Succinct text covers key identification features, voice, habitat, and distribution, and distribution maps are provided for regular breeding species. Particular attention and details are given to help differentiate similar-looking species. Book Handbook of the Birds of Europe the Middle East And North Africa

Download or read book Handbook of the Birds of Europe the Middle East And North Africa written by Stephen Cramp and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1994-06-28 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This beautifully illustrated and authoritative eight-volume reference work is the most comprehensive guide to the birds of the Western Paleartic available. Taking into account the great advances made in ornithology since the publication of the seminal Handbook of British Birds (1941)--which for many years provided the foundation on which the field was built--the eight volumes together will contain descriptions of over 760 species of birds, of which about 600 are breeding species. Each breeding species is described in detail in sections devoted to field characteristics, habitat, distribution, mortality and longevity, population (with maps showing breeding and wintering areas), social pattern and behavior, breeding, food, voice, plumages, moults, measurements, weights, structure, and geographical variation. Regular migration and accidental species are treated under these headings where relevant. Each volume also contains specially-commissioned color plates of each species which show the full range of normal plumage together with more distant flight views. In addition, color plates of eggs, black-and-white illustrations, and many text-figures showing display postures, voice sonograms and melograms, and annual cycles, are included. All of these features combine to make the Handbook an indispensable reference work for both the professional scientist and the ever-growing body of amateur ornithologists.

Book excerpt: This entirely new and authoritative work of reference contains descriptions of over 770 species. The crows, jays, ravens, starlings, sparrows, weavers and finches of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa are included, with sections on field characters, habitat, distribution, mortality, population (with maps showing breeding and watering areas), movements, food, social pattern and behaviour, breeding, voice, plumages, moults, measurements, weight, structure, and geographical variation. Regular migrants and accidental species are also covered. For many years the Handbook of British Birds (published in 1938-41), provided the basis on which UK ornithological research was built. This new book has been planned to cover the great advances that have been made in ornithological knowledge since then, and in particular takes account of the factthat ornithologists now work on a wider geographical basis. All Europe is included, together with the Middle East to Turkey, Iraq and Jordan, and Africa south to approximately 19 N. is refl

Book Taxonomy of the birds of the world

Download or read book Taxonomy of the birds of the world written by fotolulu and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 701 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you come up with the idea to list all the birds in the world including the subspecies and to give all birds English names? There is a reason for it - my favorite saying, whose author is unknown: "Everyone said that ́s not possible - then there was one who did not know that and just did it!" I am an animal photographer and probably a little bit crazy. Ive built a complete animal database for mammals and birds over the last decade. This facilitates my work in determining and archiving images and assigning keywords, especially among the many subspecies. With this book, I would like to give all birding friends and ornithologists a complete overview in English. For this I have given unique English names to all subspecies. The naming should not meet any scientific requirements. The names are based on translations from the Latin name, geographical distribution areas and the names of the discoverers. The entries consist of the scientific name, the English name, the distribution areas and the author. I wish you a lot of fun with this book, but especially while watching the fascinating birdlife. fotolulu
