Download or read book Greenfield s Neuropathology Eighth Edition 2 Volume Set written by Seth Love and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-02-29 with total page 2224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Greenfield's Neuropathology, the worlds leading neuropathology reference, provides an authoritative, comprehensive account of the pathological findings in neurological disease, their biological basis and their clinical manifestations. This account is underpinned throughout by a clear description of the molecular and cellular processes and reactions that are relevant to the development, and normal and abnormal functioning of, the nervous system. While this scientific content is of paramount importance, however, care has been taken to ensure that the information is presented in a way that is accessible to readers working within a range of disciplines in the clinical neurosciences, and that also places the neuropathological findings within the context of a broader diagnostic process. The new eighth edition incorporates much new information, new illustrations and many new authors, while retaining the depth, breadth and quality of content so praised in previous editions. Each chapter opens with an introductory section designed to offer an integrated approach to diagnosis, taking account of clinical manifestations, neuroradiological and laboratory findings as well as the neuropathological and molecular genetic features of the diseases being considered. Strong emphasis has been placed on facilitating the retrieval of neuropathological information by non-neuropathologists grapping with differential diagnoses or seeking information on broad categories of neurological disease, and boxes and tables are used to present important symptoms and signs, patterns of disease and other features for ease of reference. High quality line and photographic illustrations, the majority in full colour, are all available on a companion CD, to complete the offering.

This encyclopedic work describes the recent progress in neuropathology that has been influenced and Pnhanced by new techniques, such as the accurate identification and localization of components of the nervous system achieved by immunohistochemistry. The revolutionary improvements that have taken place in the understanding of neurotransmitters, brain damage and nutritional and toxic disorders are all reflected in this revised edition along with important developments in molecular genetics. The effect of AIDS and other immunological disorders on the nervous system is also covered. Thoroughly updated and extensively illustrated, Greenfield's Neuropathology remains a classic reference work.

Book Neuropathology and Basic Neuroscience

Download or read book Neuropathology and Basic Neuroscience written by Roger A. Brumback and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States Congress designated the 1990's as the "Decade of the Brain" in recognition of the importance of neuroscience to the health and well-being of Americans. It has been suggested that as many as 20% of all patients seeking medical treatment have neurologic problems, either as the presenting complaint or as an associated condition complicating the primary illness. To this end, it is important that physicians understand basic neuroscience principles and nervous system diseases. Of course, this text is not encyclopedic but instead is an outline of the knowledge required of all medical students. Interested students can consult numerous texts that provide comprehensive coverage of the field, including Greenfield's Neuropathology and the exhaustive 60 + volume Handbook of Clinical Neurology. The information selected for inclusion in this volume of the Oklahoma Notes series remains true to the goal of the whole series-incorporating only that material vital in both the general clinical practice of medicine and to answer questions on the all-important United States Medical Licensing Examination. Roger A. Brumback Richard W. Leech Acknowledgments This text would not have been possible without a great deal of help and support from a number of individuals. We want to thank all those who assisted in our education in neuroscience and neuropathology including: William M. Landau and Philip R. Dodge of the Washington University School of Medicine, Lowell W. Lapham of the University of Rochester Medical Center, and Ellsworth C.

Book Textbook of Neuropathology

Download or read book Textbook of Neuropathology written by Arthur Weil and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Textbook of Neuropathology, Second Edition covers some of the significant advances in understanding the theoretical and experimental aspects of neuropathology. Neuropathology is the study of the nervous tissue in disease and the determination of deviations of its structures from the normal. This edition is composed of 13 chapters, and begins with the description of the chemical changes occurring in the cell through autolysis and fixation. The subsequent chapters are devoted to studies on better understanding of the vitamin deficiencies, the discovery of the sulfonamides and their contribution to the therapy of meningitis, and the different forms of shock treatment applied to selected cases of neurosis and psychosis. The remaining chapters explore the contribution of neuropathological investigation in various medical conditions, including anemic softening, arteriosclerosis, inflammation, infections, intoxications, injuries, degenerative diseases, tumors, and congenital malformations. This book will be of use to neuropathologists and workers and researchers in the allied fields.

As the fourth book in the Cambridge Illustrated Surgical Pathology series it is the most comprehensive text of methods utilized by pathologists to accurately diagnose diseases affecting the brain, meninges, and spinal cord. The book is a richly illustrated guide to surgical neuropathology, including all primary brain tumors as well as others arising near the nervous system that are also within the scope of neurosurgical practice. Numerous neuroimaging examples are provided to underscore the importance of knowing the basics of radiographic studies in accurately diagnosing CNS pathology. A complete spectrum of nonneoplastic neuropathological entities is also illustrated, including infectious, inflammatory, and epilepsy-related neuropathology. Additional chapters address intraoperative consultation and frozen sections, as well as CSF cytopathology.

Download or read book Neuropathology written by Colin L. Berry and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing specialisation in pathology reflects the progressive changes in medical practise. The advent of a specialist with a new interest in a hospital or clinic may present the pathologist with a need to extend his or her knowledge to be able to work closely with the clinical practi tioner in order to provide adequate clinical care. Some sub-specialisations are long established, such a one is neu ropathology. However, an exclusive specialist practise is generally con fined to neurosurgical centres and much neuropathology is of necessity, executed by geneni.l pathologists. The areas covered by this volume are those which are commonly managed by the generalist. Professor Adams' account of how the skull and brain should be examined here will give confidence to many by defining a good technique and the careful description of various kinds of vascular injury lesions resulting from raised intracranial pressure will help to clarify repeated difficulty. More subtle forms of damage are also considered in detail. Professor Weller provides a detailed account of how the central nervous system may be examined in a way which permits all of us to prepare material which will allow adequate investigation of central nervous system disease and the proper examination of peripheral nerves. This chapter will become a "handbook" and will be of interest to those in training and established practitioners. Muscle biopsy is also dealt with; this is an area of investigative concern for many gener alists. The role of that singular neuropathological technique is very clearly emphasized.
