Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the phenomenology and theory of hadron form factors in a consistent manner, deriving step-by-step the key equations, defining the form factors from the matrix elements of hadronic transitions and deriving their symmetry relations. Explained are several general concepts of particle theory and phenomenology exemplified by hadron form factors. The main emphasis here is on learning the analytical methods in particle phenomenology. Many examples of hadronic processes involving form factors are considered, from the pion electromagnetic scattering to heavy B-meson decays. In the second part of the book, modern techniques of the form factor calculation, based on the method of sum rules in the theory of strong interactions, quantum chromodynamics, are introduced in an accessible manner. This book will be a useful guide for graduate students and early-career researchers working in the field of particle phenomenology and experiments. Features: • The first book to address the phenomenology of hadron form factors at a pedagogical level in one coherent volume • Contains up-to-date descriptions of the most important form factors of the electroweak transitions investigated in particle physics experiments

Book Rapidly Decreasing Form Factors and Infinitely Composite Particles

Download or read book Rapidly Decreasing Form Factors and Infinitely Composite Particles written by John D. Stack and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of understanding the asymptotic behavior of hadron electromagnetic form factors is considered. It is shown that if the hadrons form a bootstrap, each hadron must be a bound state of an infinite number of particles, or infinitely composite. A simple model containing an infinitely composite particle is constructed and the form factor of the particle is calculated. The form factor decreases exponentially for large space-like momentum transfers. On the basis of this it is suggested that a criterion for a bootstrap should be exponentially decreasing form factors for all hadrons. (Author).

Book Electromagnetic Form Factors of Hadrons

Download or read book Electromagnetic Form Factors of Hadrons written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vector meson dominance model of the electromagnetic form factors of hadrons is developed which is based on the use of unstable particle propagators. Least-square fits are made to the proton, neutron, pion and kaon form factor data in both the space and time-like regions. A good fit to the low-energy nucleon form factor data is obtained using only rho, $omega$, and phi dominance, and leads to a determination of the vector meson resonance parameters in good agreement with experiment. The nucleon-vector meson coupling constants obey simple sum rules indicating that there exists no hard core contribution to the form factors within theoretical uncertainties. The prediction for the electromagnetic radii of the proton is in reasonable agreement with recent experiments. The pion and kaon charge form factors as deduced from the nucleon form factors assuming vector meson universality are compared to the data. The pion form factor agrees with the data in both the space and time-like regions. The pion charge radius is in agreement with the recent Dubna result, but the isovector P-wave pion-pion phase shift calculated from the theory disagrees with experiment. A possible contribution to the form factors from a heavy rho meson is also evaluated. (auth).

Book excerpt: This volume of the International School of Physics Enrico Fermi is dedicated to Valerio Filippini. He devoted his life to physics. Valerio Filippini was born in Somma Lombardo (Milano) on December 8, 1958. He obtained the Master Degree in Physics at the University of Pavia in 1982, cum laude. After a working parenthesis at an industrial firm, he became Research Physicist of INFN, Sezione di Pavia, in 1988 and was promoted Senior Research Physicist in 1993. He participated to the experiments PS 179 (TOFRADUPP) and PS 201 (Obelix) at LEAR (CERN), FINUDA at LNF and ATHENA at AD (CERN). His outstanding scientific contributions were provided in the OBELIX and FINUDA experiments. Nobody could compete with Filippini in exploiting at best the daily-evoluting performances of the computing tools for the needs of the experiments, both for on-line and off-line purposes. The FINUDA experiment collected physics data immediately after the roll-in thanks to the reliability and simplicity of the on-line system designed and assembled by the physicist. However, he was not only a 'Clavier Physicist' but a complete Scientist: he also leaded the Pavia Group in designing and providing advanced detectors, and in developing mathematical methods for the analysis of the data. His scientific contributions are documented by about 90 publications on refereed international journals, about 100 contributions to International Conferences and Workshops, and 3 invited talks.

Download or read book Quark Confinement and the Hadron Spectrum V written by N. Brambilla and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an update on our understanding of strong interaction, with theoretical and experimental highlights included. It is divided into five sections. The first section is devoted to the investigations into and the latest results on the mechanism of quark confinement. The second and third sections focus respectively on light and heavy quarks (effective field theories, Schwinger-Dyson approach and lattice QCD results). The fourth section deals with the deconfinement mechanism and quark-gluon plasma formation signals. The last section presents highlights of experiments, new physics beyond QCD, and nonperturbative approaches in other theories (strings and SUSY) that may be useful in QCD.

Book The Structure of Light front Wavefunctions and Constraints on Hadronic Form Factors

Download or read book The Structure of Light front Wavefunctions and Constraints on Hadronic Form Factors written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We study the analytic structure of light-front wave functions (LFWFs) and its consequences for hadron form factors using an explicitly Lorentz-invariant formulation of the front form. The normal to the light front is specified by a general null vector [omega][sup [mu]]. The LFWFs with definite total angular momentum are eigenstates of a kinematic angular momentum operator and satisfy all Lorentz symmetries. They are analytic functions of the invariant mass squared of the constituents M[sub 0][sup 2] = ([Sigma]k[sup [mu]])[sup 2] and the light-cone momentum fractions x[sub i] = k[sub i][omega]/p[omega] multiplied by invariants constructed from the spin matrices, polarization vectors, and [omega][sup [mu]]. These properties are illustrated using known nonperturbative eigensolutions of the Wick-Cutkosky model. We analyze the LFWFs introduced by Chung and Coester to describe static and low momentum properties of the nucleons. They correspond to the spin-locking of a quark with the spin of its parent nucleon, together with a positive-energy projection constraint. These extra constraints lead to anomalous dependence of form factors on Q rather than Q[sup 2]. In contrast, the dependence of LFWFs on M[sub 0][sup 2] implies that hadron form factors are analytic functions of Q[sup 2] in agreement with dispersion theory and perturbative QCD. We show that a model incorporating the leading-twist perturbative QCD prediction is consistent with recent data for the ratio of proton Pauli and Dirac form factors.

Book The Hadron Mass Spectrum

Download or read book The Hadron Mass Spectrum written by E. Klempt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hadron Mass Spectrum covers the proceedings of the Rheinfels Workshop on the Hadron Mass Spectrum, held in St. Goar, Germany on September 3-6, 1990. The book focuses on the processes, methodologies, and reactions involved in hadron spectroscopy. The selection first offers information on strange meson and strangeonium spectroscopy and strangeonium production from LASS. The book also takes a look at the status of strange meson spectroscopy, including status of the spectroscopy, systematics of the level structure, and contributions from LASS. The publication examines the scalar meson enigma and two photon couplings of scalar and tensor mesons. The manuscript also touches on rhoprimes, omegaprimes, and glueballs; meson production mechanisms and selection criteria for cryptoexotic states; and light meson spectroscopy and threshold effects. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in hadron mass spectrum.
