Download or read book Emerging Contaminants Vol 1 written by Nadia Morin-Crini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-21 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emerging contaminants are chemical and biological agents for which there is growing concern about their potential health and environmental effects. The threat lies in the fact that the sources, fate and toxicology of most of these compounds have not yet been studied. Emerging contaminants, therefore, include a large number of both recently discovered and well-known compounds such as rare earth elements, viruses, bacteria, nanomaterials, microplastics, pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors, hormones, personal care products, cosmetics, pesticides, surfactants and industrial chemicals. Emerging contaminants have been found in many daily products, and some of them accumulate in the food chain. Correlations have been observed between aquatic pollution by emerging contaminants and discharges from wastewater treatment plants. Most actual remediation methods are not effective at removing emerging contaminants. This first volume presents comprehensive knowledge on emerging contaminants with a focus on analysis, toxicity, antibiotic resistance and human health.

Download or read book The Myths About Nutrition Science written by David Lightsey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-14 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many nutrition science and food production myths and misconceptions dominate the health and fitness field, and many athletes and active consumers unknowingly embrace a myriad of what can be deemed “junk science” which has now infiltrated many related science fields. Consumers simply have no reliable source to help them navigate through all the hype and fabrication, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation. The aim of The Myths About Nutrition Science is, then, to address the quagmire of misinformation which is so pervasive in this area. This will enable the reader to make more objective, science-based lifestyle choices, as well as physical training or developmental decisions. The book also enables the reader to develop the necessary critical thinking skills to better evaluate the reliability of the purported “science” as reported in the media and health-related magazines or publications. The Myths About Nutrition Science provides an authoritative yet readily understandable overview of the common misunderstandings that are commonplace within consumer and athlete communities regarding the food production process and nutrition science, which may affect their physical development, performance, and long-term health.

Arbeitsgruppe "Analytik." and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1987 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of up-to-date methods for analyzing pesticide residues represents those proven methods that are of most value to the analyst. The methods chosen demonstrate a particularly high standard of reliability and have all been validated by at least one other specially qualified laboratory. They are also presented in such detailed and readily understandable form that analysts using them cannot possibly be left in doubt about how to proceed. Each of the single methods specifies the substrates to which it is suited and on which it has been validated, among them food crops, stored commodities, processed food of vegetable and animal origin, feedstuffs, forage and fodder crops, soil, and water. Both Volumes arrange the compound-specific methods in the alphabetical order of the compound names. They also contain indexes to provide quick access to the desired method. The single methods each contain the chemical name and the structural formula of the respective compound. Multiple methods are preceded by a table in which chemical names and structural formulae are presented jointly for all compounds.
