Book Potential Theory in Gravity and Magnetic Applications

Download or read book Potential Theory in Gravity and Magnetic Applications written by Richard J. Blakely and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-09-13 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text bridges the gap between the classic texts on potential theory and modern books on applied geophysics. It opens with an introduction to potential theory, emphasising those aspects particularly important to earth scientists, such as Laplace's equation, Newtonian potential, magnetic and electrostatic fields, and conduction of heat. The theory is then applied to the interpretation of gravity and magnetic anomalies, drawing on examples from modern geophysical literature. Topics explored include regional and global fields, forward modeling, inverse methods, depth-to-source estimation, ideal bodies, analytical continuation, and spectral analysis. The book includes numerous exercises and a variety of computer subroutines written in FORTRAN. Graduate students and researchers in geophysics will find this book essential.

Book excerpt: This book suitable for post graduates in Physics and Astrophysics aims at introducing the theory of general relativity as an important background for doing astrophysics. Starting from a detailed discussion of the various mathematical concepts for doing general relativity, the book introduces the geometric description of gravity. It gives a brief historical perspective to classical mechanics and electrodynamics making an attempt to establish the necessity of special relativity as propounded by Einstein extending to General Relativity. This book is a good starting point for post graduates wanting to pursue the modern topics of Cosmology, High energy astrophysics and related areas.

Book Gravity Interpretation

    Book Details:
  • Author : Wolfgang Jacoby
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2009-02-01
  • ISBN : 3540853294
  • Pages : 413 pages

Download or read book Gravity Interpretation written by Wolfgang Jacoby and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-01 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gravity interpretation involves inversion of data into models, but it is more. Gravity interpretation is used in a “holistic” sense going beyond “inversion”. Inversion is like optimization within certain a priori assumptions, i.e., all anticipated models lie in a limited domain of the a priori errors. No source should exist outside the anticipated model volume, but that is never literally true. Interpretation goes beyond by taking “outside” possibilities into account in the widest sense. Any neglected possibility carries the danger of seriously affecting the interpretation. Gravity interpretation pertains to wider questions such as the shape of the Earth, the nature of the continental and oceanic crust, isostasy, forces and stresses, geol- ical structure, nding useful resources, climate change, etc. Interpretation is often used synonymously with modelling and inversion of observations toward models. Interpretation places the inversion results into the wider geological or economic context and into the framework of science and humanity. Models play a central role in science. They are images of phenomena of the physical world, for example, scale images or metaphors, enabling the human mind to describe observations and re- tionships by abstract mathematical means. Models served orientation and survival in a complex, partly invisible physical and social environment.

Book The Gravitational Constant Generalized Gravitational Theories and Experiments

Download or read book The Gravitational Constant Generalized Gravitational Theories and Experiments written by V. de Sabbata and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-03-31 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An up-to-date description of progress and current problems with the gravitational constant, both in terms of generalized gravitational theories and experiments either in the laboratory, using Casimir force measurements, or in space at solar system distances and in cosmological observations. Contributions cover different aspects of the state and prediction of unified theories of the physical interactions including gravitation as a cardinal link, the role of experimental gravitation and observational cosmology in discriminating between them, the problem of the precise measurement and stability of fundamental physical constants in space and time, and the gravitational constant in particular. Recent advances discussed include unified and scalar-tensor theories, theories in diverse dimensions and their observational windows, gravitational experiments in space, rotational and torsional effects in gravity, basic problems in cosmology, early universe as an arena for testing unified models, and big bang nucleosynthesis.

Book NEW THEORY OF PLANETARY MOTION AND NEW FORMULA OF UNIVERSAL GRAVITATION

Download or read book NEW THEORY OF PLANETARY MOTION AND NEW FORMULA OF UNIVERSAL GRAVITATION written by WANG JIANHUA and published by American Academic Press. This book was released on 2022-09-12 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the solar system is regarded as a moving mass point system, then both the planet m and the sun M move around the solar system mass center O. According to the motion law of the mass point system and the centripetal force formula of the curve, it can be determined through theoretical analysis and mathematical derivation: (1) Kepler's law of planetary motion contradicts the motion rules of mass point systems. (2) The universal gravitational force F between planet m and sun M. K is the new gravitational constant. The force F' on the object m in the inertial frame S'. In the formula, V' is the velocity of the object m in the inertial frame S', and u is the velocity of the inertial frame S' in the cosmic space reference frame. In addition, the author designed three new optical experiments based on the light interference theory to verify whether the principle of constant speed of light conforms to objective facts. Experiment 1. Using the new front and rear hole laser interferometer for verification; Experiment 2. Verification of using long and short optical path Michelson interferometers; Experiment 3. Verification of using a double-hole interferometer.

Book The True Origin of the Gravitational Dynamics

Download or read book The True Origin of the Gravitational Dynamics written by Jacob Schaf and published by Scientific Research Publishing, Inc. USA. This book was released on 2017-08-23 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is mainly motivated by two recent crucial scientific achievements: 1) The GPS clocks, moving with earth round the sun, do not show the gravita-tional slowing by the solar field, contradicting a fundamental prediction of General Relativity (GR) and 2) The Higgs theory discloses the origin of the inertial mass of the elementary particles and hence also is responsible for the gravitational fields, because mass generates the gravitational fields. Many clear-cut experimental observations, which are in conflict with the current theories, are actually being ignored and maintained in standby by the establishment to preserve accepted theories. This is not a scientific attitude. This is religion. The only scientifically sane attitude is acknowledging the reliable experimental observations, abandoning the obsolete theories that cannot account for them and searching for a more adequate theory. This exactly is what the present work challenges to do and the results are encouraging.
