Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the key technologies needed to understand and develop the mechanical and electrical properties of ceramics is the field of grain boundary engineering. This book covers new developments in this important field and addresses topics from grain boundary phenomena to grain boundary quantum structures, including the development of new techniques such as multifunctional electronmicroscopes, various kinds of spectroscopic analysis, and first principles calculations. Proceedings of the Japan Fine Ceramics Center Workshop, March 15-17, 2000, in Nagoya, Japan; Ceramic Transactions, Volume 118.

Book Nanoinformatics

Download or read book Nanoinformatics written by Isao Tanaka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-15 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book brings out the state of the art on how informatics-based tools are used and expected to be used in nanomaterials research. There has been great progress in the area in which “big-data” generated by experiments or computations are fully utilized to accelerate discovery of new materials, key factors, and design rules. Data-intensive approaches play indispensable roles in advanced materials characterization. "Materials informatics" is the central paradigm in the new trend. "Nanoinformatics" is its essential subset, which focuses on nanostructures of materials such as surfaces, interfaces, dopants, and point defects, playing a critical role in determining materials properties. There have been significant advances in experimental and computational techniques to characterize individual atoms in nanostructures and to gain quantitative information. The collaboration of researchers in materials science and information science is growing actively and is creating a new trend in materials science and engineering.

Book Grain Boundary Engineering in Nonoxide Ceramics

Download or read book Grain Boundary Engineering in Nonoxide Ceramics written by R. Nathan Katz and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The deliberate selection and control of composition, structure, and processes occurring in the grain boundary, both during and after fabrication, with the aim of specific property modification may properly be defined as grain boundary engineering. We will review various strategies for doing grain boundary engineering and give examples of the use of these strategies in the development of hot-pressed silicon nitride. Research needs for further development of grain boundary engineering (GBE) in nonoxide systems are discussed.

Book Grain Boundary Engineering of Electronic Ceramics

Download or read book Grain Boundary Engineering of Electronic Ceramics written by European Cooperation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research (Organization). COST 525 (Project) and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: COST is a European programme promoting co-operation in science and technology. Today there are over 200 active COST networks (or so-called Actions) operating in 32 countries. Of these Actions, 13 are in the materials sector. This book contains the proceedings of COST 525: 'Advanced Electroceramics - Grain Boundary Engineering', the main objective of which is to understand the role played by grain boundaries in controlling the manufacture, microstructure and properties of electronic ceramics. The increase in knowledge should lead to the development of materials with enhanced properties, improved stability, reduced component costs, and the possibility of new opportunities for existing and developing ceramics.
