Book Handbook of Handguns

Download or read book Handbook of Handguns written by Jeffrey Strickland and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-04-25 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In light of the 2nd Amendment debates, shooting may become the national passtime. To act responsibly within the 2nd Amendment, means knowing how to properly "bear arms". Knowing involves understanding firearm types, firearm operation, ammunition, internal ballistics, and shooting. These require training, especially shooting. Whether you own or plan to own a handgun for recreation, competition, or self-defense, training is of the utmost importance. When you fire a projectile (bullet) from a firearm, you are responsible for where it goes. You need to understand how fast it travels, how far it can travel, and how accurate your firearm is in delivering the projectile to your intended target. Yes, bearing arms is a right, but not one to be taken lightly. Firing a handgun is a grave responsibility and must be done correctly and with a full understanding of all the components that make up "shooting".

Download or read book Fighting Handguns written by Jeff Cooper and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-01 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Fighting Handguns, author Jeff Cooper not only takes the reader through the development of this weapon from its beginnings in mid-16th-century Europe through the various iterations of single- and double-action revolvers and semiautomatic pistols, he also discusses some important aspects of carrying and shooting a fighting handgun under combat conditions. “For good or ill, man is a fighting animal. While most feel that this is an unmitigated evil, it may, like most aspects of nature, have its positive side. Certainly man’s combative nature is responsible for most of the massive tragedy of history, but it’s possible that history of any sort just wouldn’t have happened had it not been characteristic of the race to struggle against its environment. And man’s environment, of course, includes man. A placid, gentle, contented creature—a koala, for instance—is nice to contemplate but does not progress, and if it encounters a challenge it simply dies. Whether progress, at the price of a fighting disposition, is worth it is a question, but it’s a bit on the academic side. Man is the way he is, and gets along as he must. Being human, we are involved in strife. Much as we may deplore this, we must master the techniques of strife or perish. “This book is devoted to one of these techniques—the one-hand firearm as used by man against man.”—Jeff Cooper

Book Policing and Boundaries in a Violent Society

Download or read book Policing and Boundaries in a Violent Society written by Guy Lamb and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-01-31 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how social and territorial boundaries have influenced the approaches and practices of the South Africa Police Service (SAPS). By means of a historical analysis of South Africa, this book introduces a new concept, ‘police frontierism’, which illuminates the nature of the relationships between the police, policing and boundaries, and can potentially be used for future case study research. Drawing on a wealth of research, this book examines how social and territorial boundaries strongly influenced police practices and behaviour in South Africa, and how social delineations amplify and distort existing police prejudices against those communities on the other side of the boundary. Focusing on cases of high-density police operations, public-order policing and the recent policing of the COVID-19 lockdown, this book argues that poor economic conditions combined with an increased militarisation of the SAPS and a decline in public trust in the police will result in boundaries continuing to fundamentally inform police work in South Africa. This book will be of interest to scholars and students interested in policing in post-colonial societies characterised by high levels of violence, as well as police work and police militarization.

Book Guns Gun Control and Elections

Download or read book Guns Gun Control and Elections written by Harry L. Wilson and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2007 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gun-related violence remains an intractable problem despite a decline in the past decade. Some believe the solution lies in stricter gun control laws while others think these measures would be ineffective or counter-productive. Guns, Gun Control, and Elections examines current gun control policy and explains how it was adopted by discussing the roles and interactions of elected officials, interest groups, political parties, and the public. Original research on media coverage and public opinion as well as a chapter on state policy (Virginia) make the book both informative and accessible. The book focuses on the utility of gun policy, and its discussion of policy impact is grounded in real-world politics. Wilson also highlights the importance of gun control in the Presidential elections of 2000 and 2004 as well as in some U.S. Senate and statewide campaigns.

Book Hand Guns Concealed Carry Gun Laws Other Concerns and Things You Should Know

Download or read book Hand Guns Concealed Carry Gun Laws Other Concerns and Things You Should Know written by Hammond Satterfield and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-06-27 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My purpose and hope in writing this book about Handguns, Concealed Carry, and Legal Concerns is to impart to you knowledge to save you money. An even more important goal is to save you potenti al heartache; and most critical, to encourage you to protect your life and that of your loved ones. "Why and how," you ask? First, The Need: The FBI reported, "In 2010 there was a burglary every 15 seconds." One in fi ve women in a recent survey stated they had been a victi m of sexual assault. When resisting a criminal assault, an armed woman has a 400% better chance of escaping unharmed than an unarmed woman. Question: What's your plan? Just trust in Blind Luck? The Why: To purchase an inappropriate hand gun or two can cost hundreds of dollars. To run afoul of the law- that expense begins in the thousands of dollars. To be unarmed and unprepared to confront a violent att acker-that cost is incalculable. Remember: "Lightning and violence have one thing in common-they both strike somewhere." The How: There is no other single source, one volume book covering handguns, ammuniti on, holsters, maintenance, safes, safety, legal concerns, and miscreant misbehavior. This book is an effort to fill that void. If you are not certain that you need to know more, open the book to page IX and take a quick assessment of your knowledge. Thank you for giving me a look, and don't forget: "You make your choice and you take your chances."
