Book Beach Like You Live Here

Download or read book Beach Like You Live Here written by Kristin Higgins and published by Long Lost Mango. This book was released on 2023-11-12 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Get away from the crowds and Beach Like You Live Here! I lived on Oahu from 2009 to 2023 and these are my favorite "local" beaches. I spend a lot of lunch hours at these beaches and have been taking visiting friends and family to them for years. They are always amazed that there are hardly ever any tourists and so grateful that they got to experience these "secret" special places! Unlike Waikiki or other well-known, popular beaches such as Lanikai, Hanauma, Sandys, Makapu'u, Sunset and Waimea Bay, my favorite beaches are usually pretty empty, especially on weekdays. While mostly unknown to tourists, you can easily reach all of them by public transport or rental car. The beaches recommended, which won't be found together on any other guide site, include detailed directions with maps and addresses, facilities (restrooms, showers, etc,) nearby food and drink options, nearby 'tie-in' activities with links. parking and bus stop info, lifeguards on-site or not, and loads of recent, personally taken photos. There is also a bonus section of tips that will be invaluable on your trip!

Book excerpt: A breathtaking celebration of Instagram's premier solo female travel community, featuring 200 striking photographs—most of them all-new—plus empowering messages and practical tips for solo travelers. “For those with passports full of stories, this book carries you away to every dreamy corner of the earth. I can’t stop flipping through these visually incandescent pages to see where I’m capable of traveling to next!”—Caila Quinn, The Bachelor contestant and lifestyle and travel influencer From backpackers in Peru to artists in Berlin to storytellers in Morocco, Dame Traveler celebrates the diversity and bravery of women from around the world who are not afraid to think (and live) outside the box. The revolutionary Dame Traveler Instagram account was founded by Nastasia Yakoub, who was born into a strict Chaldean-Middle Eastern community where women are expected to marry young and put aside other personal ambitions. But at the age of twenty, Nastasia embarked on a solo trip to South Africa to volunteer at an orphanage in Cape Town, which sparked a love of world travel. Recognizing a void in the travel industry, she founded Dame Traveler, the first female travel community on Instagram, now more than half a million strong. Nastasia herself has traveled to sixty-three countries on solo adventures, sharing colorful photos of her tantalizing travels along the way. Dame Traveler celebrates these women with a photographic collection of 200 stunning images paired with inspiring captions, 80% of which have never been seen on the Instagram account. Organized into sections on architecture, culture, nature, and water, each entry features travel information, plus tips, advice, unique solo-travel experiences, and wisdom from contributing globe-trotters to embolden the next generation of Dame Travelers.

Book Developing a Dream Destination

Download or read book Developing a Dream Destination written by James Mak and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2008-03-06 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing a Dream Destination is an interpretive history of tourism and tourism policy development in Hawai‘i from the 1960s to the twenty-first century. Part 1 looks at the many changes in tourism since statehood (1959) and tourism’s imprint on Hawai‘i. Part 2 reviews the development of public policy toward tourism, beginning with a story of the planning process that started around 1970—a full decade before the first comprehensive State Tourism Plan was crafted and implemented. It also examines state government policies and actions taken relative to the taxation of tourism, tourism promotion, convention center development and financing, the environment, Honolulu County’s efforts to improve Waikiki, and how the Neighbor Islands have coped with explosive tourism growth. Along the way, author James Mak offers interpretations of what has worked, what has not, and why. He concludes with a chapter on the lessons learned while developing a dream destination over the past half century.

Book Place Names of Hawaii

Download or read book Place Names of Hawaii written by Mary Kawena Pukui and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 1976-12-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many place names are there in the Hawaiian Islands? Even a rough estimate is impossible. Hawaiians named taro patches, rocks, trees, canoe landings, resting places in the forests, and the tiniest spots where miraculous events are believed to have taken place. And place names are far from static--names are constantly being given to new houses and buildings, streets and towns, and old names are replaced by new ones. It is essential, then, to record the names and the lore associated with them now, while Hawaiians are here to lend us their knowledge. And, whatever the fate of the Hawaiian language, the place names will endure. The first edition of Place Names of Hawaii contained only 1,125 entries. The coverage is expanded in the present edition to include about 4,000 entries, including names in English. Also, approximately 800 more names are included in this volume than appear in the second edition of the Atlas of Hawaii.
