Book Global warming policy in Japan and Britain

Download or read book Global warming policy in Japan and Britain written by Shizuka Oshitani and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to attempt a systematic comparison of Japanese and British climate policy and politics, and is now available in paperback. Focusing on institutional contrasts between Japan and Britain in terms of corporatist or pluralist characteristics of government-industry relations and decision-making and implementation styles, the book examines how and to what extent institutions explain climate policy in Japan and Britain. In doing this, the book explores how climate policy is shaped by the interplay of nationally specific institutional factors and universal constraints on actors, which emanate from characteristics of the global warming problem itself. It also considers how corporatist institutional characteristics may make a difference in attaining sustainable development. Overall this book provides a new set of comparisons of climate policy and new frameworks of analysis, which could be built on in future research on cross-national climate policy analysis.

Book Handbook of Perceptual Dialectology

Download or read book Handbook of Perceptual Dialectology written by Dennis Richard Preston and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1999 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Perceptual Dialectology, Volume 2, expands on the coverage of both regions and methodologies in the investigation of nonlinguists' perceptions of language variety. New areas studied include Canada (anglophone and francophone), Cuba, Hungary, Italy, Korea, and Mali, and most prominent among the new approaches are studies of the salience of specific linguistic features in variety identification and assessment. As in Volume I, the reader will find in these chapters everything from the statistical treatment of the ratings of dialect attributes to studies of the actual discourses of nonlinguists discussing language variety. Dialectologists, sociolinguistics, ethnographers, and applied linguists who work in areas where language variety is a concern will appreciate the findings and methods of these studies, but social scientists of every sort who want to understand the role of language in the cultural lives of ordinary people will also find much of interest here.
