Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This systematic and self-contained treatment examines the topology of differentiable manifolds, curvature and homology of Riemannian manifolds, compact Lie groups, complex manifolds, and curvature and homology of Kaehler manifolds. It generalizes the theory of Riemann surfaces to that of Riemannian manifolds. Includes four helpful appendixes. "A valuable survey." — Nature. 1962 edition.

Book Symplectic Manifolds with no Kaehler structure

Download or read book Symplectic Manifolds with no Kaehler structure written by Alesky Tralle and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a research monograph covering the majority of known results on the problem of constructing compact symplectic manifolds with no Kaehler structure with an emphasis on the use of rational homotopy theory. In recent years, some new and stimulating conjectures and problems have been formulated due to an influx of homotopical ideas. Examples include the Lupton-Oprea conjecture, the Benson-Gordon conjecture, both of which are in the spirit of some older and still unsolved problems (e.g. Thurston's conjecture and Sullivan's problem). Our explicit aim is to clarify the interrelations between certain aspects of symplectic geometry and homotopy theory in the framework of the problems mentioned above. We expect that the reader is aware of the basics of differential geometry and algebraic topology at graduate level.

Book Fundamental Groups of Compact Kahler Manifolds

Download or read book Fundamental Groups of Compact Kahler Manifolds written by Jaume Amorós and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an exposition of what is currently known about the fundamental groups of compact Kähler manifolds. This class of groups contains all finite groups and is strictly smaller than the class of all finitely presentable groups. For the first time ever, this book collects together all the results obtained in the last few years which aim to characterize those infinite groups which can arise as fundamental groups of compact Kähler manifolds. Most of these results are negative ones, saying which groups don not arise. The methods and techniques used form an attractive mix of topology, differential and algebraic geometry, and complex analysis. The book would be useful to researchers and graduate students interested in any of these areas, and it could be used as a textbook for an advanced graduate course. One of its outstanding features is a large number of concrete examples. The book contains a number of new results and examples which have not appeared elsewhere, as well as discussions of some important open questions in the field.

Book Mathematical Aspects of Quantum Field Theories

Download or read book Mathematical Aspects of Quantum Field Theories written by Damien Calaque and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-06 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite its long history and stunning experimental successes, the mathematical foundation of perturbative quantum field theory is still a subject of ongoing research. This book aims at presenting some of the most recent advances in the field, and at reflecting the diversity of approaches and tools invented and currently employed. Both leading experts and comparative newcomers to the field present their latest findings, helping readers to gain a better understanding of not only quantum but also classical field theories. Though the book offers a valuable resource for mathematicians and physicists alike, the focus is more on mathematical developments. This volume consists of four parts: The first Part covers local aspects of perturbative quantum field theory, with an emphasis on the axiomatization of the algebra behind the operator product expansion. The second Part highlights Chern-Simons gauge theories, while the third examines (semi-)classical field theories. In closing, Part 4 addresses factorization homology and factorization algebras.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past thirty years, differential geometry has undergone an enormous change with infusion of topology, Lie theory, complex analysis, algebraic geometry and partial differential equations. Professor Matsushima played a leading role in this transformation by bringing new techniques of Lie groups and Lie algebras into the study of real and complex manifolds. This volume is a collection of all the 46 papers written by him.

Book Complex Geometry of Slant Submanifolds

Download or read book Complex Geometry of Slant Submanifolds written by Bang-Yen Chen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-11 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an up-to-date survey and self-contained chapters on complex slant submanifolds and geometry, authored by internationally renowned researchers. The book discusses a wide range of topics, including slant surfaces, slant submersions, nearly Kaehler, locally conformal Kaehler, and quaternion Kaehler manifolds. It provides several classification results of minimal slant surfaces, quasi-minimal slant surfaces, slant surfaces with parallel mean curvature vector, pseudo-umbilical slant surfaces, and biharmonic and quasi biharmonic slant surfaces in Lorentzian complex space forms. Furthermore, this book includes new results on slant submanifolds of para-Hermitian manifolds. This book also includes recent results on slant lightlike submanifolds of indefinite Hermitian manifolds, which are of extensive use in general theory of relativity and potential applications in radiation and electromagnetic fields. Various open problems and conjectures on slant surfaces in complex space forms are also included in the book. It presents detailed information on the most recent advances in the area, making it valuable for scientists, educators and graduate students.
