Book H sub 2 sub Removal from Coal Gas at Mid Temperature

Download or read book H sub 2 sub Removal from Coal Gas at Mid Temperature written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In certain coal gasification processes, the capability to scrub H/sub 2/S from coal gas at quench/particulate scrubbing temperatures, typically 150/sup 0/C to 200/sup 0/C, would substantially reduce gas cleanup equipment costs, complexity, and condensate handling requirements. Candidate absorbents have been identified and evaluated. This paper discusses those absorbents and their performance under realistic operating conditions with simulated coal gas. The benefits of mid-temperature H/sub 2/S scrubbing are summarized as follows: up to 60% reduction in cleanup system capital cost and components; substantially reduced process and controls complexity; opportunity for scrubbing of sulfur compounds and NH/sub 3/ in the same location; and elimination of the need for condensate handling and recycle, and potential emissions resulting from these operations. Based on the results obtained thus far and its relative advantages over other process, the direct oxidation process using stable inorganic catalysts appears to be most promising. The process is simple, requires low chemicals cost and has potential for simultaneous removal of H/sub 2/S and NH/sub 3/. The process requires further investigation to optimize the operating parameters under actual process condition.

Book High Temperature Electrochemical Separation of H Sub 2 S from Coal Gasification Process Streams

Download or read book High Temperature Electrochemical Separation of H Sub 2 S from Coal Gasification Process Streams written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An advanced process for the separation of hydrogen sulfide from coal gasification product streams through an electrochemical membrane is being developed. H2S is removed from the syn-gas stream, split into hydrogen, which enriches the syn-gas, and sulfur, which can be condensed from an inert gas sweep stream. The process allows removal of H2S without cooling the gas stream and with negligible pressure loss through the separator. The process is economically attractive by the lack of adsorbents and the lack of a Claus process for sulfur recovery. Research conducted during the present quarter is highlighted, with an emphasis on progress towards the goal of an economically viable H2S removal technology for use in coal gasification facilities providing polished fuel for co-generation coal fired electrical power facilities and Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell electrical power facilities. Polishing application of this technology to coal gasification synthesis gas has been demonstrated with H2S removals as high as 89.1% recorded. No successful runs with stainless steel housings have yet been achieved. However, since stoichiometric CO2 removal with stainless steel housings has been achieved, H2S removal is achievable.

Book Cities and Their Vital Systems

Download or read book Cities and Their Vital Systems written by Advisory Committee on Technology and Society and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 1298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cities and Their Vital Systems asks basic questions about the longevity, utility, and nature of urban infrastructures; analyzes how they grow, interact, and change; and asks how, when, and at what cost they should be replaced. Among the topics discussed are problems arising from increasing air travel and airport congestion; the adequacy of water supplies and waste treatment; the impact of new technologies on construction; urban real estate values; and the field of "telematics," the combination of computers and telecommunications that makes money machines and national newspapers possible.

Book High Temperature Membranes for H sub 2 and SO sub 2 Separations

Download or read book High Temperature Membranes for H sub 2 and SO sub 2 Separations written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High temperature membrane separation techniques have been applied to gas mixtures involved in coal utilization. For coal gasification, H[sub 2]S has been removed from the syn-gas stream, split into hydrogen which enriches the syn-gas, and sulfur which can be condensed from an inert gas sweep stream. For coal combustion, SO[sub 2] has been separated from the flue gas, with concentrated SO[sub 3] produced as a by-product. Both processes appear economically viable but each requires fundamental improvements: both the H[sub 2]S cell and the SO[sub 2] cell require more efficient membranes and the H[sub 2]S cell needs a more efficient anode. Membranes will be fabricated by either hot-pressing, impregnation of sintered bodies, or tape casting. Research conducted during the present quarter is highlighted, with an emphasis on progress towards these goals.
