Download or read book Group 15 Mechanics of Fluids written by A. T. Troskolański and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vocabulary of Mechanics, Volume 2: Group 15. Mechanics of Fluids provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of the mechanics of fluids. This book covers a variety of topics, including fluid mechanics, hydrostatics, aeromechanics, gas dynamics, aeroelasticity, and dynamic meteorology. Organized into two parts encompassing 95 sections, this volume begins with an overview of the branch of mechanics dealing with the phenomena of fluids in motion and at rest. This text then deals with the geometrical description of the flow of matter, irrespectively of the forces producing the motion. Other sections consider the instantaneous motion of a fluid element wherein the motion is composed of translation of the center of mass of a fluid element. This book discusses as well the relative equilibrium of liquids. The final section deals with the atmospheric air motion caused by several factors. This book is a valuable resource for engineers, scientists, and research workers.

Book Fluid Mechanics of Viscoelasticity

Download or read book Fluid Mechanics of Viscoelasticity written by R.R. Huilgol and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-06-02 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The areas of suspension mechanics, stability and computational rheology have exploded in scope and substance in the last decade. The present book is one of the first of a comprehensive nature to treat these topics in detail. The aim of the authors has been to highlight the major discoveries and to present a number of them in sufficient breadth and depth so that the novice can learn from the examples chosen, and the expert can use them as a reference when necessary. The first two chapters, grouped under the category General Principles, deal with the kinematics of continuous media and the balance laws of mechanics, including the existence of the stress tensor and extensions of the laws of vector analysis to domains bounded by fractal curves or surfaces. The third and fourth chapters, under the heading Constitutive Modelling, present the tools necessary to formulate constitutive equations from the continuum or the microstructural approach. The last three chapters, under the caption Analytical and Numerical Techniques, contain most of the important results in the domain of the fluid mechanics of viscoelasticity, and form the core of the book.A number of topics of interest have not yet been developed to a theoretical level from which applications can be made in a routine manner. However, the authors have included these topics to make the reader aware of the state of affairs so that research into these matters can be carried out. For example, the sections which deal with domains bounded by fractal curves or surfaces show that the existence of a stress tensor in such regions is still open to question. Similarly, the constitutive modelling of suspensions, especially at high volume concentrations, with the corresponding particle migration from high to low shear regions is still very sketchy.

Book Physics of Continuous Matter Second Edition

Download or read book Physics of Continuous Matter Second Edition written by B. Lautrup and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-03-22 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physics of Continuous Matter: Exotic and Everyday Phenomena in the Macroscopic World, Second Edition provides an introduction to the basic ideas of continuum physics and their application to a wealth of macroscopic phenomena. The text focuses on the many approximate methods that offer insight into the rich physics hidden in fundamental continuum mechanics equations. Like its acclaimed predecessor, this second edition introduces mathematical tools on a "need-to-know" basis. New to the Second Edition This edition includes three new chapters on elasticity of slender rods, energy, and entropy. It also offers more margin drawings and photographs and improved images of simulations. Along with reorganizing much of the material, the author has revised many of the physics arguments and mathematical presentations to improve clarity and consistency. The collection of problems at the end of each chapter has been expanded as well. These problems further develop the physical and mathematical concepts presented. With worked examples throughout, this book clearly illustrates both qualitative and quantitative physics reasoning. It emphasizes the importance in understanding the physical principles behind equations and the conditions underlying approximations. A companion website provides a host of ancillary materials, including software programs, color figures, and additional problems.

Book Lectures on Topological Fluid Mechanics

Download or read book Lectures on Topological Fluid Mechanics written by Mitchell A. Berger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-05-28 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Helmholtz's seminal paper on vortex motion (1858) marks the beginning of what is now called topological fluid mechanics. After 150 years of work, the field has grown considerably. In the last several decades unexpected developments have given topological fluid mechanics new impetus, benefiting from the impressive progress in knot theory and geometric topology on the one hand, and in mathematical and computational fluid dynamics on the other. This volume contains a wide-ranging collection of up-to-date, valuable research papers written by some of the most eminent experts in the field. Topics range from fundamental aspects of mathematical fluid mechanics, including topological vortex dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics, integrability issues, Hamiltonian structures and singularity formation, to DNA tangles and knotted DNAs in sedimentation. A substantial introductory chapter on knots and links, covering elements of modern braid theory and knot polynomials, as well as more advanced topics in knot classification, provides an invaluable addition to this material.

Book Fluid Mechanics

Download or read book Fluid Mechanics written by L D Landau and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid Mechanics, Second Edition deals with fluid mechanics, that is, the theory of the motion of liquids and gases. Topics covered range from ideal fluids and viscous fluids to turbulence, boundary layers, thermal conduction, and diffusion. Surface phenomena, sound, and shock waves are also discussed, along with gas flow, combustion, superfluids, and relativistic fluid dynamics. This book is comprised of 16 chapters and begins with an overview of the fundamental equations of fluid dynamics, including Euler's equation and Bernoulli's equation. The reader is then introduced to the equations of motion of a viscous fluid; energy dissipation in an incompressible fluid; damping of gravity waves; and the mechanism whereby turbulence occurs. The following chapters explore the laminar boundary layer; thermal conduction in fluids; dynamics of diffusion of a mixture of fluids; and the phenomena that occur near the surface separating two continuous media. The energy and momentum of sound waves; the direction of variation of quantities in a shock wave; one- and two-dimensional gas flow; and the intersection of surfaces of discontinuity are also also considered. This monograph will be of interest to theoretical physicists.

Book Photon Correlation Techniques in Fluid Mechanics

Download or read book Photon Correlation Techniques in Fluid Mechanics written by E.O. Schulz-Dubois and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photon correlation is a kind of spectroscopy designed to identify optical frequency shifts and line-broadening effects in the range of many MHz down to a few Hz. The optical intensity is measured in terms of single photon detection events which result in current pulses at the output of photomulti plier tubes. This signal is processed in real time in a special-purpose paral lel processor known as a correlator. The resulting photon correlation func tion, a function in the time domain, contains the desired spectral informa tion, which may be extracted by a suitable algorithm. Due to the non-intrusive nature and the sound theoretical basis of photon correlation, the phenomena under study are not disturbed, and the parameters in question can be precisely evaluated. For these reasons photon correlation has become a valuable and in many instances indispensable technique in two distinct fields. One of these is velocimetry in fluid flow. This includes hydro- and aerodynamic processes in liquids, gases, or flames where the velo city field may be stationary, time periodic, or turbulent, and may range from micrometers per second for motion inside biological cells to one kilometer per second for supersonic flow. The other major field is stochastic particle propagation due to Brownian motion.
