Download or read book Hadrons Nuclei And Applications Procs Of The Conf Bologna 2000 Structure Of The Nucleus At The Dawn Of The Century Vol 3 written by Giovanni C Bonsignori and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-11-09 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Conference “Bologna 2000: Structure of the Nucleus at the Dawn of the Century” was devoted to a discipline which has seen a strong revival of research activities in the last decade. New experimental results and theoretical developments in nuclear physics will certainly make important contributions to our knowledge and understanding of Nature's fundamental building blocks. The interest aroused by the Conference among the scientific community was clearly reflected in the large number of participants. These represented the most important nuclear physics laboratories in the world. The Conference covered five major topics of modern nuclear physics: nuclear structure, nucleus-nucleus collisions, hadron dynamics, nuclear astrophysics, and transdisciplinary and peaceful applications of nuclear science. It reviewed recent progress in the field and provided a forum for the discussion of current and future research projects.

Book Excited Nucleons And Hadron Structure Proceedings Of The Nstar 2000 Conference

Download or read book Excited Nucleons And Hadron Structure Proceedings Of The Nstar 2000 Conference written by Volker Burkert and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-02-28 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conference NSTAR 2000 was part of a series of conferences and workshops that began in New York in 1988. Since then, the field of excited nucleons and hadron structure has developed enormously, and the scope has broadened. Most significantly, new experimental facilities have come into operation, allowing precise measurements of resonance couplings and transition form factors. The search for “missing” quark model states and gluonic excitations in complex hadronic channels is now possible. On the theory side, new and promising developments have emerged: quark models with meson degrees of freedom, hybrid baryon models, and studies of baryons in the limit of many colors. For the first time, lattice QCD has been employed to calculate masses of excited nucleons. Nucleon resonances are now recognized as providing significant contributions to the nucleon spin sum rules, as well as the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn and Bjorken integrals, at finite momentum transfer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume contains a collection of papers presented at the International Symposium on Hadrons and Nuclei. Among many specific subjects in this field we chose to discuss (i) interactions of mesons with nucleons and nuclei, (ii) electromagnetic probes of nucleons and nuclei, (iii) strangeness in nuclear physics, (iv) hadrons in nuclear matter, and (v) lattice QCD and other related topics. Studies of the nucleon-nucleon interactions are extended nowadays to antinucleons, and new experimental and theoretical investigations are presented. Interaction of pions with nucleons, pionic atoms, and aspects of chiral symmetry are discussed by several authors. New exciting discoveries at several experimental facilities such as Spring-8 and KEK in Japan, HERA and SIS in Germany, and CEBAF and RHIC in the US are presented.

Book excerpt: Although our understanding of the structure and activities of the cell nucleus and of the nanomachines which it contains is increasing rapidly, much remains to be learned. The application and continuing development of the new, powerful biochemical and biophysical methodologies described here are essential in this quest. In The Nucleus, researchers from more than forty leading international laboratories describe state-of-the-art methods for isolating nuclei and their components and for studying their structure and activities, including some pathology-associated features. Volume I: Nuclei and Subnuclear Structures presents an overview of features of the intranuclear environment, followed by the most recent procedures for isolating nuclei from a wide range of cell types including muscle cells, yeast, oocytes, cells with polytene nuclei, Arabidopsis, trypanosomes, and dinoflagellates. The latest methods are described for isolating and working with nucleoli, constitutive heterochromatin, pathology-associated inclusions, and chromatin and for examining glycosylation, sumoylation, and ADP-ribosylation of nuclear proteins. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular BiologyTM series format, chapters contain lists of necessary materials and reagents, readily reproducible protocols, and tips for troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. The Nucleus, Volume I: Nuclei and Subnuclear Structures is an essential reference for scientists who are working on our rapidly growing understanding of the cell nucleus and its activities.
