Download or read book How to Hang a Picture written by Jay Sacher and published by St. Martin's Griffin. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like tying a Windsor knot or brewing a perfect cup of coffee, knowing how to hang art on your wall is a hallmark of everyday style and nuts-and-bolts know-how. The where, what, and whys of hanging art are an overlooked, under-appreciated line of inquiry. Most of us simply wing it with a quick eyeball and a swing of the hammer. How hard can it be? we think. What can go wrong? The answer, of course, is plenty: crumbling plaster, ruined antique laths, mismatched art hung too-close together, or a poorly-mounted photograph warping in its frame. But beyond the technical mishaps, there is a more essential lesson to be learned: The skill and consideration with which you decorate your home makes an aesthetic statement about the world you inhabit-and more importantly, when it's done right, it very clearly looks a whole lot better. Slim and stylish, How to Hang a Picture: And Other Essential Lessons for a Stylish Home is a user-friendly guidebook that details everything you need to know about hanging, framing, decorating and displaying art. If Strunk & White's Elements of Style was crossed with a no-nonsense how-to manual, you will have captured the tone and immediacy of How to Hang a Picture: simple rules and essential information presented with charm and intelligence.

Download or read book Fun at the Telephone Company written by Chuck Bozue and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-05 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During my lifetime, I noted that people, particularly men, love to tell stories about their life experiences. If you know a fireman or policeman well enough, you know that they can entertain for hours by relating their on-the-job experiences. Even mundane occupations are settings for good stories. Having worked at a telephone company for thirty-two years, I had my share of experiences. I share them with my friends and family. Sooner or later, someone suggested writing a book. Not a classic, but rather one of those bathroom novels loaded with short stories. Thats what you will find here. However bizarre, they are all true. Of course the names were changed to protect my buddies and me who did and said some incredibly stupid and sometimes dangerous things. In some cases, the company policies and procedures I write about may not be depicted as they actually were. Ive attempted to depict them as the field foremen, technicians, and I perceived them. You will have many laughs and more than a few Ive been there moments along the way. The telephone company wasnt my whole life, so I threw in a few personal and family stories along the way. Hopefully between work and home, these stories will give you background on the real telephone company and also a seemingly directionless individual who was successful because of both.
Download or read book Hang the DJ written by Angus Cargill and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2009-10-20 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literary equivalent of a great dive bar jukebox--inspiring, provocative, irresistible, and the perfect gift for all music lovers. At the heart of all music fetishes, there are lists: ten essential female murder ballads, ten unsettling songs for a midwestern white guy to wake to from a coma, ten smutty Bob Dylan moments, and of course the ever-popular staple of all music lists (and listeners)--ten best breakup songs. Hang the DJ compiles what contributors might once have scribbled in the back of their textbooks or school folders, when they--like all of us at one point--were absolutely sure that they alone were the sole guardians of Musical Truth; that Sparks' number two hit, "This Town Ain't Big Enough for the Both of Us," really should have made it to the number one spot, that Gary Numan was merely a misshapen progeny of Bowie's Thin White Duke persona, that female singer-songwriters are better than their male equivalents. Mixing anecdote, humor, reference, and sheer dorkiness--but with the bizarre insight of an anthropological study in pop-culture protocol--Hang the DJ is a collection of lists about musical loves, hates, dreams, and nightmares from music-lovers such as Rick Moody, Jonathan Lethem, Simon Reynolds, Ali Smith, Amanda Petrusich, and many other bloggers, journalists, novelists, poets, and musicians.
