Book Hahn Fire Apparatus

Download or read book Hahn Fire Apparatus written by Tom W. Shand and published by Motorbooks. This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hahn was a medium size manufacturer of durable, reliable fire apparatus. Similar to Crown fire apparatus but with an East Coast focus. Unlike many other smaller manufacturers, Hahn produced its own custom chassis as well as building on other manufacturers chassis. Its chassis was also used by other small truck manufacturers. Hahn made a variety of apparatus, from tractor-drawn ladder trucks, to rear mounted aerials. Hahn's designs were very unique and identifiable. Very little has been published on Hahn in the past. This book uses previously unpublished photographs, many factory delivery shots, to document the story of Hahn from its inception to its demise.

Book excerpt: Before the cab-forward revolution led by the 700 Series American-LaFrance, there was the buckboard style of fire apparatus. With the driver ahead or aside of the engine, the buckboard style was the original cab-forward.This buckboard style was one of the more common incarnations of early motor fire apparatus design. Today it often is overlooked despite its historical significance.Buckboard Fire Apparatus: The Original Cab-Forward, with more than 200 photos and advertisements, explores the development of motor fire apparatus of the buckboard style during the brief period from 1905 through around 1920 when the buckboard style was common and produced in significant numbers by a variety of manufacturers.According to Walter McCall, the author of American Fire Engines Since 1900, "there is a LOT of new information in there, as well as many photos we haven't seen before. It's not just a book about buckboard-style apparatus -- it's an excellent overview of the birth of the motor fire apparatus era."

Book John Bean and FMC Fire Apparatus

Download or read book John Bean and FMC Fire Apparatus written by John Rieth and published by Enthusiast Books. This book was released on 2009-06-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The diverse Food Machinery and Chemical Corporation, later named FMC Corporation, made chemical and agricultural equipment dating back to the late 1800s. The Bean Spray Pump Company was an FMC division, changed to the John Bean Mfg. Co. in 1915 and sometime in the late 1930s an orchard owner successfully used his dependable John Bean sprayer to extinguish a neighbor’s house fire. This accidental success story led to the development of the high pressure fog system which helped put out fires during WWII, and soon led to the first High Pressure Fog Fire Fighter body that could be put on any truck chassis. Their success propelled them to become one of the revered names in the fire apparatus industry through the post-war years until their slow weaning of the Bean name and eventual demise in the early 1990s. Although primarily used by rural fire departments as an economical fire engine, many large cities even acquired FMC/Bean apparatus. Portrayed with historic black and white and contemporary color images, this book covers the whole lineup from slide-in pumper and tank combos, to custom-built brush trucks, tankers, commercial and custom chassis pumpers, and even aerials, snorkels and ladder towers.

Book Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Apparatus History

Download or read book Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Apparatus History written by Mike Sanders and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The formation of the volunteer fire and rescue departments were a central part of Loudoun County's rich history. In the beginning, residents rallied to provide fire protection and emergency medical care to their neighbors. As more communities were established, fire and rescue departments worked together to provide assistance to each other during an emergency. As Loudoun County experiences incredible growth, volunteers from the community work side-by-side with career personnel to ensure that citizens are well protected. The images in this volume capture the history of Loudoun's fire and rescue apparatus, from the earliest trucks to today's modern fire and rescue vehicles. The photographs depict a time when departments struggled to raise funds and provide protection to their communities. This Images of America book shows how far fire and rescue departments have come to ensure the protection of life and property in Loudoun County.
