Download or read book Guidelines for Highway Delineation written by Edward R. Pennell and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project advanced the implementation of current technical knowledge in many areas of delineation and clarified the position of the New Jersey Department of Transportation's units and management on unresolved issues. By reviewing literature, making field inspections, and from interviews with professionals, delineation needs and issues were developed. Decisions on delineation issues were made from questionnaire surveys and meetings of New Jersey Department of Transportation managers and professionals.

Book Roadway Delineation Practices Handbook

Download or read book Roadway Delineation Practices Handbook written by James Migletz and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook was developed to assist design, traffic, and maintenance engineering personnel in making determinations about roadway delineation systems, including the appropriate system for a given situation, when a system has reached the end of its useful life, and how to maintain a quality delineation system. This handbook supplements the policies and standards provided in the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices" by offering implementation guidelines for the standards. The contents cover current and newly developed devices, materials, and installation equipment, presenting each item's expected performance based on actual experience or field and laboratory tests.

Book State of the art on Roadway Delineation Systems

Download or read book State of the art on Roadway Delineation Systems written by S. G. Bali and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roadway delineation treatments and systems are those devices and techniques which individually or in combination provide guidance, regulatory, or warning information to drivers under various highway situations. This state-of-the-art report on roadway delineation systems constitutes an update to the National Cooperative Highway Research Program Report 130. In the first part of the report, studies documented since the publication of NCHRP Report 130 are reviewed. This review is organized under two headings; Delineation Situations and Delineation Treatments. Under the former heading, studies relative to the application of different delineation treatments and systems for various highway situations are evaluated. The latter heading contains reviews of the studies from the standpoint of materials, cost, maintenance, durability and environmental effects. Recommendations subject to ongoing research on delineation applications under different highway situations are given in the second part. A partially annotated bibliography is also included.

Book Cost effectiveness and safety of alternative roadway delineation treatments for rural two lane highways

Download or read book Cost effectiveness and safety of alternative roadway delineation treatments for rural two lane highways written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under this research study, the effect of various delineation treatments on accident rates was assessed by analyzing accident data from more than 500 roadway sites in 10 States for tangent, winding and isolated horizontal curve sections on two-lane rural highways. Cost-benefit and cost models for evaluating specific delineation treatments were developed and guidelines formulated by executing the cost-benefit models for selected delineation treatments.

Book Improving Work zone Delineation on Limited Access Highways

Download or read book Improving Work zone Delineation on Limited Access Highways written by Frank D. Shepard and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to investigate vehicle guidance through work zones by evaluating the effectiveness of two primary components of traffic control relative to delineation. First, a comparison of the steady-burn lights presently used on top of the temporary concrete barriers was made with experimental reflectorized panels. Second, the addition of closely spaced raised pavement markers as a supplement to the existing pavement markings was evaluated. The study was limited to work zones on interstates and four-lane highways. The results of this investigation have led to the recommendation that (1) steady-burn lights on temporary concrete barricades should be replaced with reflectorized panels fabricated with high intensity sheeting, and (2) closely spaced, raised pavement markers should be used as a supplement to existing pavement striping in areas where the roadway alignment changes.
