Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Handbook of Christian Doctrine Y revered instructor in Christian Theology, Alvah Hovey, D. D., LL. D., generously granted _me permission to use his Manual of Christian Theology in the construction of this handbook. His order and outline have been fol lowed, with such changes as the intent oi this vol ume seemed to require. The purpose of my work is to present the ele ments of Christian Doctrine in a form adapted to the classroom, and to the use of students who are be ginners in the synthetic studies of biblical truth or are seeking for substance of doctrine that may be believed. A. H. Strong, D. D., LL. D., president of Rochester Theological Seminary, has kindly given me liberty to quote freely from his latest the sev enth, edition of Systematic Theology. Much help has been derived from the work of Prof. Sam uel Harris, D. D., LL. D., entitled God the Creator and Lord of All, and from representatives of vari ous schools of thought. But the limits of this book do not allow an extended list of authors consulted, and to whom indebtedness is acknowledged. Download or read book A Manual of Christian Doctrine Classic Reprint written by John S. Banks and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-17 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Christian Doctrine The usefulness of theology is as little open to dispute as its legitimacy. It is necessary, not to ordinary Christians, but to Christian teachers and advocates. It is neither necessary nor possible that every one should be a lawyer, doctor, engineer but every one who aspires to one of these professions must have more than the empirical knowledge which suffices for ordinary life. Times like ours are the last in which Christian teachers can afford to dispense with accurate and complete knowledge. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Faith of the Gospel: A Manual of Christian Doctrine This history of the origin of the present book will explain its form. While attempting to go with fair thoroughness into the various questions raised, it does not profess to deal with them exhaustively, as a book written for the learned would. It assumes little in the reader besides an average English education and a devout mind. Recondite theological language is avoided. Terms are explained as they occur. It is hoped, therefore, that'the book may prove useful, not only to Teachers of the Divine Mysteries at the beginning of their studies, but to many private Chris tians also, who wish to have an intelligent grasp of their faith. Book Classical Christian Doctrine

Download or read book Classical Christian Doctrine written by Ronald E. Heine and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This clear and concise text helps readers grasp the doctrines of the Christian faith considered basic from the earliest days of Christianity. Ronald Heine, an internationally known expert on early Christian theology, developed this book from a course he teaches that has been refined through many years of classroom experience. Heine primarily uses the classical Christian doctrines of the Nicene Creed to guide students into the essentials of the faith. This broadly ecumenical work will interest students of church history or theology as well as adult Christian education classes in church settings. Sidebars identify major personalities and concepts, and each chapter concludes with discussion questions and suggestions for further reading.

Book Sidelights on Christian Doctrine Classic Reprint

Download or read book Sidelights on Christian Doctrine Classic Reprint written by James Orr and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sidelights on Christian Doctrine The Studies in this Volume are based upon Addresses on Christian Doctrine given at various Conferences and Bible Schools in America. This may explain the semi-popular character of the exposition, and some peculiarities in the style, which it has not been thought necessary to remove. Perhaps the less formal nature of the Studies will adapt them better to the needs of those whom technical works on theology might repel. The treatment makes no pretence at exhaustiveness, but probably it will be found that few points of real importance in theological study are left untouched. The work may therefore serve as an introduction to more elaborate handbooks on the Christian doctrines. It may serve to show what, in substance, theology is, to create an interest in its questions, and to remove some misconceptions as to its nature, necessity, and scope. In some degree, it may even be a contribution to the right apprehension of the Christian truth itself. These are days in which theology is at a discount. The cry is loud for "reconstruction" of Christian doctrines; for re-statement in terms of living thought. This book has little to offer in the way of novelties. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Instructions in Christian Doctrine Plan of Religious Instruction - It may be useful to mark out a plan for religious instruction such as, notwithstanding the varying circumstances of different schools, it will on the whole be useful to follow. For religious instruction to'be given efficiently, the children cannot be separated into fewer than three great divisions (l), The infants, 12a, children up to the age when they come to the use of reason; from that age to the age of nine or ten; and the elder and more advanced children. Each of these divisions will re quire instruction of a peculiar character. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Christian Doctrine of God Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Christian Doctrine of God Classic Reprint written by William Newton Clarke and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Christian Doctrine of God The work that was entrusted to me by the General Editors of the International Theological Library was simply the presentation of the conception of God that is characteristic of the Christian religion. I was not sent to search for God, but rather to report as well as I might what the Christian faith testifies concerning him. It has seemed to me that this single commission was enough for me to undertake, and I have attempted nothing more. No report of the literature of the subject will be found upon these pages, nor any quotation of other men's work, nor any controversy. It is the sole endeavour of the book to set forth the Christian doctrine of God for the present day: not the doctrine of the past, or of the future, but the thought of God that we may now entertain if we follow the leading of Jesus Christ the revealer. So far as I have the power, I have sought to be faithful both to the ancient light to the modern, and I have hoped that my presentation might bear reasonably well the tests of the present time. There are many ways of dealing with the vast and glorious theme, and certainly there must be room for a book that simply aims to show forth doctrine as Christian faith may receive it now. I have written in the full conviction that the light which Jesus Christ gives us upon God is the true light, and that God is such a Being as he inspires us to love and trust.
