Download or read book Handbook of Tropical Residual Soils Engineering written by Bujang B.K. Huat and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-05-24 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Residual soils are found in many parts of the world. Like other soils, they are used extensively in construction, either to build upon, or as construction material. They are formed when the rate of rock weathering is more rapid than transportation of the weathered particles by e.g., water, gravity and wind, which results in a large share of the soils formed remaining in place. The soils typically retain many of the characteristics of the parent rock. In a tropical region, residual soil layers can be very thick, sometimes extending to hundreds of meters before reaching un-weathered rock. Unlike the more familiar transported sediment soil, the engineering properties and behaviour of tropical residual soils may vary widely from place to place depending upon the rock of origin and the local climate during their formation; and hence are more difficult to predict and model mathematically. Despite their abundance and significance our knowledge and understanding of these soils is not as extensive as that of transported sediment soil. Written by residual soil specialists from various parts of the world, this unique handbook presents data, knowledge and expertise on the subject. It provides insight into the engineering behaviour of tropical residual soils, which will be applicable to small or extensive construction works worldwide on such soils. This book covers almost all aspects of residual soils, from genesis, classification, formation, sampling and testing to behaviour of weakly bonded and unsaturated soil, volume change and shear strength. It features chapters on applications in slopes and foundation, as well as dedicated parts on residual soils in India, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. A large number of graphs, tables, maps and references throughout the text provide further detail and insight. This volume is intended as a reference guide for practitioners, researchers and advanced students in civil, construction and geological engineering. Unique in its coverage of the subject, it may serve as a standard that benefits every engineer involved in geological, foundation and construction work in tropical residual soils.
Download or read book Handbook of Polypropylene and Polypropylene Composites Revised and Expanded written by Harutun Karian and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-03-25 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the success of its predecessor with completely revised material and six new chapters, the Handbook of Polypropylene and Polypropylene Composites, Second Edition responds to increasing interest and changing global trends in the manufacture and application of polypropylene resin. The authors highlight viable options for the manufacture of polypropylene composites to better accommodate market requirements across various industries. The second edition introduces chapters on high-purity submicron talc fillers with lamellar microstructures, the utilization of Wollastonite fibers for polypropylene reinforcement, and updated material on nanocomposite production using exfoliated clay treated with maleated polypropylene-based materials, among many other topics.
Download or read book International Handbook of Blockchain Law written by Thomas Richter and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2024-08-14 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blockchain’s significant advances since 2020 – including a plethora of new use cases – have necessitated a comprehensive revision of the first edition of this matchless resource. While new chapters and topics have been added, the handbook still follows the systematic and structured approach of the first edition. Each contributor – all of them practitioners experienced with blockchain projects within their respective areas of expertise and specific jurisdictions – elucidates the implications of blockchain technology and related legal issues under such headings as the following: understanding blockchain from a technological point of view; regulatory aspects of blockchain; smart contracts; data privacy; capital markets; crypto asset regulation in Europe, the UK and the US; intellectual property; and antitrust law. The foundational chapter on the technical aspects of blockchain technology has been meticulously expanded to elucidate the proof of stake consensus mechanism alongside fresh insights into the ERC-721 Token Standard for non-fungible tokens, decentralized exchanges, staking, stablecoins, and central bank digital currencies. As blockchain law cements itself as a distinct legal field, this new edition is poised to be an invaluable asset for legal practitioners, in-house lawyers, IT professionals, consultancy firms, blockchain associations, and legal scholars. At a depth that allows non-IT experts to understand the groundwork for legal assessments, the handbook provides those charting the dynamic waters of this field of law with a compass, ensuring they are well-equipped to tackle the legal issues raised by the usage of blockchain technology.
Download or read book Supplement to the Handbook of Middle American Indians Volume 1 written by Victoria Reifler Bricker and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2014-01-07 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixteen-volume Handbook of Middle American Indians, completed in 1976, has been acclaimed the world over as the most valuable resource ever produced for those involved in the study of Mesoamerica. When it was determined in 1978 that the Handbook should be updated periodically, Victoria Reifler Bricker, well-known cultural anthropologist, was selected to be series editor. This first volume of the Supplement is devoted to the dramatic changes that have taken place in the field of archaeology. The volume editor, Jeremy A. Sabloff, has gathered together detailed reports from the directors of many of the most significant archaeological projects of the mid-twentieth century in Mesoamerica, along with discussions of three topics of general interest (the rise of sedentary life, the evolution of complex culture, and the rise of cities).

Download or read book Handbook of Large Hydro Generators written by Glenn Mottershead and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-12-22 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers comprehensive coverage of the operation and maintenance of large hydro generators This book is a practical handbook for engineers and maintenance staff responsible for the upkeep of large salient-pole hydro generators used in electric power plants. Focusing on the physics and maintenance of large vertical salient pole generators, it offers readers real-world experience, problem description, and solutions, while teaching them about the design, modernization, inspections, maintenance, and operation of salient pole machines. Handbook of Large Hydro Generators: Operation and Maintenance provides an introduction to the principles of operation of synchronous machines. It then covers design and construction, auxiliary systems, operation and control, and monitoring and diagnostics of generators. Generator protection, inspection practices and methodology and auxiliaries inspections are also examined. The final two chapters are dedicated to maintenance and testing, and maintenance philosophies, upgrades, and uprates. The handbook includes over 420 color photos and 180 illustrations, forms, and tables to complement the topics covered in the chapters. Written with a machine operator and inspector in mind, Handbook of Large Hydro Generators: Operation and Maintenance: Instructs readers how to perform complete machine inspections, understand what they are doing, and find solutions for any problems encountered Includes real-life, practical, field experiences so that readers can familiarize themselves with aspects of machine operation, maintenance, and solutions to common problems Benefits experienced and new power plant operators, generator design engineers and operations engineers. Is authored by industry experts who participated in the writing and maintenance of IEEE standards (IEEE C50.12 and C50.13) on the subject Handbook of Large Hydro Generators: Operation and Maintenance is an ideal resource for scientists and engineers whose research interest is in electromagnetic and energy conversion. It is also an excellent book for senior undergraduate and graduate students majoring in energy generation, and generator operation and maintenance.
