Book Grain engineering of high energy density BaTiO3 thick films integrated on Si

Download or read book Grain engineering of high energy density BaTiO3 thick films integrated on Si written by Jun Ouyang and published by OAE Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2023-06-13 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ferroelectric (FE) ceramics with a large relative dielectric permittivity and a high dielectric strength have the potential to store or supply electricity of very high energy and power densities, which is desirable in many modern electronic and electrical systems. For a given FE material, such as the commonly-used BaTiO3, a close interplay between defect chemistry, misfit strain, and grain characteristics must be carefully manipulated for engineering its film capacitors. In this work, the effects of grain orientation and morphology on the energy storage properties of BaTiO3 thick films were systematically investigated. These films were all deposited on Si at 500 °C in an oxygen-rich atmosphere, and their thicknesses varied between ~500 nm and ~2.6 μm. While a columnar nanograined BaTiO3 film with a (001) texture showed a higher recyclable energy density Wrec (81.0 J/cm3vs. 57.1 J/[email protected] MV/cm, ~40% increase) than that of a randomly-oriented BaTiO3 film of about the same thickness (~500 nm), the latter showed an improved energy density at a reduced electric field with an increasing film thickness. Specifically, for the 1.3 μm and 2.6 μm thick polycrystalline films, their energy storage densities Wrec reached 46.6 J/cm3 and 48.8 J/cm3 at an applied electric field of 2.31 MV/cm (300 V on 1.3 μm film) and 1.77 MV/cm (460 V on 2.6 μm film), respectively. This ramp-up in energy density can be attributed to increased polarizability with a growing grain size in thicker polycrystalline films and is desirable in high pulse power applications.

Book Nanostructures in Ferroelectric Films for Energy Applications

Download or read book Nanostructures in Ferroelectric Films for Energy Applications written by Jun Ouyang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2019-06-07 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanostructures in Ferroelectric Films for Energy Applications: Grains, Domains, Interfaces and Engineering Methods presents methods of engineering nanostructures in ferroelectric films to improve their performance in energy harvesting and conversion and storage. Ferroelectric films, which have broad applications, including the emerging energy technology, usually consist of nanoscale inhomogeneities. For polycrystalline films, the size and distribution of nano-grains determines the macroscopic properties, especially the field-induced polarization response. For epitaxial films, the energy of internal long-range electric and elastic fields during their growth are minimized by formation of self-assembled nano-domains. This book is an accessible reference for both instructors in academia and R&D professionals.

Book Chemical Solution Deposition of Functional Oxide Thin Films

Download or read book Chemical Solution Deposition of Functional Oxide Thin Films written by Theodor Schneller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-24 with total page 801 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first text to cover all aspects of solution processed functional oxide thin-films. Chemical Solution Deposition (CSD) comprises all solution based thin- film deposition techniques, which involve chemical reactions of precursors during the formation of the oxide films, i. e. sol-gel type routes, metallo-organic decomposition routes, hybrid routes, etc. While the development of sol-gel type processes for optical coatings on glass by silicon dioxide and titanium dioxide dates from the mid-20th century, the first CSD derived electronic oxide thin films, such as lead zirconate titanate, were prepared in the 1980’s. Since then CSD has emerged as a highly flexible and cost-effective technique for the fabrication of a very wide variety of functional oxide thin films. Application areas include, for example, integrated dielectric capacitors, ferroelectric random access memories, pyroelectric infrared detectors, piezoelectric micro-electromechanical systems, antireflective coatings, optical filters, conducting-, transparent conducting-, and superconducting layers, luminescent coatings, gas sensors, thin film solid-oxide fuel cells, and photoelectrocatalytic solar cells. In the appendix detailed “cooking recipes” for selected material systems are offered.

Book Handbook of Laser Micro and Nano Engineering

Download or read book Handbook of Laser Micro and Nano Engineering written by KOJI SUGIOKA. and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides a comprehensive review of the entire field of laser micro and nano processing, including not only a detailed introduction to individual laser processing techniques but also the fundamentals of laser-matter interaction and lasers, optics, equipment, diagnostics, as well as monitoring and measurement techniques for laser processing. Consisting of 11 sections, each composed of 4 to 6 chapters written by leading experts in the relevant field. Each main part of the handbook is supervised by its own part editor(s) so that high-quality content as well as completeness are assured. The book provides essential scientific and technical information to researchers and engineers already working in the field as well as students and young scientists planning to work in the area in the future. Lasers found application in materials processing practically since their invention in 1960, and are currently used widely in manufacturing. The main driving force behind this fact is that the lasers can provide unique solutions in material processing with high quality, high efficiency, high flexibility, high resolution, versatility and low environmental load. Macro-processing based on thermal process using infrared lasers such as CO2 lasers has been the mainstream in the early stages, while research and development of micro- and nano-processing are becoming increasingly more active as short wavelength and/or short pulse width lasers have been developed. In particular, recent advances in ultrafast lasers have opened up a new avenue to laser material processing due to the capabilities of ultrahigh precision micro- and nanofabrication of diverse materials. This handbook is the first book covering the basics, the state-of-the-art and important applications of the dynamic and rapidly expanding discipline of laser micro- and nanoengineering. This comprehensive source makes readers familiar with a broad spectrum of approaches to solve all relevant problems in science and technology. This handbook is the ultimate desk reference for all people working in the field.
