This book was released on 2015-08-15 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GUYANA: LAND OF BEAUTY AND MANY WATERS! In one of the most stunning pieces of literary and creative photographic artistry to come out of Guyana in recent years, GUYANA: LAND OF BEAUTY AND MANY WATERS is more than just another book. In many ways, it is a tour de force exposition of significant aspects of the African-Guyanese historical and cultural experience, viz., "Pan-Africanism;" "African Spirituality;" "Righteousness;" "Greed is Good;" "Slave Trade;" "The African Woman;" "March 6, 1957;" "Witness to Emancipation;" "Playing the Jagan Card;" "The March for Granger: " "Freddie Kissoon;" and more. To this we add depictions of indigenous birds and animals, even a few commentaries on the contemporary blemished dark days of the Guyanese experience will certainly make this a classic in the annals of Guyanese history. This is particularly so for the photographic images that counterbalance the text ranging from depiction of the area of the "Seven Ponds" of the "Botanic Gardens;" capturing the infinitesimal beauty of the Promenade Gardens; privileged to experience an exquisite aesthetic cultural phenomenon depicted in the African Heritage Museum's sculptural display, all add to the beauty of the work! To this we added "A Dash of Mash" 2015 and 2016. Then there is the New York celebration and representation at the International Friendship Day Festival celebrated in Brooklyn, New York (2014, 2015). In addition to contemporary private and governmental architecture decorating the Georgetown skyline as well as the magnificent 2016 "Flag Raising" and spectacular images from the New York "March For Granger" parade in Brooklyn, New York, to Brooklyn Boro Hall Celebration of 49 years of Guyanese independence, these images add tremendously to the colorful balance of the work. Ever thought of fathoming the intellectual fortitude, visionary leadership and heartfelt commitment of the founding President of the Cooperative Republic L.F.S. Burnham? Well, a significant number of his titles are pictured! The author even pokes fun at the outgoing President and Home Affairs Minister while he praises a courageous and consistent columnist who dared, for the longest, to speak truth to and about power! Last but certainly not least, praise is given the wonderful Curator and exhibit of the African Heritage Museum for promoting and sustaining the wonderful African cultural experience when such a bold task was indeed a significant challenge. However, while this work showcases the picturesque beauty of Guyana whose "Waters" are legendary, the personable, jovial and determined manner in which the New York revelers at the parade sang "Not a Blade of Grass" was serious and determined while the "Second Kiddie Parade in 2016 Mash" reiterated in picturesque display several lines from the famous song. The military parade display at Durban Park, 23, 2016 sends a clear and resounding message to those with mal-intent who threaten Guyana sovereignty and territorial integrity. sumonpublishers.com @sumonpublishers.com [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]

Book excerpt: Lionel Etwaru became very involved in ministry with Apostle Harry Das and had the opportunity to see the power of the gospel transforming the lives of men and women. In this biography, we see how many lives have been changed and kept by the power of God. Many, in turn, became a part of the mission to share the Gospel in unreached villages, where churches have been planted. This dynamic presentation of the Gospel was expanded when Apostle Philip Mohabir came together with Apostle Harry Das in 1964 and founded the Full Gospel Fellowship. As the team expanded, so the number of churches increased. Today, there are more than 120 churches and scores of missionaries who have been trained in the Bible Training Center. This move did not only affect Guyana but at least thirty other nations around the world. Lionel now lives with his wife, Margaret, in Long Island, New York and pastors a church in Queens. He continues to travel to many other countries for ministry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Longlisted for the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award “A deeply felt and passionately expressed manifesto.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred) A meditation in the spirit of John Berger and bell hooks on art as protest, contemplation, and beauty in politically perilous times As people consider how to respond to a resurgence of racist, xenophobic populism, A Mouth Is Always Muzzled tells an extraordinary story of the ways art brings hope in perilous times. Weaving disparate topics from sugar and British colonialism to attacks on free speech and Facebook activism and traveling a jagged path across the Americas, Africa, India, and Europe, Natalie Hopkinson, former culture writer for the Washington Post and The Root, argues that art is where the future is negotiated. Part post-colonial manifesto, part history of British Caribbean, part exploration of art in the modern world, A Mouth Is Always Muzzled is a dazzling analysis of the insistent role of art in contemporary politics and life. In crafted, well-honed prose, Hopkinson knits narratives of culture warriors: painter Bernadette Persaud, poet Ruel Johnson, historian Walter Rodney, novelist John Berger, and provocative African American artist Kara Walker, whose homage to the sugar trade Sugar Sphinx electrified American audiences. A Mouth Is Always Muzzled is a moving meditation documenting the artistic legacy generated in response to white supremacy, brutality, domination, and oppression. In the tradition of Paul Gilroy, it is a cri de coeur for the significance of politically bold—even dangerous—art to all people and nations.

Book Connecting with My African Roots

Download or read book Connecting with My African Roots written by Carmen Barclay Subryan Ph.D. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not only about connection but also about discovery. As an adult, through my years or reading and research, I became aware of the theories revolving around Pangea (Pangaea), the super continent existing over 300 million years ago that included Africa and South America. The theory is that it broke apart to form the Americas, the Atlantic Ocean, as well as many islands. If one looks at a globe or a map, one would see that Africa and South America fit together like a hand in a glove, and if one believes the theory, then these countries share a common ancestry. So even though what became known as The Middle Passage separated the two continents, the people undoubtedly retain the DNA of those ancestors that creates a forever connection between what was and what is. For this reason, the picture of Pangea on my book cover is exceedingly important.
