Book Flow Induced Pulsation and Vibration in Hydroelectric Machinery

Download or read book Flow Induced Pulsation and Vibration in Hydroelectric Machinery written by Peter Dörfler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-28 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1970’s, an increasing amount of specialized research has focused on the problems created by instability of internal flow in hydroelectric power plants. However, progress in this field is hampered by the interdisciplinary nature of the subject, between fluid mechanics, structural mechanics and hydraulic transients. Flow-induced Pulsation and Vibration in Hydroelectric Machinery provides a compact guidebook explaining the many different underlying physical mechanisms and their possible effects. Typical phenomena are described to assist in the proper diagnosis of problems and various key strategies for solution are compared and considered with support from practical experience and real-life examples. The link between state-of the-art CFD computation and notorious practical problems is discussed and quantitative data is provided on normal levels of vibration and pulsation so realistic limits can be set for future projects. Current projects are also addressed as the possibilities and limitations of reduced-scale model tests for prediction of prototype performance are explained. Engineers and project planners struggling with the practical problems will find Flow-induced Pulsation and Vibration in Hydroelectric Machinery to be a comprehensive and convenient reference covering key topics and ideas across a range of relevant disciplines.

Book Smart Grid Standards

Download or read book Smart Grid Standards written by Takuro Sato and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-02-02 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fully comprehensive introduction to smart grid standardsand their applications for developers, consumers and serviceproviders The critical role of standards for smart grid has already beenrealized by world-wide governments and industrial organizations. There are hundreds of standards for Smart Grid which have beendeveloped in parallel by different organizations. It istherefore necessary to arrange those standards in such a way thatit is easier for readers to easily understand and select aparticular standard according to their requirements without goinginto the depth of each standard, which often spans from hundreds tothousands of pages. The book will allow people in the smart grid areas and in therelated industries to easily understand the fundamental standardsof smart grid, and quickly find the building-block standards theyneed from hundreds of standards for implementing a smart gridsystem. The authors highlight the most advanced works and effortsnow under way to realize an integrated and interoperable smartgrid, such as the “NIST Framework and Roadmap for Smart GridInteroperability Standards Release 2.0”, the” IEC SmartGrid Standardization Roadmap”, the ISO/IEC’s“Smart Grid Standards for Residential Customers”, theZigBee/HomePlug’s “Smart Energy Profile Specification2.0”, IEEE’s P2030 “Draft Guide for Smart GridInteroperability of Energy Technology and Information TechnologyOperation with the Electric Power System (EPS), and End-UseApplications and Loads”, and the latest joint researchproject results between the world’s two largest economies, USand China. The book enables readers to fully understand the latestachievements and ongoing technical works of smart grid standards, and assist industry utilities, vendors, academia, regulators, andother smart grid stakeholders in future decision making. The book begins with an overview of the smart grid, andintroduces the opportunities in both developed and developingcountries. It then examines the standards for power griddomain of the smart grid, including standards for blackoutprevention and energy management, smart transmission, advanceddistribution management and automation, smart substationautomation, and condition monitoring. Communication and securitystandards as a whole are the backbone of smart grid and theirstandards, including those for wired and wireless communications, are then assessed. Finally the authors consider the standards andon-going work and efforts for interoperability and integrationbetween different standards and networks, including the latestjoint research effort between the world’s two largesteconomies, US and China. A fully comprehensive introduction to smart grid standards andtheir applications for developers, consumers and serviceproviders Covers all up-to-date standards of smart grid, including thekey standards from NIST, IEC, ISO ZigBee, IEEE, HomePlug, SAE, andother international and regional standardization organizations. TheAppendix summarizes all of the standards mentioned in the book Presents standards for renewable energy and smart generation, covering wind energy, solar voltaic, fuel cells, pumped storage, distributed generation, and nuclear generation standards. Standardsfor other alternative sources of energy such as geothermal energy, and bioenergy are briefly introduced Introduces the standards for smart storage and plug-in electricvehicles, including standards for distributed energy resources(DER), electric storage, and E-mobility/plug-in vehicles The book is written in an accessible style, ideal as anintroduction to the topic, yet contains sufficient detail andresearch to appeal to the more advanced and specialist reader.

Book Basics of Vibration and Condition Analysis

Download or read book Basics of Vibration and Condition Analysis written by Kameshwar Upadhyay and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2020-07-22 with total page 691 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book aims to impart basic knowledge of vibration and its effects on the process, functions and life of industrial machinery and acceptable limits of vibration, derived from different international standards. It highlights characteristics of vibration amplitude (displacement, velocity and acceleration), frequency and phase. It explains the basics of vibration theories of free & forced, single and double degree, damped and un-damped vibration systems, mode shapes, critical speeds of rotor and presents solution of complex vibrations in simplified mathematical models. Vibration measurement techniques, various types of transducers and their applications are also illustrated briefly. The book elaborates fault diagnosis & condition analysis techniques through simplified tabular charts for machines and mechanical modelling solution of vibration on complex bodies. Condition analysis by machine performance like efficiency, water rate, fuel consumption, or output and specific functional deviation(s) in machine is elaborated specially for setting alarms at suitable parameter of vibration. The static and dynamic balancing techniques are explored for single plane balancing, using only amplitude, amplitude and phase, or only phase for practical applications. In situ two-plane balancing by graphical, mathematical and computerized techniques are described in a simplified manner to achieve acceptable value of unbalance (reference international standards for different types of machines). The case studies of single or multi-degree freedom, damped or un-damped, torsional, and translational vibration are described for understanding, trouble diagnosis and their remedial actions to resolve the problems.

Download or read book Flow Induced Vibrations written by Eduard Naudascher and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-03-27 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite their variety, the vibration phenomena from many different engineering fields can be classified into a relatively few basic excitation mechanisms. The classification enables engineers to identify all possible sources of excitation in a given system and to assess potential dangers. This graduate-level text presents a synthesis of research results and practical experience from disparate fields in the form of engineering guidelines. It is particularly geared toward assessing the possible sources of excitation in a flow system, in identifying the actual danger spots, and in finding appropriate remedial measures or cures. Flow-induced vibrations are presented in terms of their basic elements: body oscillators, fluid oscillators, and sources of excitation. By stressing these basic elements, the authors provide a basis for the transfer of knowledge from one system to another, as well as from one engineering field to another. In this manner, well-known theories on cylinders in cross-flow or well-executed solutions from the field of wind engineering--to name just two examples--may be useful in other systems or fields on which information is scarce. The unified approach is broad enough to permit treatment of the major excitation mechanism, yet simple enough to be of practical use.
