Book Handbook of the Physicochemical Properties of the Elements

Download or read book Handbook of the Physicochemical Properties of the Elements written by Gregory V. Samsonov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 953 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American edition of this handbook contains concise informa tion on the basic physical properties of the elements and on their chem ical characteristics. In general, the data selected for inclusion in the handbook are those which either agree well with calculated data (in those cases where calculations could be carried out) or satisfy various correlations, particularly those based on concepts of the distribution of valence electrons of isolated atoms in the formation of a condensed state, as electrons localized at atomic ions in the form of energetically stable configurations, and as nonlocalized electrons. The Russian edition was published in the USSR in 1965, and new or previously omitted data have been added to all the sections of the present edition. In addition, the authors have considered it necessary to include a series of new sections. Thus, a new table has been included, "Electronic Configurations and Ground States of Free Atoms and Their Ions," since, in the ionization of some atoms (particularly for transition metals), the electrons are not always abstracted from the outer shell, and, consequently, calculation of the ground state (electron energy level) using the usual vector model does not give a direct result. The ground states are obtained experimentally and the table contains the corresponding data on the configurations and states of triply-ionized atoms (which is usually sufficient).

Book Handbook of Physical Chemical Properties and Environmental Fate for Organic Chemicals Second Edition

Download or read book Handbook of Physical Chemical Properties and Environmental Fate for Organic Chemicals Second Edition written by Donald Mackay and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-03-14 with total page 1000 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport and transformation processes are key for determining how humans and other organisms are exposed to chemicals. These processes are largely controlled by the chemicals’ physical-chemical properties. This new edition of the Handbook of Physical-Chemical Properties and Environmental Fate for Organic Chemicals is a comprehensive series in four volumes that serves as a reference source for environmentally relevant physical-chemical property data of numerous groups of chemical substances. The handbook contains physical-chemical property data from peer-reviewed journals and other valuable sources on over 1200 chemicals of environmental concern. The handbook contains new data on the temperature dependence of selected physical-chemical properties, which allows scientists and engineers to perform better chemical assessments for climatic conditions outside the 20–25-degree range for which property values are generally reported. This second edition of the Handbook of Physical-Chemical Properties and Environmental Fate for Organic Chemicals is an essential reference for university libraries, regulatory agencies, consultants, and industry professionals, particularly those concerned with chemical synthesis, emissions, fate, persistence, long-range transport, bioaccumulation, exposure, and biological effects of chemicals in the environment. This resource is also available on CD-ROM

Book The Chemistry of the Metallic Elements

Download or read book The Chemistry of the Metallic Elements written by David J. Steele and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-05-04 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of the Metallic Elements provides a concise yet comprehensive discussion of the structural principles of metallic elements. The book also provides tables that layout the data concerning the more common metals and their compounds. The text first covers the general information about the metallic elements, such as their physical properties, chemical properties, occurrence, and extraction. The subsequent chapters detail the elements and their compounds in context to their structure, and position in the periodic table and in the electrochemical series. The book will be of great use to researchers and practitioners of chemistry and chemical engineering.

Book CRC Handbook of Applied Thermodynamics

Download or read book CRC Handbook of Applied Thermodynamics written by David A. Palmer and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical handbook features an overview of the importance of physical properties and thermodynamics; and the use of thermo-dynamics to predict the extent of reaction in proposed new chem-ical combinations. The use of special types of data and pre-diction methods to develop flowsheets for probing projects; and sources of critically evaluated data, dividing the published works into three categories depending on quality are given. Methods of doing one's own critical evaluation of literature, a list of known North American contract experimentalists with the types of data mea-sured by each, methods for measuring equilibrium data, and ther-modynamic concepts to carry out process opti-mization are also featured.

Book The World of Elements and Their Properties

Download or read book The World of Elements and Their Properties written by Lynn Van Gorp and published by Teacher Created Materials. This book was released on 2007-08-03 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are 90 different elements, like the oxygen that we breathe, that can be found in nature. When two or more elements combine, they are held together by a chemical bond and form a compound. In 1869, chemist Dmitri Mendeléev organized the elements into a chart that is known as the Periodic Table of Elements.

Book Handbook of Electrochemistry

Download or read book Handbook of Electrochemistry written by Cynthia G. Zoski and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-02-07 with total page 935 pages. The first section covers the fundamentals of electrochemistry which are essential for everyone working in the field, presenting an overview of electrochemical conventions, terminology, fundamental equations, and electrochemical cells, experiments, literature, textbooks, and specialized books. Part 2 focuses on the different laboratory aspects of electrochemistry which is followed by a review of the various electrochemical techniques ranging from classical experiments to scanning electrochemical microscopy, electrogenerated chemiluminesence and spectroelectrochemistry. Applications of electrochemistry include electrode kinetic determinations, unique aspects of metal deposition, and electrochemistry in small places and at novel interfaces and these are detailed in Part 4. The remaining three chapters provide useful electrochemical data and information involving electrode potentials, diffusion coefficients, and methods used in measuring liquid junction potentials. * serves as a source of electrochemical information * includes useful electrochemical data and information involving electrode potentials, diffusion coefficients, and methods used in measuring liquid junction potentials * reviews electrochemical techniques (incl. scanning electrochemical microscopy, electrogenerated chemiluminesence and spectroelectrochemistry)
