About the Expert Kate Boyd has been keeping hamsters for seven years, from Campbell’s Russians, to Winter Whites, and Syrians. It all started when she was in a pet shop and saw two little Campbell’s Russians, and after getting them she did a lot of research in books and on the internet, and still ended up doing things wrong due to bad information. In the last seven years, people have learned so much more about keeping hamsters. After all, they are relatively new pets when you consider that many domestic pets have been kept for centuries, even thousands of years, and hamsters have only been popularly kept as pets for less than seventy years. Since then, she has gained a lot of knowledge and always has at least one hamster in her life. She has experience with keeping multiple groups and pairs of dwarf hamsters together successfully and loves to watch the group interaction and dynamics between them. She hopes her next hamsters will be two Chinese dwarves. She’s had no experience in keeping them personally but read a lot of information about Chinese hamsters, and she can’t wait to finally have the pleasure of learning more about them directly. She currently lives in Jacksonville, Florida with her family and one Campbell’s Russian, named Sawyer. HowExpert publishes quick 'how to' guides on all topics from A to Z by everyday experts.

Download or read book Raising a Hamster written by Carl Juan and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-12-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hamster, a member of the subfamily Cricetinae, is a small burrowing rodent. The characteristic cheek pouches used by hamsters to store food have made them popular as pets. Their short, stocky bodies are covered with fur, and their short tails are another distinguishing feature. Nocturnal animals like hamsters are typically only active at night. The Syrian hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) is the most popular of the hamster species maintained as a pet. Roborovski hamsters, Campbell hamsters, and Winter White hamsters are just a few examples of the dwarf hamsters that are common household pets. Hamsters are utilized in a variety of scientific investigations, including those pertaining to genetics and behavior in addition to their more common use as household pets. As a result of their prolific reproduction and low maintenance needs, they are often used as test subjects. Like a hamster stores food in its cheek pouches, the word "hamster" can be used metaphorically to describe someone who hoards or stores items excessively.

Book The Ultimate Guide to Dwarf Hamsters

Download or read book The Ultimate Guide to Dwarf Hamsters written by Michael Pierce and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "So, Snow White may have had her seven dwarfs. But they don't compare at all to the four dwarfs we're about to discuss in this book. And no their names aren't even near Dopey, Doc, Happy, Sleepy, Sneezy . . . well you get the idea. What we're talking about here is a delightful "pocket pet." A small little furry creature that'll win your heart the moment you take a look at him: The dwarf hamster. A Syrian hamster is about eight inches in length -- a little guy in his own right by any definition. So just how small does a hamster have to be to be thought of as a dwarf. These guys get no bigger than four inches in length. They're actually so small that they can climb right through the spaces between a regular wire hamster cage! Now that's tiny! But the love and delight they'll provide your family is huge. If you've been considering adding a pet to your family, but just don't have the room for a dog or even the space for a cat and accompanying litter box, consider the addition of a dwarf hamster to your family."--Back cover.

  • Release : 2015-06-18
  • ISBN : 9781941070390
  • Pages : 134 pages

Download or read book Dwarf Hamster written by Lolly Brown and published by Nrb Publishing. This book was released on 2015-06-18 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At roughly 50% the size of conventional hamster breeds, Dwarf Hamsters can make excellent pets for people who need a low-maintenance companion with a big personality. These tiny creatures may be too fast and too agile, however, to be kept by younger children without adult supervision. It's important to understand a Dwarf Hamster's husbandry needs well in advance of any adoption. All varieties are best suited for life in an aquarium as a habitat. Dwarf breeds have a lifespan of approximately three years and will thrive on a diet of commercially available pellets mixed with fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, and seeds. Entertaining and personable, Dwarf Hamsters do require patient and progressive socialization to become truly tame. Breeds like the Robovorski, however, are often best handled inside their enclosure only because they are not only active, but skilled little escape artists. This simple and accessible text presents all the basic information necessary to establish a Dwarf Hamster habitat, manage your pet's dietary needs, and monitor his health for potential illnesses. Although not difficult to keep as pets, Dwarf Hamsters - indeed all hamsters - are often "impulse" adoptions. Your best course of action is to acquire all the necessary supplies for your pet, assemble his habitat, understand his needs, and then bring your hamster home. By following straightforward directions for socialization and training, your Dwarf Hamster should settle in quickly and happily! Dwarf Hamster care, health, buying, breeding, and much more all covered!
