the countryside, looking for a permanent home--and a new meaning for family. A New York Public Library Best Book of the Year It is 1940 and William, 12, Edmund, 11, and Anna, 9, aren't terribly upset by the death of the not-so-grandmotherly grandmother who has taken care of them since their parents died. But the children do need a guardian, and in the dark days of World War II London, those are in short supply, especially if they hope to stay together. Could the mass wartime evacuation of children from London to the countryside be the answer? It's a preposterous plan, but off they go-- keeping their predicament a secret, and hoping to be placed in a temporary home that ends up lasting forever. Moving from one billet to another, the children suffer the cruel trickery of foster brothers, the cold realities of outdoor toilets and the hollowness of empty stomachs. But at least they find comfort in the village lending library-- a cozy shelter from the harshness of everyday life, filled with favorite stories and the quiet company of Nora Müller, the kind librarian. The children wonder if Nora could be the family they've been searching for. . . . But the shadow of the war, and the unknown whereaouts of Nora's German husband complicate matters. A Place to Hang the Moon is a story about the importance of family: the one you're given, and the one you choose. Filled with rich, sensory prose, allusions to classic children's stories like A Little Princess, Mary Poppins, and The Story of Ferdinand, this cozy tale with a classic feel is sure to warm your heart. Don't miss Kate Albus's Nothing Else But Miracles which takes place in New York City during WWII and was described as "historical fiction at its finest" in a starred review from School Library Journal. Book excerpt: George Orwell set out 'to make political writing into an art', and to a wide extent this aim shaped the future of English literature. While 1984 and Animal Farm are amongst the most popular classic novels of all time, this new series of his essays seeks to bring his writing on politics and literature to a new readership. A Hanging, the ninth in the Orwell's Essays series, tells the story of the execution of an unnamed convict in Burma. With the veracity of the story unknown, but thought to be loosely based on Orwell's own experiences in Burma, the haunting tale leaves the reader contemplating the heavy topic of colonialism, and the right of one to take the life of another.
